The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I was called by a boy named John and wasted my time again! He lied about everything just to make his commission.in general, i dont know how company like this are still in business. If we hire this type of service (leads) it's because we are looking for some positive results. I was told for this thief that because I'm in busines for almost 2 decades i did not have to dispute jobs with anyone and bla bla bla. Same situation as many of peoples down below. Disappointment again
Home Advisor is not honest with their explanation of how your leads are distributed and they do not care if you make money or not. You pay for the leads and they send the leads out to up to 4 other contractors. These are supposed to be "ready to purchase" customers and they art not. 9 times out of 10 the number is incorrect. Then you have to go through more steps to get a "lead" credit. Its a SCAM! Stay away!
Hi Brad, We're sorry to hear you've had anything but success with our service. While we are not able to guarantee which part of the purchasing process a potential customer is in, we are able to credit back for leads with incorrect contact info. We are not a scam and more than happy to look into any lead concerns you have. To speak with a rep, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 or send info to [email protected] and a rep will reach out. -HASupport
I am a general contractor with kitchen and bathroom remodels as my primary business. The leads generated by home advisor, which the contractor pays for, are, for the most part, just fishing expeditions by homeowners wanting to know "about what" a project might cost. They have no specifics, direction or budget, making it impossible to bid. The leads are very expensive and are virtually worthless. Contractors... BEWARE!
Hi Steve, We're sorry to hear this, we do our best to provide you with tools and opportunities to help you sell your business. What? They charge us $347.00 up front while they are charging other $288 and $300 sign up cost now they are looking for another $155 and I did not even talk to 1/3 of the leads they sent no one answers the phone or not answers at all. I don't trust this. I have been had... Boy I hope not but it looks like it... Hmm. (NEW) to Home Advisor. I want my money Back.

Very misleading with there prices and how HomeAdvisor actually operates. I signed on thinking that when they send me leads I only pay for them if I receive the job... VERY FAR FROM THAT! I must say your sales reps are smooth talking cons. If you are so confident in the gimmicks you are promoting and so want to see your contractors make it then a reputable company wouldnt have a problem with giving a refund if a customer was mislead. I am sending out this review hoping any other hard working people trying to make a HONEST living and not out to scam people see it and AVOID your business at all cost. But if you are looking to spend out the yang just to join these scam artist and are willing to pay out the noise for ANY LEADS then these people are who you should join... UNFORTUNATELY I ENJOY SLEEPING AT NITE KNOWING I DIDNT SCREW FOLKS OVER JUST TO EARN A BUK!
I had scheduled a repair with PJ Fitzpatrick company for a minor siding repair. They showed up and looked at the work (reinstalling one 3 foot piece of vinyl siding on the side of my house) and the first pass at a bid was $256. When I asked what that entailed since the bid was just one number, I was told a couple of nails and maybe a half hours work. When I said that seems really high, he immediately dropped the bid to $201 or a 20% reduction. Now, he is still making money on that bid but was willing to rape me if I didn't question the cost. This is a really slimy way of doing business and I could not recommend them to anyone.

HomeAdvisor gives bad leads 99% of the time. You call and explain the situation and they will not credit you those bad leads. All they care is to make money off of you. They don't care if the customer fills out their short survey (which automatically creates a lead) and then right away sends that lead to your business. Supervisors from HomeAdvisor have hanged up on me couple of times because they don't care.
Hi Josue, We're sorry to hear you've had anything but success with our service. While we are not able to issue a credit for every situation, there are many we are able to. We absolutely care about your concerns and we do not hang up on our customers. Please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 or send info to [email protected] to speak with a rep. -HASupport
Home Advisor will not address consumer's complaints Consumers are better off using YELP if you need to check on a contractor. BEWARE! THESE ARE BAD PEOPLE. SPREAD THE WORD!
Hi Eliseo, We're sorry to hear this, we take consumer concerns very seriously and are more than happy to address them. Please send your contact info to [email protected] and a rep will reach out to assist you. -HASupport
They owe both the contractors and the customers an explanation. Home Advisor advertises to customers that they can simply input their info and get a free estimate. These customers are just looking to receive a free estimate but are unaware of how the entire process works. So if they don't want phone calls, too bad, they get bombarded with phone calls. And contractors get bad leads that they paid for. Not to mention how expensive each lead is. If they educated their customers, contractors would have a higher ROI and only serious customers would submit their info to receive emails and phone calls.
Hi Danny, We apologize for any confusion, while our service is free, some pros do charge for an estimate. A homeowner is also more than welcome to browse pros and contact them at their leisure via our directory here: http://www.homeadvisor.com/c.html. Lead fees are based on the size and scope of the project and there are multiple situations that a lead is eligible for a credit. We're happy to address any other concerns you have, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 to speak with a rep. -HASupport
I was surprised to see so many people having bad reviews of Home Advisor. My husband's electrical business has had so much success because of their service. It is currently the only place we spend any money marketing and we have more business that we can handle. I am guessing people's experiences are different based on location, we are out of the San Francisco bay area. We have been very thankful for this service.
The only thing we dislike is getting credit for leads. Sometimes leads come through that we don't feel we should pay for, but they do not qualify for credit. They give credit in many situations (which is great), but we do get stuck with some bogus leads. Oh well, I guess you have to take the good with the bad. Overall the service is well worth it and has made starting up our business very successful.
We also just received our first bad review which was not founded on truth. I'm interested to see how Home Advisor will handle that.
Hi Jill, Thank you for sharing your experience, we're glad to hear of your success and are happy we can be a part of your business! I'm paying close to $70 per lead. I've Received 16 Leads = $1120, Only 3 wanted me to come out and take a look. 1 Sold for $500 and that is b/c I had worked with her husband 10 years ago so they knew me. This is a total waste of money.

I want to thank HomeAdvisor for responding to my review and for offering (I will be thrilled when I actually see my credit) to refund my renewal fees, already charged to me. In my previous review, it stated they did not notify me of the renewal and because I had the referrals turned off on our account, I was not aware we would be coming up on time of renewal. I am happy to see you are at least understanding and made good with us.
I stupidly signed up with HomeAdvisor. Immediately got several junk leads, people on the computer just clicking and not really needing anything. Had all leads shut off so we did not receive them or get charged for them anymore. Our account automatically renewed, no email received to notify, so after seeing the charge on my cc account I contacted them. Renewal will be cancelled, but my payment for the year will be kept. HomeAdvisor is a total rip off. DO NOT sign up as a contractor with them.
After providing Homeadvisor with documents and waiting a couple of weeks while they reviewed the information, they have added my review back to their website. Because of this, I am updating my review with four stars. I'm giving four instead of 5 because the process took longer than expected, and I basically had to prove my negative review.
I posted a review regarding a business on their website. I received an email asking me to call to confirm my review, which I did. Everything stated in my review was based on fact, no speculation or assumptions. They agreed to post the review. That evening, I noticed the review was gone. I contacted HomeAdvisor the next day and was told the business wanted it pulled so it could be updated. Wait, isn't this my review of the business not the businesses review of itself? They told me to call them to "discuss" further. No, why on earth would I have to call them twice to have my review posted. I will never use this website or service and will see if my account with them can be forever cancelled.
As stated here a million times over this service is a joke! I signed up and within 24 hours 4 garbage leads and a up front cost of around $300 then $70 within first day of crap leads.
Can't get a hold of leads to a person that I called her husband was an HVAC guy and no clue what HA even was. One lady even yelled at me and said take her off the list and she has told multiple contractors this over and over.
Called for a full refund in less than 24 hours. I was not looking to do the wait on hold for 2 hours again like I did yesterday trying to get a hold of HA again today. It was no answer yesterday, to fight with them on refunding me on junk leads. I've watched enough youtube videos of people doing that to know I wasn't going that route.
So if I were to speculate how HA works I'd say they give the leads initially to a couple of the national chain HVAC companies first. Then sell the ones that haven't been cherry picked over and over and over. My reason for saying this is that the person that I canceled with was boasting about the great national firms that use HA. I'm guessing that our company isn't a chain so we get the S*** leads.
I'll state this I had no intention on using HA as I've been in this business for over 20 years and heard horror stories. I wanted to see if what was being said was BS or real. It's real! Fortunately HA is refunding my money. IF that changes I will be back on here to flame them even more.
Spend your money somewhere where you will make money! BEWARE!
Hi Joe, We're sorry to hear you about your experience, we do our best to provide you with resources to help you sell your business. This is not how our service works, a homeowner has to submit a service request in order for you to receive it as a lead. In addition, a lead will be sent to a maximum of four pros, while many go to fewer. The process for your refund was started and is currently underway, we have cleared your outstanding balance for the leads you had received, and we have closed out your account. If there is any further assistance we can offer, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 or reach out to [email protected]. -HASupport
I was told when I signed up that I would receive a $100 lead credit, which was not applied. I emailed the salesman who never responded. I then called HomeAdvisor and was told that I would receive an email from the customer service rep with both the salesman and his supervisor cc'd so they could respond regarding my credit. Several days later, the credit was still not applied and I received no email or any call. I called customer service again. I was told I would be called back by a supervisor the next day. It never happened. I did get results with the last call, when I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor. All the reps were polite and personable, but that doesn't make up for company practices that are substandard. I was also told when I signed up that I would get a credit for leads where the customer never responded or due to certain other situations. In reality, I get leads where the person does not own the home (2 of the first 9 leads), where the lead clearly states that the person is "considering" a project and just wants a ball park budget (2 of 9 leads), a lead where another contractor was hired two days before we got the lead (HA told me they would not normally credit for this but "made an exception") and 2 leads where the customer never returned our call, even though I contacted them by several methods. I was told by HA that "normally" they would not credit for these leads either, because I had asked for too many credits! The salesman also never explained that the system requires you to respond through HA, even if the customer supplies direct contact information. I get that part, but two of my leads now show I didn't respond, even though I did to both of them. HA is trying to sell a product, which I get, but their lack of honesty and transparency, as well as their poor customer service are very frustrating. You also cannot figure out their fees for lead generation. Very small jobs can have very large fees, while larger jobs can have medium sized fees. There is no discernible way to compare the quality of the lead with the charged fee. At this time, 2 of our 9 leads have led to jobs, both small in nature, and we appreciate those jobs. Of the customers who we have been able to contact, 2 of 3 have hired us, and one we are still negotiating with. The salesman told us that over 80% of leads typically lead to a hire, so their numbers seem optimistic. I don't know if I will stay with this service, dealing with them over the $100 credit already cost me more than $100 in my time. Had they been a little more on top of their game, like they advise we contractors to do, I might feel more positively inclined. If my customer service and contracts looked like theirs, I'd be out of business in short order.
Hi Stacey, We're sorry to hear about your experience thus far. It appears you were able to speak with a rep about this matter and have the $100 credit applied to your account. Lead fees are based on the size and scope of the project, if you think you have received a lead under the wrong category, you can submit a credit request to have it adjusted to the right fee. We regret that you have had a bumpy experience with our service, we're always happy to address any concerns you have with your account or leads. To speak with a rep, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 or send info to [email protected] and a rep will follow up. -HASupport
Hired H&D Home Repair, LLC to put roof Christmas lights Nov 23rd 2017, today is December 4 2017. I got ripped off. Paid half of $800. The owner has given me the run around. No installation or money back. Everyday has been an excuse on why he hasn't installed it. I was feed up yesterday and ask for a refund. Hes now stating he will mail me a check made out to cash. Which is a lie. I have all texts and receipt of deposit. I will report all this to the police department. I went to address of his company and he disappeared. I googled him and he's rated a F with BBB. Has another open case for $5000 he ran off with as well another for $800. I'm hoping Home Advisor whom recommended him or the police department will resolve this issue. I want my money back. He tries to talk over you when you talk and always has a reason why he hasn't done the job or can't bring back the $400 cash. He's a con. Stay far away. Less, as well this same owner owns the company Home Fix Construction, LLC, which was banned from Home Advisers. I dont know how same owner is able to come back on with different LLC. I made a formal complaint to BBB & NJ Attorney General of Consumers. He has scammed alot more people. Home Advisor has not helped me on this matter after several attempts to rectify.
Hi Chris, We're sorry to hear this. It appears you have already been in contact with our Customer Solutions department. If there is any further assistance we can offer, please contact the resources you've been provided or reach out to [email protected] and a rep will follow up. -HASupport
You can spend your money better ways. I tried it out and most of the leads are very poor. Even when someone chooses a category it could be wrong and Home advisor does not care. They are not a partner. They only suck your blood. Caution! I wish I had seen this site and read all the bad review before I tried it out.
Hi Steven, We're sorry to hear this, leads that are submitted under the wrong category are absolutely eligible for a credit. It looks like you were able to speak with a rep about your lead concerns, if there is anything else we can assist you with please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 or send info to [email protected]. -HASupport
I just started working with home advisor as contractor, and I received 3 job proposals, the problem is, the clients seem to be fake because they do not respond to the messages and do not answer the phone calls! But the home advisor is even charging me.
I do not recommend anyone to work with them...
Hi Ricardo, We're sorry to hear you've had some trouble contacting these leads, a homeowner not responding to you does not mean the lead is fake and can easily turn into a project later on. That said, it does appear you were able to get credit applied for the leads you received. We're happy to address any other concerns you have with leads or your account, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639. -HASupport
This was the worst company to ever get involved in. It was a total waste of money. If you are a contractor stay away. Build your business through word of mouth. I was told that once I excepted a lead I would be charged, not the case. In less than three weeks I paid them over 650.00. They wouldn't refund my start up fee because it was over the 3 day period. If you do decide to go with them remember every time your phone rings you are charged. They charge you based on the size of the job, and they can deem that any way they want.
Hi Donald, We're sorry to hear about your experience, lead fees are covered in the voice log when you sign up and are always available on your Pro Page. Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
