I could show ID and have my identity confirmed by an online IRS representative. Worked through Zoom. The process was quick and easy once my ID documents were uploaded.

Based on the instructions I received to enroll in ID.me to access the IRS.gov website, the process sounded difficult, time-consuming, and, not least, stressful. However, once I had gathered and submitted the ID documents required, which everyone should have on hand anyway, I was connected via teleconference with the ID.me representative, who guided me through the process, which turned out to be simple, straightforward, and quick to complete.
