The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Tried it once. Had someone show up at my house when I was just interested in reviewing some of their recommendations. Had to tell the guy I did not agree to any appointments. Will never use again.
These people called me and called me for months on end trying to get me to sign up. Finally after talking to a colleague I signed up. I did one or two jobs and got paid for them. Then a bunch of "FAKE LEADS" started coming in and I was being charged for them. They sent a bunch of Mount TV on Wall leads and only one of them answered the call. However, when it came time to do the job the guy never answered the phone, nor did he call me back. I found it funny when another lead told me that I had the wrong number. They are just out to get your money. Run from this company like it has full blown AIDS.
This compnay is just there to suck the money out you. They sign you up for addition services without your knowledge after I brought it to their attention after staying on the phone for 2 hours, they said well, there is no way for us to confirm if you yourself didnt add this service! I asked them to check and see if I ever clicked on this service. I didnt even k wo where it is! And offered half of it back as a credit into my account!
My account has been signed up for 1 lead a week. Couple of weeks ago they called me that by signing for one lead I am missing big time! Then it has been two weeks that I have not received a single lead. They say well it is not much of a demand on your area. It is spring beginning of summer, this is the busy time of our business. Anyway, if you have spare money to spend and if you have a patience of a saint, sign up for this scam
Scam... Scam... Scam! They send terrible reviews... Just want your money... can NOT make money from them
Hired through Home Advisor for a contractor to fix soil erosion in my back yard last year his name was Shawn Powell charged me $800.00 for the job that was clearly worth around $350.00 -$400.00.
Complained through Home Advisor and their policy was to contact the contractor for their response, the next thing when I checked for his response Home Advisor deleted my post.
Beware they are trying to maintain a 5.0 rating to compete with the other companies but their reviews for their contractors can be deceptive and misleading customers in the process of trying to find a good contractor that's honest and actually do what the job right.
As a contractor this company will not leave me alone. They call at least 5 times a day after they were asked to remove me from their list. They don't ask for any qualifications, just want me to pay to be on their list. The people paying to be on their list are probably not the people you want to hire.
Home advisor is a total SCAM. Leads are all trash. I got 10 leads and 10 were trash. I then Tried to get credit for the trash leads and they refused online and cant be reached on the phone unless your a new customer looking to sign up. Once your signed up,,,, forget about getting any customer service. Grade: F minus
They send a general contractor leads for replacing 2 stones on a walkway, replacing the metal facing on a garage door and switching out a commode, then will not give you credit for the hundreds they just charged or sending the unvetted lead. And then when you call a number that is non-working from a supposed lead they will not credit. It is truly 80% ripoff! After a couple of thousand dollars, we have one or two small leads that are actually viable. Not saying we couldn't close a lead, saying the leads are so bad that the work is truly for a handyman and not a GC even after being very specific in lead management. They do not vet leads at all!
Signed up as a home advisor pro, they charge you for "leads" who never respond. I don't even think they are real people.
Your company does not do the proper research and vetting on your vendors. I hired 2 vendors from you. The first one told me you never called him back to do his background check. The second one i hired stole from me. What kind of company are you running?
Leads are trash, I cant even get connected to 80% of them. The number all run through home advisor and they never connect me. Then they charge me for it. Total crap
This site says it does a background check on contractors... mine was approved in less than 3 minutes. What kind of check is that? They lied to me to get me to sign up and 5 days later I realized this tried to cancel... they said I was out of my 3 day window. Leads are complete garbage. Most of the time no one answers or calls you back. Home advisor just says we gave you a name and number so no refund. Complete GARBAGE!
I have been A contractor through home advisors for a short period. I have yet to earn one sale from their leads and I have been selling my product for 14 years. The majority of the customer leads they have sent me I can not even reached. The problem is they still charge you for the lead, regardless. I am finished and my next complaint is with the Better Business Bureau. Although I doubt that they even care. I have never felt more cheated and misled in my whole life! The free ride for them with me is over.
If you have been lucky enough to have a contractor from Home Advisor contact you... consider yourself fortunate! We have submitted two requests... one was 1 year ago and we are still waiting for someone to contact us to provide a quote. The other was submitted in February. We heard from only ONE contractor who says he only works in the summer months. At this point, even if I heard from anyone, I would be reluctant to use them based on the lag time for responding.
We started dealing with these crooks on 4-11-18 and tried to cancel membership after them taking 572.00 out of my account within 2 weeks which was 4-26-18. This company gives false leads and then charges 32.00 for that fake lead! They won't respond to your calls and keep taking from my account even though we cancelled them, I had to go in and close out my account and start another one so the deductions would stop! Which messed up my checking account severely! This company needs a class action law suit put against them to shut them down now! Anyone interested? Let's put these scumbags out of business and get all the money back to honest business owners that are owed!
I wrote another negative review of this company a while back but is has become buried by yet more negative reviews. This is all deserved.
I experienced all the same problems listed in the other reviews and it was very frustrating. I paid lots of money for nothing.
They wouldn't stop charging my account or cancel my account. The fake leads just kept pouring in. There were a few valid leads mixed in but they were junk as well. No one wanted to pay for anything.
Anyway, I told them I was going to the bank and put a stop payment on HomeAdvisor. Since this was considered fraud by the bank, they had to cancel my account and generate a new account number. This was a HUGE inconvenience but the ONLY way to get rid of HomeAdvisor. I had to setup my auto pay for many bills all over again and missed a few, so was late on those.
Anyway, they sent me a notice that I would get sent to collections and expected me to pay the chargeback fee as well. I told them they could take that collections notice and stick it where the sun don't shine and that I wouldn't be paying so just send me to collections. They realized I was PISSED so no point in trying to get anything out of me. They simply nullified my bills and cancelled my account at this time.
The funny thing was during the time they didn't cancel my account, I had negative things about HA written all over my company profile. They didn't do anything to block this.
We used them because of their misleading commercials three times. Every time some fast-talking know-it-all showed up and proclaimed they could do the job for a certain fee which we agreed to pay. Every time the three different men did not complete the work correctly and charged MORE than they estimated. We did a lot of online research after being burned and are convinced the site is owned and operated by the workers who have every incentive to lie and claim that they are honest and perform to expectations. NO! Do not believe the BS. Thrice burned, now we've learned.
They will relentlessly call you. $348 yearly fee to join AND they charge you for every lead that they send to you- regardless of whether or not those leads actually hire you. Stick with Google and Yelp:-)
Needed my cabinets refaced and he was very professional, on time, and did a fabulous job. Couldnt be happier!
Wanted to get my kitchen cabinets stripped & retained. Got two phone calls from painting companies. First company came out, measured and then went back to office to prepare a bid. The next day company called to ask if they could send another person out to take more measurements. Never heard another word. Second company I hired did not include the price of replacing hinges (I was too stupid I guess to realize that would be a separate job), workmanship was mediocre (I have a lot of re-staining to do) and when I contacted them to report the cabinet doors had shifted and were mis-aligned they never showed up. Very unprofessional (both companies) and I should have been suspicious when I went out on Home Advisor and saw nothing below a 4.5 in every review (for different companies and different projects)!
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
