Getting messages constantly about messed up username and passwords. I can't get into the IRS federal tax prep place or Md comptroller. I am now gong to do my taxes on paper.now it won't let me submit my review. Only takes good reviews? I can't get into turbo tax either
ID.me requires you to upload a legal ID (passport, driver's license, whatever) and then it does a crude line-tracing of your face and tries to match it with the ID. Needless to say, if you don't look like your ID photo (think of your worst driver's license photo! Ten years afterward!) this process is slow and laborious.
I found this prone to error in matching the phone picture and the ID picture.

I scanned my drivers license in order to be verified for a registered account with a state agency and the information returned after scanning my ID and having my face scanned using my iPhone's camera produced someone with my name and birthdate but a completely different address in a different state halfway across the country. While I had the opportunity to change the information, I was petrified that someone had stolen my identity and had access to my information. There was nothing received from ID.me that indicated they registered this dissonance or would give me comfort about why this could happen. Instead I got auto-responder emails. I do keep security freezes on each of the credit bureaus and monitor bank and other financial account information daily so feel confident I would catch anything suspicious from that end, but there are so many other avenues thieves use (ie social media, email phishing, phone scams) with other people's identities that could create issues for individuals. It would be helpful if ID.me could validate their processes and address inconsistencies like what I encountered to assure folks that their PII is safe and secure.
