HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Everything as stated below is completely accurate! The leads arent legit and the numbers they give you as leads are as worthless as disputing the leads! Which is a joke! These guys need taken down by the FTC! File a complaint! These guys need exposed. Im a contractor who was harassed by these jokes and finally decided to give them a try! What a mistake. Almost 800 dollars later Ive had enough. Then the guy who I spoke to on the phone when I was closing my account was so stupid I had to keep repeating to close my account and threaten to turn them into the FTC which I decided to do anyhow! Total jokes!

For over 12 years or more I have been loyal homeadvisor client. Thousands of dollars wasted on bad leads, bad phone numbers, bad customer service to resolve the issues. I am a 5 star company that takes pride in reviews and making all my clients happy even if i have do the work for free, I gave homeadvisor many oppurtunities to correct problems and did tracking of thier leads to a higher level only to be dissappointed in the outcome. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and stayed with them for years and the best thing homeadvisor is good at is taking your money.

They must sell the same leads to too many contractors. You can't get bad leads returned either, even for people telling you that they no longer doing the project... or people telling you that you called the wrong number or don't call again. They would make up excuses saying that they verified that it is the right number. Worst company, worst leads ever. Save your money and time, please don't buy any leads from them.

Buyer Beware
February 15, 2018

I don't believe they check out their contractors thoroughly, we just got scammed by one of their so-called "Approved" contractors and are now left holding the bag. After doing our research with the CCB of Oregon with takes all of 60 seconds we find out this Approved Contractor has multiple disputes against them.
You would think Home Advisors would do a background check, but I guess they only care about the advertising profits, customer be dammed.

So if you are like many you are probably a person who wants to leverage the marketing that HA provides to help your business, or your a consumer. My review is based on my 1st year with HomeAdvisor as a business.

Pro's
1. You will definitely drive traffic to your business. HomeAdvisor is used by a lot of people and your business will definitely get exposure.
2. It's very simple to use, and I really enjoyed that when you received a lead you got all the customers information, job description, and everything.

Con's
1. You pay for good and bad leads which can range from $15 to $24 per lead. This might not sound like much but when you get 33 bad leads to 8 good leads in a month, then you might think differently.
2. What people might not ask themselves is, Why is there two amounts $15 and $24? So the way HA works is the lower charge is for 3 contractors receiving the same lead as you. So it is basically a race amongst the 3 of the contractors to possibly getting that lead. The higher lead charge is for that lead to only go to you. Now you might think that means its guaranteed but that is not true. You have to hope that customer isn't looking outside of HA for a person to do the job.
3. You will only win about 20-30% of the leads you get. For some reason people don't answer their phones, just browsing, or they found someone else outside of HA.
4. Now you can request a credit for the "bad" leads. But good luck with that. HA is extremely picky about what is deemed "bad".
5. you pay an annual membership fee to be with HomeAdvisor which if I am not mistaken is about $400-$800 dollars.

In the end the it just was not worth me continuing with HomeAdvisor. I would say that if you are willing to pay the price, then yes HomeAdvisor is great for getting your name out there. I think it would be beneficial if you used HA as a temporary marketing strategy, but keep in my that all the money you are paying them... is money you could be saving and spending a fraction of it on door hangars, business cards, flyers, and etc.

There is no better marketing then you pounding the ground.

In the end it just didn't make sense for me to co

Home Advisor sells the same lead to several contractors say up to 10, But only one could win the job, even if you call the prospect lead and they do not answer, contractors are supposed to pay the high price for the lead ($20-$80 per lead).
When we were with Service Magic (now Home Advisor), we complained but they were unwilling to give us credit for their dead leads. No way to run a business with Home Advisor. BE READY TO PAY HIGHER PRICES WHEN USING HOME ADVISOR.

I hired a foundation company referred to me by HomeAdvisor. The company did not get the required permit as they stated they would in their contract and so I was out $2,460 for work that I paid for that had to be re-done. When I contacted HomeAdvisor they contacted the contractor but he refused to refund me any money and HomeAdvisor would not give me any information about the company they had.

A couple of years ago I contacted a deck contractor from HA's referral list to re-do my decking. Sent photos and measurements of top and underside of deck. Never heard back from him. Not even an acknowledgement.

This year I contacted AMP Landscaping for the removal of my hedge and soil prep. A full week has gone by and I've not heard back.

In each case, HomeAdvisor emailed me to ask if I'd heard from these people. In each case, I replied NO.

Case closed. I will not use them again...

Stay Away
February 9, 2018

The Sales Pitch is wonderful... Execution is poor at best... They say they will credit BAD leads... Make sure you get BAD defined... there definition of a BAD lead does not equate to a Business Owners definition. Cost me over $500 in one month without a Lead! This was my experience... $500 can get you plenty of leads with other marketing options. My advise STAY AWAY!

This is a total rip off company. I have asked them to change the filters so I don't get referrals that aren't any good. Nothing. So, I still have to pay for bad referrals. They even put a customer referral on my page that is totally false and misleading--never happened--I never dealt with that customer. I have many referrals from HA that are terrible--even their customer service rep agreed. But won't reduce the amount they think I owe them. DON'T DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!

They take your money and don't provide legitimate leads. Leads don't call back, leads are just "shopping" and not ready for work, leads found someone else. In HomeAdvisors own words, "these are NOT reasons for a refund".

For the first few days they will promise you the world. After that your on your own and the leads we are receiving are never quality, if they even ever call us back. Also receiving credit is difficult. My original contact person, which said it was the greatest since sliced bread, and he would could reach him any time. Well 3 months in I can't reach him or anyone else.

I decided to try and drum up some business with these guys. Should've known better when the place calls you it's never good. After throwing out almost $350 they sent me a huge number of so called leads. In three weeks and hundreds of dollars I managed to get it to where I didn't get charged only because I said I would give it another shot but never reauthorized my credit card. Of course they went ahead and started charging my card fraudulently for services not provided. Thank god for good credit card companies. I got out with only my $350 out. Run! Don't walk, run from this phone call!

They have lousy leads...
February 1, 2018

I signed up. Payed the yearly fee. Got close to 30 leads... ALL WERE A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. Don't use them. You will waste your money. They don't screen the
Clients that call in. YOU PAY FOR EVERY LEAD REGARDLESS OF whether or not you can contact them. On most leads I could not even leave a message and when I was able to I NEVER GOT A CALL/EMAIL BACK. 90% of the leads I could not contact. The remaining 10% were not even interested in doing any work. TOTAL WASTE. And you will not get your money back!

Finally resolved my issues with Home Advisor! Since I use Discover card, I filed a complaint with the money that was paid to Home Advisor (for which I received nothing), and Discover card took up the fight for me AND WON. Then Home Advisor sent me a notice that I was being turned over to collection. I called Home Advisor on 3/16/2018 and after a lengthy phone call, I received an account statement for $0.00 balance. Believe me when I say that it was one of the most expensive statements that I have ever received. Without the help of Discover card I would be out the money, Thanks Discover card!

Money snatchers!
January 24, 2018

Home advisor sounds good at first until you sign up with them! They send you leads, you get excited, then boom no one ever answers, the number is disconnected, or its the wrong number. We believe that more than half of these leads are fake. Weve had one good lead out of like 12. Not to mention our account is charged EVERY time they send a lead before you even talk to the customer. I do not think we should be charged before even finding out if its an accurate number and a real person! This is not how you do business. HomeAdvisor should get paid once we get paid. Not the other way around! Then when you request a credit because you cant get a response or a call back from customer they dont even want to refund you back your money! Even after youve paid a $300 membership fee! This company will scam you! The sales rep will trick you into signing and not tell you about all the hidden fees! We were also told our leads would not be anymore than $50.00! Weve received leads that were over $70.00! They need to learn how to properly run a business. We do NOT recommend this place. The only reason it has a one star is because we might get a job out of the 12 weve been sent. If you are trying to grow your business this is NOT the place to go. They will take your money in advance!

RIP OFF
January 21, 2018

This is the worst. They charge you for leads you don't receive. Most of the leads are a waste of time. They tell you in their sales pitch you can cancel at any time but that's not exactly true. You can cancel but you don't get any money back. When renewal time comes up you are not notified so when you are charged and you call to cancel they charge you for the year you argue for 2 hours with them to finally get them to agree to refund you 1/2 the money back. When you call them out on them saying they sent you emails they tell you they can see it in there data base but when you ask them to send you a screen shot so you can see what they say they sent they tell you they can not do that without a subpoena. Now that I have closed my account they say I will receive something within 24 hours showing a 0 balance and then she turns around and says accounts receivable may call me saying that I may not be refunded. No wonder the customer gets poor contractors as reputable contractors won't work for them anymore after being treated this way.
