There are so many ways that software tries to validate your identity with information that you provide in advance and then challenges you later. It's pretty good unless someone else knows the answers to your challenges. This system uses your actual photo-ID and compares the photo to a live phot of your face.
As long as you know all about yourself to be able to login securely this site will help look up crucial info. I found not only was it super secure but it was quick to do everything

I needed security to access my account. It's now locked.
The directions were very simple and clear I would give a five star if I didn't run into a couple small hiccups along the way otherwise it was a very good process and experience
I was directed to the incorrect Authentication App, and my USB Authentication Key would be accepted. What should have been a 2-minute task became a 20-minute ordeal. There was no functioning link to the Authentication App at the site and no instructions about obtaining the Authentication App. This forced me to look for the Authentication App at the Google Play Store, which directed me to a look-a-like Authentication App that was, in fact, not the ID.Me Authentication App. This is such a critical step in the process, and getting it wrong could have exposed my device to an App with nefarious intentions. Additionally, a more traditional Authentication App like that offered by Microsoft would mean I don't need to have five different Authentication apps on my device.
At the end of the verification process it says phone number not recognized. Had to try a bunch of old numbers before hitting on the right one. Awful!

Chats with a device can not always solve an important issue. At times you need to speak to an actual human who has a brain and can comprehend what the real issue that is being brought forth is and how to solve it. Instead with chat you get a list to choose from and the issue is not always listed. I tried to call and was on for over an hour and never reached anyone or I get a message that no more phone calls are being accepted. How do I get anything accomplished or get questions answered or sign up for social security?.

Too lengthy, complicated, switching between two devices and totally unnecessary to require a full social security number! Horribly frustrating!
Each year it has gotten worse and prior year verification and registration is just out the window.
