ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in its identity verification service, which many users found secure and efficient, particularly praising the helpfulness of customer service during video calls. However, significant concerns were raised regarding the complexity of the verification process, which some customers found frustrating and time-consuming, particularly older users or those with unique identification issues. Additionally, delays and technical difficulties, including issues with document acceptance and login credentials, have led to dissatisfaction among several users. Overall, while the service is valued for its security, improvements in user experience and support are essential.

I was "forced" by the VA to repeat this process after 4 years. I wasted 3+ hours fooling with this. I have 4 govt. Issued IDs plus a passport. You would think "EASY PEASY". NO chance first my error, pass port expired a few months ago, and i did not catch it. They caught it and asked for one that was good, easy enough, NO WAY... I had put my DL in as number 2... so i put in another id to replace the expired passport. Easy huh, NO! Did not like that i had done that? Contacted support, followed his directions. NO way!back to cust support again. They managed to convince me that the people at the other end were incapable of reading, or just jerks, not sure which? Repeated the cycle, doing just what he said they needed, i don't think he was talking to the people doing the work?i threatened to quit and go raise H with the VA.About on the 5 or 6th try i managed to out guess what the instructions were saying ignoring the mutually exclusive statement. The statements on the instructions will tell you they want a state id that is issued by DMV, that is not a driver lisc? I guessed i would take 2 out of 3 requirements and see if that was good for them. Good guess. Finally worked 5 days later. I don't think cust survice talks with the folks who are on the other end of the process.?

I have spent two stressful days trying to complete enrollment in aid.me, which is required to access my tax account at irs.gov. After countless attempts to get it to verify my phone, and three requests (unanswered) to the help desk, I gave up. The next day my phone blows up with all the verify codes that should have been sent previously. I finally finished the verification process, but when I try to log in to irs.gov using Id.me, I only get an error code. Maybe the site only works once a day.
I found it worked once. The next time I was forced to use it, it didn't work and I was told (by a computer system) my account was suspended. I could not receive any additional information about why. It took weeks for my account to be fixed. There was no communication before the notice that it was fixed. Then, it worked. I have no confidence that it will work next time.
This page wants everything from you to access your own data.
Now they want 100 words from me to proceed.
Duck duck goose. Duck Duck goose. Duck Duck goose, Duck Duck trump. Do not vote for trump. Do not vote for trump. Vote blue. Vote blue.
Thievery.
They sell your information.
Auto-upload of documents failed may times. Took many hours. Gave up until next day. When I finally got lucky and got it to work.
Nothing worked, I needed to redo the process multiple times. Always got an error message even the time it eventually worked.
I'd be embarrassed to be responsible for this government site. Couldn't verify a land line phone number because it was trying to send a code to a landline. Not smart!
ID me is a secure trusted data site web page to help you get in and out of your unemployment compensation portal web page with the information to be able to log in and out the government site.
16 years working for the government and ID.me managed to win for being the worst system. Impossible to resolve any issues. There is no contact number, no email support, and therefore impossible to resolve issues outside of the common concerns addressed by Roy the moronic AI bot. Do not create an account or use if other options exist (CAC, DS Login, etc.). I can only imagine how helpless this system makes aging vets feel as they try to use it to access critical resources. Vets deserve better. Look up their reviews on the BBB.
Be prepared, they require you to send them a biometric video selfie. This is an extreme invasion of personal privacy! I don't really trust what they do with your selfie after you are required to send it to them.
This site is asking for tons of personal info including biometric. They keep it for 3 years and maybe they delete it, maybe they don't. One day they will get hacked (like all companies have been lately), and all your bio data will be out there. But don't worry, you will get $20 from the settlement...
Registering with them to access my VA account was a bad experience. They didn't even have my first name correct in their system, it was a combination of my first and middle name. After that, I couldn't even use secure messaging like I previously did with my other log-in credentials, this messaging was why I was logging in. If you're going to use them, think twice.
Registering with "ID.me" for IRS account access is exclusive and does not permit using
" Login.gov" signon data. Social security website enables a choice.
See statement from SS site below. I have both now & not sure if either will work when I attempt to log in. This experience casts doubt on how secure my identity is protected.
"ID.me is a single sign-on provider that meets the U.S. government's online identity proofing and authentication requirements. Please consider using ID.me if you live outside the United States.
Please note that you do NOT need to create a new ID.me credential specifically for Social Security purposes. You can use one ID.me account to access both government and business services."
Why do we as citizens have to give our most basic information, including biometric identification, to sites like this? Terrible idea from start to finish
During video call i felt at ease.the agent guided me through the process.
Thank you.
