Today I sat up an account on IRS.gov and the identity proofing they require. One item needed was front and back photos of my driver's license. They send links to take and upload the photos but it was a major hassle to take one close enough, in focus, and without glare or shadows. Thankfully the app did not time out and I was able to complete the registration and identity proofing. I will need this for making estimated tax payments (social security, pensions, etc.) now I am retired.

I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast, so I would always fail at typical credit bureau history oriented Q&A authentications.
Not so with ID.me, The site was quick, secure and accurate.
I was a little concerned about sharing biometric data with the agency USING ID.me - I think ID.me and the agency need to do a better job of BOLDLY positioning the fact that the agency requesting authentication never gets my biometric data.
Once past this minor "fear of flying" before proceeding, everything was smooth for me as a user. I can only assume that the experience for the agency which hired ID.me enjoys a similar experience with API security and data exchange - I was passed back to the agency almost instantly.

ID.me has blocked my access to my VA information again. Id.me website intervened upon login, claiming it would send a 6 digit code to my email address (it could take 10 minutes). Checked spam, no such email. Clicked resend button, still no email from them. I contacted support. Support has not helped. Nearly 24 hours later, they replied with a copy and paste response having nothing to do with the issue (the failure to send the email). This is an ongoing (since 2016) problem with ID.me. It has been reported to Senator Baldwin's office. ID.me does not have a phone number nor mail address to reach out to a quality/compliance department. ID.me does whatever they want to, including cutting you off from using your verified, Real ID. They refuse to respect your government issued ID. ID.me has messaged me multiple times trying to force me to change my review. Sorry ID.me, the truth will not covered. ID.me is run by a veteran which profits from screwing them and everyone else over.
