The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

We joined HomeAdvisor about a month ago. When we joined we were told about "leads" and that they were optional or we could just pay a annual fee and be on their site. "Leads" are potential jobs that are sent to 3 or 4 professionals. Each professional is charged for each lead whether you win the job or not. The fee ranges from $12 to $30. Per lead.
When we signed up we were told that the lead was sent to 1-2 professionals and we did not have to take leads, Not true! Leads are required, you can only temporarily suspend them and your fee is deducted automatically. We received 4 leads within 24 hours, 2 were not legit and were charged for the leads. We have also been charged for leads when our leads were suspended.
I have contacted Tim at HomeAdvisor 3 times in the last week to address this issue and he has NOT returned my calls. In his voice mail recording he states that he'll return the call within 24 hours. Not true.
Lastly if you cancel your account you don't get any kind of a refund.
Do Not sign up with this money hungry, dishonest company!
Most of their leads to contractors are fake. The people do not answer phone or emails then when they do about 75% of the time they they say they did not contact anyone named HomeAdvisor. Sometimes they say they had contacted Home Depot or Angies list etc or even home advisor a year ago. Of course HomeAdvisor charges your credit card anyway $60 per fake lead.
Now I got a letter "FINAL NOTICE" from them.
Previously My bank issued refunds for all disputes I open on their charges.
Now homeadvisor wants this money back, it' around $2K.
They did nothing to earn a penny from my pocket, only headaches.
I'M a contractor for installation services. In a 3 month they charged me $1700 for one customer i received. NO MONEY BACK. Hope my CC will do it.
Tried it for 2 months and then tried to cancel. I could never get a customer service rep on the phone (called 3 times with over a 45 min wait time each call). I kept "pausing my leads", a service they offer online but you can only pause them for 2 weeks. After that two week period you will get slammed with leads back to back while frantically trying to pause them again and sit on hold for 45 min to try and cancel your service. Total waste of $1300 and a complete scam.
Found PYRO Plus Construction on HomeAdvisor. Called Saturday morning, they (Eric and his Dad) came out and repaired our sliding glass door which was really hard to open and close. Took them about an hour. Now the door slides better then new. We have to watch so that we do not catch our fingers while closing the door.
All of the one star reviews are absolutely true. HA does not disclose need information, and in no way honors their word. It was such a headache for us that we closed our account. Rip offs! Rude! Liars! Horrible!
Patrick Goff told me put some pictures up, Make the page your own, and most importantly get reviews posted. I haven't paid for leads since i started up and its three months later and I've gotten ten thousand dollars worth of work just from them in that time. While Patrick is gold the majority of the rest of the customer service is garbage. It is frustrating at times and tough to understand how it works at first and really aggravating dealing with most of their customer service when you need them (luckily i just call patrick directly). Get them reviews and you will get that money. Most people expect (just like i did in the beginning) that when you sign up for it that its gonna be easier than it really is to win leads when paying for them. Focus on getting good reviews from previous customers or new customers. Adding a couple before and after photos to your page. AND NOT BUYING LEADS and you will be surprised when the phone starts ringing.
I needed a painter quickly and filled out the Home Advisor questionnaire stating I needed someone within a week, and that I wished to pay by credit card. They referred only one painter, a local company with good reviews and a website. The calendar showed openings from the following Monday on. It was unclear if they would come first for an estimate or just come, give a price, and if OK would do the job, which was not a huge job, but would become a large job which could mostly be scheduled later. From then on it was a mess because of lack of communication. As a result, we almost did not have a painter at the appointed time, even though we spent hours taking down items from wall and preparing. On top of that, they required a check, which we were not prepared for. The problem with not making it clear that company would not take a credit card was also a huge problem. The lack of clarity from Home Advisor and the fact that they referred someone that did not actually have anyone available for the time we needed, deserves a low rating to Home Advisor.
I come on to the site looking to have my roof looked at for leaks and got a call in just a few minutes from a young man from Triv construction letting me know they could meet me at 9 am sharp and when I told him he would have to bring all the paper work { state license, insurance, workmen's comp etc} with him he told me " no problem " well they came on time, nice new truck, and all paper work, within 10 minutes found several problems, took pictures, went over how they were going to proceed. They did a fine through job at what I thought was a reasonable price, all 3 men were polite and professional and I highly recommend this fine family owned company
I had an issue with a fireplace fan that stopped working. I used Home Advisor for a repairman. He was supposedly top rated. He came out and cleaned and re-lubed my fan and charged me $175.00. Within one week the fan stopped working. After two weeks of leaving phone messages, with no response, I contacted a local fireplace who who referred me to their repairman. He came out and said these fans cannot be repaired, but must be replaced. He charged me $75 plus the cost of the fan ($90). I would never use Home Advisor, but would, instead call a local company for referrals.
Home advisor recommended JB Contractor to come to my house and look at my sprinkler system. JB stood me up twice and when I wanted to leave a bad review. Home advisor told me they are not going to post it to the public because no services were done. I wasted an entire Saturday and Thursday afternoon eating for JB contractors to show up and home advisor wouldnt let me post a negative review. I would never do business with either again or attempt to do business I should say.
Homewood visor made all kinds of promises to get my $400 start up fee and then categorize me as the wrong category and refused to put me in the right category I will not do business with a company that makes promises and does not keep them! If youre smart youll stay far away from this company currently have a lawsuit if youre smart youll stay far away from this company currently have a lawsuit against them spiked say to California against them by the state of California
I own an 18 year old general contracting company. I tried HomeAdvisor on 2 different occasions all they did was charge my credit card $800 for Leads THAT WERE NOT REAL and went to peoples voicemails and never got a call back I canceled my account with them. I also own an 8 year old Air Conditioning business they did the exact same thing to me 2 times on the Air Conditioning business. DO NOT GIVE HOMEADVISOR YOUR MONEY THEY ARE A FRAUD! I gave them 3 chances and its the same thing every time. They Don't want to Refund your money either.
1st. Told me hundreds of customers awaited... got 6 in 2 months. None of which were useful
2nd. Requested credits... denied...
Basically it cost me about 60o bucks to figure out that they suck, and dont give a good god damn about anything but your money
Will not leave me alone... they call and harass me, when I tell them I'm not interested they get very rude and say I must not believe in advertising my business and so on... would never do any kind of business with these people...
Today my roof repair was completed. I can't say enough wonderful things about TBRC Roofing. Mike and Tyler were totally professional and very polite. The job was completed in a very timely manner ( day and a half). They also were very considerate of my budget. Thank you so much for a job well done.

I called to close my account after reading all the bad things they can do (use your name to sell leads, and charging for non closed leads) so I wanted to close my account. They then got mad and started saying how I wont make money, I don't know what I'm talking about, etc. Unprofessional company and these reviews show it!
I hired Jeff Nickell of JSN Restoration & Remodeling to perform construction work related to the safety of my family based upon a 5 star rating from HomeAdvisor. HomeAdvisor recommended JSN Restoration & Remodeling for my work project.
Jeff Nickell and I agreed upon a work proposal that he presented to me. I had to wait for a month before he could start the job, he told me. The day before the job was scheduled to be done, Jeff Nickell called me up and cancelled the job. He told me he was going out of town on family business and would get back to me the following week. He also told me that he would have his subcontractors call me to schedule the work he agreed to perform. Jeff Nickell never contacted me again, his subcontractors never contacted me and I was left holding the bag with a viga beam that supported my roof cracking and in jeopardy of collapsing, potentially causing injury or worse to my family and anyone visiting my home. I submitted a review to HomeAdvisor reflecting these facts and Home Advisor removed it from their site because I hadn't given Jeff Nickell any money yet. How could I give him money when he never showed up to do the job? HomeAdvisor is a self-serving business that has total disregard for the welfare of the gullible public that relies upon their advice for their hiring decisions. Home Advisor CANNOT BE TRUSTED.
The have you set up a membership and charge almost $300 for a year and then turn around and charge you for every lead they give you and take hundreds from your account even if you've just started your small business. But of course they DO NOT tell you that at the beginning. The leads they give you, don't even know that they charge and when you tell them they say they had no clue and will never call HomeAdvisor again. Their customer service is very unprofessional, it is the WORST! They are never willing to credit you even after you make several attempts to the customer or if the customer cancels and is not interested. If you're interested in a contractor, do not deal with HomeAdvisor they charge us contractors for you!
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
