HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Never again! Cost me $350 to sign up, I prepaid $400 for leads. The first 2 weeks I would receive leads and when I contacted them its like they thought I was crazy. They wasnt quite sure why I contacted them. Then the other leads they sent, they had already sent to like 4 other contractors. The prices that the other contractors have them were so ridiculously low, there is no way they could have done the job correctly. I called home adviser to let them know I was very unhappy and asked if they would refund some of my money and they wouldnt do it. They wont cancel my contract either.

Hi Joe, We're sorry to hear your concerns, you are more than welcome to cancel at any point. A homeowner has to submit a service request in order for a lead to be sent to you and it will go to a maximum of 4 pros total while many go to fewer. I have used Home advisor. Lucked out with a good contractor. I didnt check google and other reviews first. I have many contractor/ service company owners that spend over 7k a year with Home advisor. Remember every name or company HA gives you, they charge them and charge them. Its free to the consumer but it hurts the contractors. They get leads but not enough to cover the expense of using HA. Its too bad because it could be a great platform to help good contractors or new businesses acquire a following.

Stay Away!
November 20, 2017

This has been one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Very misleading!
They promise the world, but they are only interested is in stealing from contractors. I was promised leads for commercial use, never received a single one. Miami Florida has about 6 million people no excuse!

What a scam.
November 20, 2017

I signed up with home advisor in October of 2016. Had to pat $262.00 just to sign up. Over a one year period, I received 2 leads. Then this year they automatically renewed for the same fee. They said they emailed me a reminder. That was a lie. Then I got charged $27.00 for a lead that was over an hour from me. Tried to dispute the charges with no avail. I would highly suggest to stay away from these people.

They lie constantly, told me I would be going up against one other contractor, another lady told me no that wasn't right that it would be three others contractors. Hard to get through on the phone. Hard to get them to finish your website. The lady that was supposed to be my handler, never heard from her again. I went ahead and kept my website, because I had already paid for it. You cannot pause your leads for the full year. You have to call back every three months. Every time I deal with these people I get extremely angry. If I had to rate these people it would be minus 5 stars. The only benefit that I have experienced with these people is the website. Even if you have your leads paused you will get call s from people if you have good reviews. Oh and also I've read several other reviews were they might send as many as twelve contractors to one lead, and you pay for the lead either way, if you get the job, or not.

I used their service twice. Both companies were terrible companies which provided very bad service and did business in dishonest fashion(agreed to provide service at a quote price then intentionally just did half of the work, then lied about the service content and refused to provide the missing part). I had provided feedback to these two companies and after one year these reviews are just in "pending review" state.
This site is a con site which uses their fake review to attract customers into those con companies, which provide terrible and dishonest service, a scam assembly line.

This Company don't care if Homeowners get a top quality Contractor or if Contractors get quality leads, all they care is if they make their money, most of this sale people that work with HomeAdvisor have no clue about construction or any trade, they get train to lie and sale, at first the promise contractors lots of things, like don't worry if you get a bad lead will refund your money back no questions ask. Thats not the case... they advertised homeowners that this services is FREE,, but what they don't tell homeowners is that contractors pay big money for their information...

This company refuses to take me off the call list - years later. How many estimates would a customer get if they had to pay? I have a successful business of 27 years and lots of marketing experience and I do tree trimming and removal. We own cranes, bucket trucks, dump trucks, chippers, stump grinders, log trucks and cars and pickups plus the parking area which is rented. I employ 7 people and have duplicates of all the afore mentioned equipment. New replacement cost is over $2 million however this stuff is valued at about $700 k. With that being said I'm not showing up in a van or service or pickup truck to do the work but with real and expensive equipment. The notion of a free estimate for the customer is costly for owners and then to pay a service for leads from adwords they buy and 10 guys call the clients for a " free estimate " is insane. If 5 contractors show up how much " free time " does the client get? At least 2.5 man hours if not double. What if the job is small say $300.- and each pays $25.- per lead? Just register and claim your business online, utilize public review sites and all of the free listings including the 3 major search engines. Then buy adwords as needed and done. No need for HA and the links go to you not their site. For what they charge to sign up you can have a website made, hosted and listed and the free listings completed. If you decide to use them get ready to cancel your credit card.

Not Even A Nice Try
October 29, 2017
Updated review

Your kidding Right? I spent many, many, hours and days, over the phone trying to resolve this, as well as 27 documented emails trying to resolve it. All I received in return was threatening emails that I was being sent to collections.

All this and NEVER a lead in our category, just leads Home Advisor kept sending as they desired and kept charging my card. I had to actually shut the card off and have new one issued to stop the fraudulent charges. Then the fun of informing and updating all of the accounts tied to our company account, that we had to close because of Home Advisor.

No, your response was not even a nice try!

CONTRACTORS BEWARE - THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF
October 27, 2017
Previous review

Contractors do yourself a favor - DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER - DO NOT FALL FOR SALES PERSONS FALSE PROMISES. THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM. THEY LISTED ME UNDER A CATAGORY I DO NOT DO AND WHEN I CALLED TO CANCEL THEY KEPT BILLING MY CARD. I HAD TO HAVE A NEW CARD ISSUSED TO STOP IT AND NOW THEY ARE SENDING ME TO COLLECTIONS FOR LEADS WE COULD NEVER RESPOND TO.

MANAGEMENT AT ALL LEVELS ARE TRAINED TO JACK YOU AROUND.

BEWARE! BEWARE! SCAM ARTIST AT WORK...

I started interviewing contractor companies in July for an October start date. The
Person we saw was not honest with project start/finish time line OR quote. The price went up each time he came over. One week before our target start date, I tried to finalize price & contract. He asked me why I was in "panic mode". When he finally submitted our plans to his draftsman, I asked when it would be finished, he said "You'll be the first to know". I began interviewing contractors who replied in 2-3 days with realistic project time line & cost. Maybe others at CH are more professional, but based on THIS experience, we don't recommend Carriage House.

If I could give no stars, I would. I'm a Contractor, and this is the worse company I've ever did business with! First of all, they renewed my annual membership without my approval and took the money directly out of my account creating budgeting problems, so I call and speak to a guy named Rocky that told me once the money has been taken out, you can't get a refund. I disputed with him for a few minutes, then asked him how could he even sleep at night knowing that they are taking Contractors money and nickle and diming people. He said he slept quite well every night. Secondly, they have sent me mostly phony leads which they also charge you a lot of money for, even if the customer doesn't answer the phone or ever call you back. They will not refund you but tell you they can only credit your account with another lead supposedly which is phony in most cases. Take my advise! Stay clear away! A law suit is in the making!

( I hated it it on the walls!) After trial and error and his runs to the paint store I have a color I love! A million thanks for a great job!

They got us business
October 14, 2017

I'm leaving a review because I saw all of the negative reviews on here and thought I'd add my honest, better, review.
We have a paving company and HomeAdvisor got us about 7 jobs this season. The price is higher than I'd like, but if we get the jobs, it pays for itself. This site does get you out there, then you have to take over from there with the customer. Occasionally, we will get a bogus lead - someone looking for a different service, or someone just window shopping and it's a 50/50 chance they will refund your money. I think if they can verify from the shopper, they will refund you.
I didn't like it at first, but 7 months later I'm still their customer, so I'd recommend them.

Fraud
October 9, 2017

Followed up on leads, we have heard all the excuses from the consumers from I didn't even go to home advisor to the job is already completed! There is no reasoning with home advisor in any way. They have every excuse to not give the lead money back. Not only that when people leave a review they claim they have no pending reviews! They have me set up for Refrigeration repair under plumber which is not in any way what we repair. DO NOT LET THEM SCAM YOU TOO. I HAVE MY LEADS PAUSED EVERY 3 MONTHS TO AVOID DEALING WITH THEM
