I comprehend that with so much fraud happening, it's necessary for the government to take all these extra measures for trying to combat that. In the other hand, I feel like the technology related to biometrics should be advanced enough these days to automate the process of verifying someones identity if they take a selfie and provide two pieces of ID to the site though.
In my case, my attempt to verify my identity on my own using ID.me did not work and I had to wait for a service rep for about an hour, on top of approximately 30 minutes I spent creating an account on USPTOs website, signing up for ID.me and getting my documents together.
