I had a terrible experience. Verification couldn't verify my phone number that's been my number for 20+ years. Site continually had errors. Had to do a video verification after waiting in a queue > 1 hour.

The authentication process starting from the government site to the id.me process appears to work. The problems seem to be with the hand-off from the id.me site back to the originating government site would not happen. There was a constant loop from from me clearing the cache, closing the browser, back to the dot gov site, to the 2AF verification, back through the Id.me verification process back to originating government site in an unending loop. After approximately 2 and a half hours of that nonsense, I quit!
My spouse recently passed away unexpectedly and I am being required to deal with the VA online. ID.me was a source of continual aggravation for my husband when he was alive. Now that I'm having to deal with ID.me, I admire him even more for his patience and perseverance. The service is a complicated compilation of lousy options and poorly performing software that requires you to repeatedly perform tasks that take well over the stated 5-10 minutes for completion. The elderly veterans I know would undoubtedly have serious problems with this process. Yet another way the VA makes accessing benefits and information more trouble than it's worth for many, I'm sure.
