An extremely complicated, confusing process to access my IRS account. Took over 4 hours, granted some mistakes were mine, just to verify that the IRS did, in fact, send out an outdated and unnecessary notice. This smacks of a bureaucracy creating more confounding and unnecessary procedures based, primarily, on having too many confounding procedures in the first place. As far as I can tell, the IRS has made ID.me a mandatory step before I can look at my IRS account.
