The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

HomeAdvisor essentially pushed Hiller on me for my electric project, even though others were rated higher. HomeAdvisor called me and connected me to Hiller. Hiller tech was almost two hours late and charged a lot for the job. I would never consult HomeAdvisor again or use Hiller.
DO NOT USE HomeAdvisor PRO. They lie and help themselves to your money. We signed up for this service in February. We were sold by a girl named Olivia, we were under the impression we would be working directly with her.
We were surprised when we were directed to an 800 number where we were on hold for an HOUR and fifteen minutes before talking to a person about the charges on our account. Olivia had told us we would only receive leads from verified homeowners and the cost was normally $60 dependant on the service.
We set up our account and the leads we received were not real. We had numbers that were wrong, services we didn't offer, and locations we didn't reach. We even had a lead, that when Googled, was DEAD. The leads were also $100+!
We tried to cancel after a month and the guy said he'd give us a refund and give us five free leads. He told us they were starting a new "opportunity" service where we only accept the leads we're interested in and are charged when the homeowner accepts the match. We thought it sounded a bit better so we stuck it out.
We just discovered our card has been charged for leads we didn't even get! I called customer service and this "lovely" gal named Brandi told us she was the supervisor and as high as we could go. She kept interrupting me and wouldn't listen to a thing I said when I tried to explain that we shouldn't have had our card charged. She kept saying they don't refund leads and they don't guarantee them and we should know that. She told us if we didn't want to be charged we should turn our leads off. They have been off for months! She refused to do anything even when we said we wanted to close our account.
We've started disputes with our credit card company and will be looking into all avenues to prevent this corrupt business from stealing from any other small business owners.
These people prey on small business that are starting up in less then 3 weeks I was robbed out of 2000 or more dollars when I called customer service and employee yelled at me and told me that I agreed which I did not agree to be scammed and receive false leads they only care about u when they are trying to get business
Home Advisor is a scam. My sales rep never told me i would get billed for every lead they send to you. BY TEXT EMAIL OR PHONE, whether they are a match or not or if a customer has mis labeled their request for a service. My Sales rep Diana Lobo never told me this. I recorded all her phone calls and all my calls with other staff at home advisor. Make a note you have 3 YES just 3 days to cancel your subscription and get your money back. Home advisor wanted to charge me 91.00 for a lead to plug in a HDMI cable from a customer, How do i charge the customer 200.00 to do that. I wouldn't feel morally right charging 200.00 to plug in a HDMI cable. If you are thinking of joining Home advisor as a pro. DONT.
If you are a Pro who has been duped by Home Advisor with misinformation and outrageous fees and would like to start a class action lawsuit against them send me your contact info and lets get them! Ross Daisomont *******@live.com
I gave home advisor a shot and did use one of the companies through their website. The guy I hired did a good job. The problem was with home advisor constantly calling me afterwards. I explained I dont want a call as IM busy. If they want a review, email me, dont keep calling. I finally got pised off at one lady who told me "its in our terms of service" so we call call you. I told her thats good to know because Im never using home advisor again.
Tried this site to help find a company to do a bathroom remodel. I had 3 companies come and and picked one. The job was done with such poor quality I'm not sure how HomeAdvisor decides who to send. I thought they had some way for determining quality. But they don't and they don't get involved once the job starts. On my next project I used friends and family word of mouth and had much better results.
Be aware and look at all the reviews, they tell you things you want to hear. There really is no point is giving this scam artist money as the jobs you get you will either have to work them to pay off the leads not profit and that is if you are lucky enough to even land a lead. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCAM ARTIS.
Tried to sign up with HomeAdvisor and they advised me because of my last name I cannot sign up with them because people with my same last name owes them money I can pass any background check I'm license my business can pass any credit check but they said it's because of my last name I think that's very discriminating
The quality they screen for and provide is a joke. Home Depot labor would have been better. I could have given power tools to monkeys and got the same results.
CONTRACTORS BEWARE! I signed up with HomeAdvisor after multiple predatory phone calls FROM THEM. I was ignorant and didn't read about them. It cost me $250.00 to sign up and I was billed $575.00 for leads that I never contacted. I found out after 4 weeks that they were billing me each time they texted, regardless if the job is a match for my company. I'm out $815.00 and didn't get a single job. If I had wait till next month to call them I'd be out another $1000. 00 minimum. THIS IS A SCAM!
The leads that they send are not vetted. Some leads won't return your call. Other leads are just in the planning or budgeting phase not really interested in a real project. Some leads are not related to your business. You cannot get a real person to get issued a credit. Some leads I paid $75 dollars and it was like flushing money down the toilet. Their automated answering system denies virtually all inquires for refunds. Absolutely worst investment I made in my business. Don't make the same mistake that I did. Stay away from this rip off scheme.
Onique Ortega Is the person who kept calling us and Emailing us 24/7 to get us into her useless company! After we decided to join Home Advisor, she only told us we were going to pay three hundred and som just so sign up, she never explained how it actually worked she stated a whole different thing! She told us that we would ONLY get charged once the lead accepted our offer! Bull$#*!! Home Advisor would send us leads everyday long and charged for every single one and some where from services we didnt even provided like gutter cleaning? And we were still getting charged for every single one! Out of nowhere we owed Home Advisor $1,132 and the leads he sends are garbage people dont even own their properties! Its so disappointing to us! We so much regreat having to work with this ppl! Onique Ortega NEVER EVER AGAIN did she answered our calls or emailed us back EVER! Why not get back to us? We were so confused because she never explained since the begging how it actually worked she NEVER told us we were able to stop the leads or paus the acc ect. So we had so many questions on why we were been charged everytime! I personally called a different number to get transferred to her and thats the only way she got to talk to me, i told her if that was how the program was going to work than we needed to cancell she was no help! She said she was going to pause it and she never did and here we are left with no money on our bank for our rent because of her miscommunication! I hate this company and I hate ONIQUE ORTEGA! I hope youre never left with no rent money on the bank and have no idea why!

As a contractor, HomeAdvisor's sales person told us they had 20-30 leads in our area and in our line of work, but no contractors to send the leads to. Not true. We received 0-1 leads per month and usually had to apply for a credit because the leads were not applicable to our business. Regardless of the number of leads, HomeAdvisor also charges a yearly subscription of $287 (non-refundable). We cut our losses cancelled the subscription at the end of the term. The latest irritant (and what prompted me to write this review) is that they will not stop calling to try and get our business back. They call our land lines and cellphones. I have repeatedly requested to be removed from their Call List. Bottom line: I would not recommend them to anyone. They are pushing a bad service.
I have used this service for many years, since they were Service Magic, when I recently caught them sending me leads that had already been sent to other contractors 30 minutes earlier i was told it was because i was not signed up to receive every lead and it took time for the computer to separate them, so after agreeing to upgrade my service they flooded me with old leads, I then turned them off for 90 days but when I gave them a second chance they did the same thing again, It saddens me to see what this long term relationship has come to
A customer care adviser hung up on me and then stated in their notes that I had disconnected the line when I was waiting for accounts receivable's phone number. In addition, when I decided to chat online I was told it would take 8 business days for a supervisor to call me. I was put on hold for over 1 hour. I would not recommend home adviser for any home professional services provider and the leads that they provide are not always legit. When you do want to suspend your account they will do so for a max of 3 months at a time and I've had several occasions where they "forgot" to freeze my account. When I did cancel my account all my credits were cancelled on the account and I was told to pay the full balance. Simply put, a business that strong arms you to stick with them or you will pay.
I am not sure where to start since I find the way Homeadvisor targets small business owners shameful. For example when I realized that the leads where not worth the price the Homeadvisor reps refused to cancel my membership and instead just suspended it for a length of time. They only finally canceled when I called in to complain about a large unauthorized sum the debited out of my bank account, which they refuse to reimburse. I have had to file a dispute in hopes to get the problem resolved
I am a contractor fake customers cant contact them charged for leads and no contact numbers on and on
I was on a crucial deadline for yard work and made the mistake of going to Home Advisors - they made promises, provided a joke of a "range" of an estimate, which varied by over 500%, and then promised I would get a call from the service provider - when it didn't happen I tried to get in touch with Home Advisor without success - then I finally got a call the last drop-dead project day only to hear they never were able to reach the promised yard service company - "SORRY" -
Why on earth would anyone contact someone via the internet for a contractor when
They could conceivably use the same apparatus to search for the same on their own?
As a former contractor under HomeAdvisor I can tell you we were never asked questions regarding our business, past or present. So forget the idea that your dealing with a reputable contractor and the service you think your getting for free is not free at all. The charges are made to the contractor who in turn charges you the additional amount on you final bill. Trust me this is not the way to find the help you need or to expand your client base as a contractor.
I used Home Advisor to hire a "handyman." The person I hired, was to perform two jobs and quoted a $250 fee over the phone. On Apr. 30,2018, he arrived and told me he couldn't perform on of the jobs we discussed. I then asked if he would reduce the $250 fee since it was based on doing the two jobs. He said NO, and proceeded to hang the kitchen wall cabinet. He is dishonest, unethical and should not be listed on Home Advisor's website. His "receipt" was handwritten on a piece of loose leaf paper and listed the two jobs he was to complete and a total received of $250, with his "initials" scribbled on the bottom. Very unprofessional and certainly not the type of person I, or anyone else, should/would hire again. On Apr. 30, I immediately contacted Home Advisor and spoke to Justin and told him my experience. He assured me he would forward my comments to their Consumer Resolution Dept. and someone would contact me within 8/10 business days. More than two weeks went by, and no one contacted me. I again called on or about May 15 and spoke to another rep who told me he could find no record of my speaking to anyone on Apr. 30 but assured me once again he would forward my comments to the Cons. Res. Dept. Two weeks later, on May 29, I again heard from no one at Home Advisor and spoke to Amanda. She transferred me to the Consumer Resolutions Dept. and I was advised they could do nothing for me or arrange to have a partial refund issued. Home Advisors is as bad as the handyman they listed on their website and whom I hired. He is dishonest, and Home Advisors is unreliable and apparently doesn't care about their customers or their feedback. I'll stick to using Angie's List; I've never had a problem with them. Beware of Home Advisors and people listed on their website. Scam artists, all!
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
