ID.me was very thorough in their vetting of the documents I submitted, ensuring that I uploaded the correct information and guiding me the entire process.
It's only happened a few times in my life, that I've come across a web-based, technology or service, that impacted me profoundly. One that actually expands your view of technologies possibilities, that makes the alternatives now seem unacceptable, and leaves you a little angry that it hadn't been invented until now.
This one of those.
You'd be stupid not to use it. Hassle and headache vs simple and convenient. The choice is yours.
After almost an hour trying to set up login.gov and failing because it could not verify the phone number that I have had for more than 20 years I tried ID.me. It took about 5 minutes to complete the verification process.
In both cases it was trial and error and then repeat - multiple times before eventual completion. No feedback was given for why attempts failed. No examples of successful captures were provided as ways to set expectations. It appeared to involve sophisticated technology tools that most people have never used before. How many people on Social Security have taken document pictures with their phones before? How many of these same people have taken precision selfie videos of extremely closeup shots of their faces? This was poorly planned for the audience that was being asked to perform with precision.

I filled out all the forms and signed in to ID.ME and got my phone code and input it and then pushed the submit button and, BOOM!, I got a window that said it couldn't be processed. I tried it twice on differend days and got the same non-response. AND there was no error code or error message or link to a freaking human.
No different than ending up on this site, you try to get some legitimate feedback and be done with your rant, then you have the opportunity to holler even more on their review site, all I can say is I rest my case IDME, guilty as charged!

The help received to allow access of my information on government sites is helpful. The system works effectively with getting access of my personal information and access to other governmental agencies. My lack in confidence providing personal identifiable information over the internet due to security breaches by government personnel. It happens. I feel forced to participate. If not then I'm cut off.

In 2026 it is ridiculous to have to upload documents and take videos to log into an account. Think of all the institutions, with far more at stake (banks, brokerages, health systems, etc.) who make do with simple 2-factor auth.
After spending hours to get into my account, I just gave up. I tried reseting password, but two step verification fail. I tried contacting by phone, never reaching a human; instead just placed in the automatic hell of the cyclical message system.
I logged I to Healthevet fir a moment and then found out no I hadn't. I then had to jump through a major Identification hoop. At least it accepted my D/L as proof through imaging interface. Before that, my D/L failed on Login.Gov, so I tried ID.me and by magic it worked, so after watching the screens bounce back and firth, seemingly confused about the process, it finally booted Healthevet again and I was let in.
This to me is a major waste of Taxpayer funds, when everyone else sends a code
to our phones. Simple and clean.
This when we have a 36 Trillion dollar debt hanging around our neck.
Completing the registration was initially difficult; once I stumbled on to how or where to initiate the process, it was quite simple.
