The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I sign up as a pro service provider. They charge at the first day $230 and you have 3-day to cancel and refund. During this 3-day they assign you a support person. After that 3 days gone they show you the other side of the card which is not look like what they said. Now,... 3 days gone, you already pay them $230 and they already send you some initial fake customer... after 5 day you see that you owe them almost $500 and at this time you are the looser.
Do not start with them!
It is a leap of faith to let a stranger into your home. I chose homeadvisor, because in their commercials they said they screen contractors. I hired a contractor that they had to call me for drywall and painting. He was with chug a lug. He did not put down a tarp while removing my ceiling and insulation in bedroom. My hardwood floors are damaged. My son confronted him and stated this was not a professional job. He said he would sand the scratches and fix the floor. He did NOT! The window panes have paint on them and I can't raise them. I called chug a lug and he answered the phone after telling me he was not with them, but home advisor sold my info. I called home advisor and they said I should call the police. The contractor showed up at my home and smelled of alcohol and said the owner of chug a lug called me a rasist. I am terrified of this man and my husband is disabled. Home Advisor said they were sorry. I am out $1550. The contractor demanded cash, because his power was going to be cut of at the end of the day. This was a nightmare.
I signed up for Home Advisor in January and I have spent approximately $800 with them and didn't get a legitimate lead. It's throwing money down the toilet. I also have called them 3 times for billing errors. They charge you for leads that are not even in your industry you are working. They sneak in other charges and if you don't catch them then you end up paying for charges and fees that don't even belong on your bill. Billing fraud. How do the employees sleep at night knowing they are ripping off good companies that are just trying to help their businesses grow.
RIPOFF!
As a professional I was enticed to join Home Advisor a year ago. Nothing I was promised was true, including the fees they charge. After the first month I knew this was a mistake because the only calls/emails I got from Home Advisor customers were for crazy things not even remotely connected to my business. I called to cancel (I was told in the beginning I could do this at any time) I am STILL fighting with Home Advisor for them to stop sending me these ridiculous customer requests and also to stop charging my credit card for each one of these calls that I DO NOT EVEN ANSWER! I think they make up bogus requests and send them to me so it looks like they have a reason to charge me. It looks as though now I will have to hire an attorney to get involved to stop the harassment form Home Advisor. If you are a professional DO NOT get involved with this company! If you're a consumer don't call Home Advisor because they do not care who they hook you up with. SCAM!
I want Home Advisor to STOP calling me or sending me any sort of calls or emails. LEAVE ME ALONE!
Hi Franz, We're sorry to hear about your experience. You are able to cancel at any time and leads are created when a homeowner submits a service request. It appears you have canceled your account. We used these folks back in 2015 and ended up having a Ex -con on our property and he ripped us off. I wouldn't trust what they are advertising.
I have been with home advisor twice now. The first time they took my money and I got nothing for 3 months. This time I was assured that it had changed and I would love it. I payed my $287.00 and signed up. Well 2nd day I got a lead then 4 weeks passed with nothing. I called and was told there were no requests for home inspectors. I live in Detroit and work all of southeast Michigan so to believe no requests had come in is pretty far fetched. I recieved 2 instant match leads which I. Responded within 30 seconds and was told lead was closed already. Yeah right most likely made up leads. Then they sent me a match lead. I called and called and nothing. I just called the customer and he said that his wife hired somebody a couple days ago and it was not with home advisor. They charged me 17.00 for that lead. I called and cancelled my membership with them. Contractors PLEASE stay away from this company they will rip you off and there's not a thing you can do about it. Beware
Stop Calling me - LandScape Protection Services LLC - i will never say yes and routinely warn others too avoid.
HomeAdvisor Hi Alex, We're sorry to hear this, we have placed you on our Do Not Call list. -HASupport
They say whatever it takes to get you signed up, claiming there is a tremendous amount of requests in your ares for your services, which you find out after signing up to be a lie, you can call them, however they dont offer serious assistance, when you try cancelling they give you a run around not to allow you, filled a complaint with credit card company, which they ignored, so got money back, they then threaten wiyh sending to collection agency, although by law they needed to respond to the credit card claim, does this sound like a honest or scam company? American Express confirmed that they have many complaints about HomeAdvisor, so for your own benefit, keep away, dont sign up with them!
I got with these guys only 5 months ago. I should a just thrown the money down the toilet. I'd say more than half the leads aren't real, I've only been able to actually to talk with 10% of my leads. And I call within a minute I get the leads. Use anyone else, or no one at all! Save your money.
Fyi, good luck at getting good customer service or a refund when they send you a lead for a trade I'm not even licensed in.
Home advisor signs and promotes UNLICENSED CONTRACTORS in Minnesota and im sure all the other states.
Worst business decision we have ever msde for our company. No lead pans out the phone numbers are always a dead end but yet we get charged anyway. We plan on filing a lawsuit because we did not receive the services we signed up for. Nothing but harrassing phone calls with nobody on the other end and they drain your bank account. Total BS that you can only pause the leads for 14days when you are a seasonal business!
Cancelled over a year ago. Charged me again almost $300.00! https://www.abouthomeadvisor.com/who-we-are/executive-team/ if you want to tell the little scam artist what you think of his company. Chris Terrill is a thief and the CEO of the company.
" Most of the leads were not legitimate. Made actual contact with less than 20% of the leads... even when calling back within seconds, making multiple calls, sending texts and sending emails. On some callbacks, the numbers never even rang, 3 beeps and a disconnect. They will also renew your membership automatically, without notification, and refuse refunds. There is a class action lawsuit pending against the company.
This company is a scam! So sad they bought out AngiesList. I'll keep this simple!
- Fake leads.
- Leads provide fake Information.
- 9/10 or 90% of Leads are usually shopping just getting quotes.
- By the time you contact your lead HomeAdvisor already sent the same lead to about 10-15 other Contractors.
- By the time you call your lead... you'll be lucky if 8 other contractors already called them.
- I have had leads tell me "If i would have known HomeAdvisor was going to solicit my phone number i would have never joined!"
- Request a Credit is BS they charge anyways!
- There is no effort put into creating genuine leads... I know i made a fake account with fake email and phone numbers to test out their system!
HomeAdvisor Pro is the worst lead generator! Contractors BEWARE!
It's a great concept but I believe they are too busy trying to gather enough money ( on the backs of hard working contractors) to pay for the purchase of Angie's List.
They take up a lot of your time.
I couldn't give them a zero.
While I don't need the newer to start well how about them getting into account that they weren't supposed to yeah got my count so upside down a lost my count yeah crooked lying deceitful pathetic pukes that's what they are I wish we could all get together and do something about companies like this that make us just never wanna trust a company again but at least there's other people out there that we can warn before they get taken for their leads it cost 50 to $200 for nothing no one answered no problem no it's a big problem this companies the biggest joke and I just can't I gotta stop now before I puke again service magic home in visor you're right I give him a 0 to if we could I put a 0 down I know if they deserve To pay back the $1800 they stole from me an my family. Good luck together fellow contractors we don't need people like this but puke with me please I'm from Colorado this is a disgrace having a company like that but at least they change their name and got over on a bunch of people. Like a true professionals like they say they are?
Home Advisor sends you leads which you pay for. Then you contact the lead based on the information (phone number/email) you are given. When you call the phone numbers you are given and the person answers your call and says they never requested your service or called home advisor you have to ask for a refund from home advisor. They refuse to give you a credit for providing USELESS information and their excuse is we dont have the resources to verify all the information we pass on to you and thats the cost of doing business. Wow what a great way to screw honest business owners out of money!
To the point, they are super responsive in the beginning talking about how much they can help you out and you only pay for qualified leads. Then they did the following.
1. put me in a much larger coverage area
2. Charged me for leads outside of my coverage area
3. Charged me for leads of a different service than we offer
They say you can simply request a credit if the lead doesn't match but, after 2 credit requests they start denying credits. In one case they approved the credit but only refunded 30% of the fee. As it is, they owe me $47 for credits outstanding.
Oh yeah, and they say you can turn off leads anytime you want but, they automatically turn them back on for you in 3 days so they can magically start charging you again.
They are money hungry. Put your money into SEO or other online marketing.
LIARS! PANTS COMPLEATLY ON FIRE!
BEWARE! Ask For Matty Adema!
These folks are still allowed to lie, cheat & steal: The old fashioned way...
THEY ARE JUST SOO SWEET & EMPTY
I have a small part-time lawn cutting business and was looking at picking up maybe 6 more steady clients fairly quickly. I figured the sign-up fee and leads would pay for themselves with 6 more steady customers. So I inquired and got some of the details to think about it but they kept hounding me to try to get me signed up. I should have gone with my gut. They told me they had 3 great leads/customers in my local area just ready and waiting to find a good business. Finally, I signed up for just my local area. I waited for two weeks and never even got a call or single lead. Needless to say, it was a bait and switch and I fell for it. Finally I got my first lead and it was in another county. I had to call and get it straightened out. Then I got another. It was horrible. 1/4 acre lot with one foot high grass and they wanted it cut only once a month for $30. You gotta be kidding me! That was when I knew I needed to cut my losses. 3 strikes and they're out. Two more horrible leads trickled in. That was it. I decided I was bailing. I paused my leads and sent in a horrible review to a survey they sent out. Nothing! I kept pausing and got another survey and said the same thing. Still nobody called to check on me. Finally I called and cancelled and gave them a scathing review of their business. The guy just cancelled my account and hung up. Over $450 out of my pocket and absolutely nothing for it but pain. SCAM.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
