The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I hired two services through the website. Both were terrible, but at least one service tried to make it right. The other one took me for $5200 and Home Advisor took down my bad review of the company! They are not helping resolve the issue either and basically told me too bad,
I've listed two businesses under Home Advisor. One of them is a window cleaning company. The other business is a carpet cleaning company. I've been listed with them for over 10 years, and signed up an activation fee that I was only hoping and wanting to pay just once.
Yesterday they took $308 from my bank account without me knowing it. They said they sent an email. My emails are rarely looked at. When I receive leads from Home Advisor it is usually through the app. I do not have time to filter what's good email and what's bad email. I tried to tell them I wanted my $308 reimbursed but they refused. I told them I was discontinuing the service and I wanted it reimbursed.
They said they had a policy to not reimburse money. That money was not authorized to be withdrawn from my bank account. They said they can give me credits although I wanted to just cancel. Everytime I try to relate my case the woman sounded like a robot repeating the same thing over and over again. They kept asking how could we make this right. I said I wanted a refund and they said that wasn't possible.
If they was going to charge my account all of that money they should have done more than send an email. I would have appreciated a telephone call or something coming through the app that I were more likely have seen. I would have opted to cancel the service for that amount of money that's going to get paid year after year after year. Home advisors a bunch of crooks. I've already complain to them to my bank. They fraudulently charged my credit card. I am also going to report them to the Better Business Bureau for fraudulently charging my credit card.
HomeAdvisor are a bunch of crooks and they will steal your money without you knowing it. They will charge your card an enormous amount of money not associated with your leads because they have your credit card. If you don't want to lose your money do not sign up with Home Advisor. They are a bunch of crooks. I've looked into what they've done and it was illegal. They are a scam artist that is that will take your money at will.
Home Advisor is great to help a new business get their name out there. We won some of the leads we received and met some really great customers. However, they give a disgruntled customer the ability to leave a review even if you didn't do any work for them. The call their contractors "valued" but yet, they do nothing to assist the contractor. Anyone can do onto your Home Advisor page and leave an unverified review. And the only option the contractor has is to respond. Would be nice if these valued contractors could rate the customers!
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY THEY WILL SCAM YOU THEY CHARGE THE CONTRACTORS A LOT OF MONEY FOR LEADS THEN SELL LEADS TO DIFFIDENT CONTRACTOR AND RESELL THE LEAD AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN THEY USED BE SERVICE MAGIC THEN THEY CHANGED THEIR NAME TO HOME ADVISER THEY HAVE PROBLEM WITH MANY CUSTOMERS AND CONTRACTORS BE SMART AND STAY AWAY
Home advisor is a big scam. Before I verbally signed the contract the agent I spoke to said I would be able to get credit back for the leads if they are just estimates and dont get to do the job. I'm not able to receive my money back. I would not recommend it to anybody
After signing up I got 5 leads. Three had incorrect phone numbers and one was just a guy who was curious how much a fence so I cancelled my account. the other one said he made a mistake. After i contacted HomeAdvisor to credit me they said that they will. I then received a bill and they did not end up giving me the credit. I spoke to a guy Brad and he was nasty. All he said was I'm Sorry all I can do is take payment from you. I asked him why am I being charged if the customer does not answer or if the phone number provided is a non working number. He responded that I should keep trying even for a years time. That was a very unprofessional way of dealing with such sarcasm. Please do not sign up with them. They will not help you with any issues regarding leads.
I was victimized by the so call business which appears to be a legit company only by the fact that it is associated with the Home Advisers website.
I recently had a job done on my drive way to correct cracks in the cement caused by a cheap job done by the building contractors.
I trusted these people because they were on Home Advisers website, which was a big mistake.
Fast forward to the job I paid this company $1,150 to take care of the cracking and a week later the cracks was more visible because of the fresh cement.
I called and they came to look at the job and I told them if they were not going to do it the right way not to do it at all, after three calls without any kind of contact they have not returned my calls.
I am kicking myself for letting these people take advantage of me, which i am usually very carefull in dealing with contractors of any kind.
Their way of repairing the drive way was tp put some kind of portland product in a slurry form, the very next week the cracks were back and after telling them they had to cut around the cracks and then fill them with new product they never showed up.
The product they used might have cost them all of $100 from Home Depot.
So if any one is considering have any work done by this Company or you were one of the home owners that was scammed by this company, before you hire them please go to [ BEEN VERIFIED] and enter the name Gregory Allen Meyers of Land'o lakes Fla. And you will get some information about the principles of the company
That would be Gregory A. Meyers, they father and son, they have an extensive record from Pennsylvania, so please do yourself a big favor and check them out, I have and i got a treasure trove of information.
As soon as I finish writing this review I am heading to the Pasco county sheriff's office to file a fraud case.

I got account with them because they lied to me... said everything I wanted I could have. I asked for weekly and biweekly services, they said was going to send me only those. They sent me many leads that I wasnt interested in, wasnt what I was looking for and do I have to pay for? They said me one price for lead and charged other... they was charging lead more expensive than the price for job was... nobody answered phone, email, texted back and I had been charged! I just wasted my time and money! This website is all about money and they dont care if you get customers. I am in a difficult situation and they stolen me!
After signing up several years ago I got three leads. Two had incorrect phone numbers and one was just a guy who was curious how much a water heater cost, so I cancelled my account. A year later HomeAdvisor hit my card for renewal. I called but no refund was provided, so I contacted the Better Business Bureau, who contacted HomeAdvisor and sent a message that my refund was forthcoming. After 2 weeks, still no refund. HomeAdvisor is a scam at best.
I wish I looked for reviews before signing up with them. After reading some reviews here, it makes me really sad to see I am not the only person who has lost money by trusting these smarties.
And even worse, looks like they thrive on new, small businesses like mine, people who are trying to get known and give new clients an image of being a trustworthy and reliable business.
Like other people here, I had a super friendly call, offering me lots of advantages, comparing themselves to their competence, and telling me I would not pay for jobs I don't get, unlike (they said) their competence.
Lies, lies, lies... I haven't got a single job since I signed up yet I have paid for 5. Getting a refund is almost impossible. You will not qualify for one for many, many reasons they keep up their sleeve.
One of the leads I got had the address of a home that was on sale.
Leads never answered the phone, or my text messages, or my emails. Leads never answered back, it really is like they never existed.
But hey, the fee exists, my bank account is a painful witness of this.
STAY AWAY is my advice. Just be smarter than I was and don't fall for this.
I know it is really hard to be seen out there with so many competitors and specially, so many competitors with experience. But I am just hoping that this bad experience and the money I have LOST serves at least for other pros to stay away from this scam.
Sad, really sad that some companies have no regrets when it is about making money out of our good intentions, our will to work as much as possible and our expectatives of making a living from doing what we know.
Shame on these folks.
Rip off rip off can you say rip off... they will cheat, lie and steal from you and you get nothing in return
We used HomeAdvisor over a year ago to help us find a plumber. After receiving three calls from different contactors, I decided to do a little research on each. All three had very negative local ratings from Yelp and Google Maps. I rejected all three and ended up hiring a well reviewed plumber with many independent reviews... something I should have done in the first place.
It gets worse. HomeAdvisor continue calling me about this, even after I asked them to put me on their do-not-call list. I still receive calls to see "If there are any projects I might have coming up that they can refer contractors for." Now after reviewing all these negative reviews from contractors, I understand their model. Generate as many leads as possible so they can charge contractors a referral fee. In fact, the only positive reviews I've found about HomeAdvisor come from their own site and from a site called consumeraffairs.com. Consumeraffairs.com is obviously a paid review service as almost all the vendors have a 5/5 score and virtually no negative reviews or feedback.
The lesson learned? HomeAdvisor is NOT an advocate for the consumer or for the contractor. They are merely a marketing machine focused on generating as much money as possible before people actually understand who they really are. When that happens, they will just change names again (they've already done this at least once) to do it all over again... buyer beware!
I signed up in Jan, 2018 and paid $315 for one year listing and had to cancel the listing after one month. Reason the security was compromised my information was shared or sold to others. I was getting bogus leads and calls from overseas non stop so i had to cancel the listing with them when i complained to them they says there is nothing that they can do they did not even refund so i took the loose. If you not concern about your information been shared so you can sign up. I would strongly not recommend to any one. Hope this might help some one.
I signed up with Amanda Bolton for a new account and she told me the lead cost per lead would be $6/lead for lawn maintenance. I got my first lead and I was charged $15/lead for lawn maintenance. I tried calling and texting the lead, but the voicemail was generic and no one responded to the text. It seemed like a very suspicious beginning. And I definately feel cheated by their poor business practices. I was missinformed by their company in order to get me to sign up. I called to let them know about the difference in fee between what I was charged and the what I was told when I signed up and I was basically told that the $6/lead was for lawn aeration, and $15/lead was for lawn maintenance.
I feel like I just threw away $300 for the registration fee.
I'm a roofing contractor who was slow and thought, lets join H Advisor and see what its about and pickup some fill in work. Mind you, I never ever had to advertise in 35 yrs. All word of mouth. They so call background ck you which is nothing a homeowner can't do. Then you give them your CC and the fun begins. They charge you a initial $250. Joining fee... For a roof estimate they were charging me 87.00 & 131.00 per roof est depending on the size and area the job is in...
Well, the 2nd or 3rd lead I got was a fake. And I got atleast 3 of them. Now you have to go back and request a credit. Theres a job. And when they tell you they can't give you one, then the blood starts boiling... And the moment you call back on a lead, they're pulling the money out of your acct. And you get homeowners that just want an idea of what their roof will cost to replace, not knowing it just cost me $131.and they had no plans of replacing the roof. That happened a half dozen times. They tell you its free. Yes it is for the homeowner, but not the contractor...
They say they give the lead to you and 3 other contractors. Then the race is on for you to call the homeowner ASAP... A few homeowners told me that so many contractors called that they didn't want me to show up... BANG.$87.00 down the drain. I did get a few jobs, but only repairs... It was a waste of about $2500 I pd them. Eventually I cancelled them after 8 mons or so... Theres so much more to this experience with HOMEADVISOR, I don't think Sitejabber has enough room for me to print it. So... STAY AWAY. Homeowners and legit CONTRACTORS.
I have a roofing company and have been using HomeAdvisor for approximately 4 years now. I would say that HomeAdvisor generates about 90% of our total business. We have a budget of $500 a month for leads, and exceed $1M in sales every year. I don't understand why so many people are not happy with HA. One thing to note - you MUST call the lead as soon as you receive it, as in my industry, it's usually first come first serve. It's also important to stay on top of the lead, by calling, email, and text. If no response after multiple attempts, we request a refund, and HA is very good about refunding our money back.
Contractors on home adviser have real reviews that can not be faked. Their service is fast and reliable. Good job!
I am an HVAC contractor, every lead they sent me was Junk, they claim that they qualify their Leads, I beg to differ! I think you would be better off randomly knocking on someone's door and asking for work, than using home advisor...
I'm a contractor for at least 12 years with homeadvisor, I started with them when it was Servicemagic and really it was magic, no least than 10-15 leads per month and 80% of them very good leads, with homeadvisor everything changed, some months no leads, 3-4 leads per month, bad questions to leads so 90% of them are bad leads (in my industry concrete curbs, when a lead needs less than 60 LF of curbing, is not worth call them, you lost $25-45 just per lead with homeadvisor, you don't want to loss more money calling or visiting them) customer service is lousy, try chat, they say wait for 12 minutes, after 15 minutes they say sorry try later, try with representative, most of them is like you are talking with your enemy, they hang up, they make you wait for long time on the phone (lot of times more than 1 hour), they never find a supervisor to speak with them, they do not resolve almost nothing and this year homeadvisor are sending repeated leads so, if you are not above them, they will charge double money on your credit card or bank account and you have to spend hours by phone trying to get your money back. Ahhh sometimes they send leads nothing with your business and you can't do nothing trying to get your money back.
HomeAdvisor recently sent me an email thanking me for my Carpet Install Service Request, upon opening the email it was clearly clickbait to get me to visit their website and create an account. It's an American company that appears to have stumbled on a grand list of emails and is likely sending them out to everyone. I unsubscribed and was told it would take up to 10 days to remove me from the mailing list.
Very low class and unprofessional marketing.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
