HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I looked on the Website at HA and never used any of the services offered by their contractors for an air conditioning job. Since I simply looked on that site I have received at least 12 phone calls from contractors, none of whom I ever contacted myself. My privacy has been compromised. I would never hire a contractor who made a cold call to me. I want to be the person who initiates contact. I will never use their services again.
I no longer have an account with them, so there is no account number.

Fake Reviews
August 16, 2018

I hired a concrete construction company based on reviews from Home Advisor. They did a terrible job for me that cost $10,000. Driveway started crumbling and cracking within 2 months. Then I checked with BBB and they have F rating, same with Angies List... F. Contractors board said "do not use". Lesson here. DONT USE HOMEADVISOR. They just want to sign up contractors for $300 and get money from leads they send them. They dont give a rip about the quality or integrity of the contractor. I wrote a bad review for the contractor and it was altered by someone somewhere. Now this unscrupulous company Jr. Concrete, Portland, Or is listed again with glowing reviews so he can continue to rip other people off. Its been over 2 years and he will not fix it.

I got several bogus leads throughout my time with home advisor and several that had nothing to do with my business. I finally decided to cut their services and I have $200 in credit for leads that they billed me for incorrectly and their response was "we can't give you your money back but we can give you more leads." How can you take money out of my account by accident but not be able to put it back on purpose? Emphasis on my money.

Dissatisfied
August 12, 2018

In the beginning Home Advisor was great. They listened to customers like me who is a small window cleaning business trying to make a living and they understand that if a lead is a no go for example customer cancels the work because they changed their minds, home advisor would give credit for that lead because I didn't make any money from it. Now that they've got big and more clients, they won't give credits for any reason. Customer service reps are rude like you're old news. If I didn't have a contract with them, I'd quit them already and do my own advertising it would be a lot better than paying for a lead that didn't come through due to no fault of my own. In my opinion Home Advisor got greedy and since they've grown in clientel, they raised membership dues in drastic amount and poorer customer service experience. I rate them a 2. Hopefully this review will open up some eyes at cooperate level and start focusing on customer first philosophy because at the end that's what's going to matter most because of competition.

I tried home advisor, despite having no need. Thinking good leads would be nice... wrong.
Every "lead" was a waste of my time.
I lost about $300 before I stopped the bleeding.
NOW, years later, I keep getting calls from these doucheggs which always start with a lie!
Today, the latest liar (said her name was Kathleen) called under the guise of having "several homeowners who need (insert your trade here) work done right now in (insert your city here)" and, "can you handle more business" or "can you take care of my leads"
I explained that HA didn't work for me, please stop calling, and hung up. This idiot, Kathleen, called right back to disrupt my business, again!

Where do I send my bill? Every time I take their BS, lying call I should be compensated. They have my cell phone number! They should call my office, but nope! They find it necessary to interrupt my business.

Please send $100/call. These people owe me about $2000.

DO NOT USE... EVER
August 10, 2018

We went on for a quote for someone to look at work needed for our house. 20 min later a company just shows up demanding money without us even knowing who they were or what they were going to charge. No email beforehand with up to 4 options for contractors, no bids or contracts... nothing. Everything that is stated on their website is a complete lie. Their customer service was horrific and when we asked to be transferred to corporate to put in a compliant we were disconnected. Do not even go on their website! This company is scamming it's customers.

Burned Contractor
August 9, 2018

Signed up for $288.00 several days ago. My leads were supposed to be for a 10 mi. Radius around my zip code. First lead was 60 mi. Away. Out of the 4 emails I got while they were trying to get my business, after 3 days not one can help me now that they have the money. And even worse, somehow the day after I signed up with them I started getting BOMBARDED with email spam trying to hook me into other things. Terrible Business!

The arbitration referred by HomeAdvisor to fair claims is an underhand plot only to benefit contractors, as to avoid claims out of court filed in respect of other party.

HomeAdvisor cannot make money without the contractors so it's apparent that they will make you go through the process of a bogus arbitration hoping claimant will draw away from the process. But, when you stay with it soon after they'll put an end to it in favor of their own other party.

Despite the evidence to the contrary, the arbitrator would still rule in favor of the opposing party only because I didn't have a witness. This is not an opinion it's fact.

Dishonest cheats
August 2, 2018

Home advisor cheats contractors thinking that they wont realize things since most contractors are blue collar workers. They cheat you in paying for leads who are unresponsive. Today a represenative told me that different rules for credit were different based on accounts.

Dissapointed
August 1, 2018

I submitted request regarding my landcaping grading project. After reviewing their suggested companies sent an inquiry to 5 companies. Not a single one contacted me. Clearly everyone is too busy for the business. Then I called home advisor customer service asking to resend me the list of these companies so I can contact them myself. Representative couldn't resend them to me. Just wow.

Scam scam scam
July 28, 2018

This company is a rip off from start to finish. They charge you a fee to even start the program. Then charge you every time they send a "lead" regardless of if the lead answers the phone, is just shopping around or already books a contractor before you have even called. A complete and utter waste of money. You are better off making flyers and putting them on mail boxes. Do not fall for their scam like I did!

Silence
July 28, 2018

I have contacted several contractors through Home Advisor. They come to my home, look at my project and I never hear from them again. No estimates or sorry but we can't help you, nothing. Very poor and unprofessional customer service. I've had better luck just googling for help. I don't believe the reviews that are listed on Home Advisor are legit.

I used Angies list for the search and was giving HoneAdvisor results. Base on the high rating on home advisor. I hired Fixit plumbing to do two projects for me( repiping and bathroom remodel).

This is a rental and one of the criteria for hiring them is that they are available and get the project done right away (2 weeks was the estimate). Both projects took longer (3 tines longer).

I was lucky that the new tenant went on vacation and bought me 12 extra days to complete the work. The work was literally done the day before the tenant show up. I end up spending most of the night cleaning since itt too late to arrrange for cleaning people to come.

Also the final result is 95% complete. I have been trading texts for a month now and they still have not come out to complete/fix the work ( missing trim on the shower).

Toward the end of the project, they start to push back saying they cannot install/replace the light in the shower since they are not electrician and they cannot put the shower door in (they dont know how). In the end, the tile guy did the work but it wAs very stressful for me since the project is already delayed and my tenant is coming.

Cleanup is also very poor. I spend hours clean the glue and grout off the tiles and pick trash up in my yard.

Signed up with homeadvisor because a sales person from their offices called me and said there was an overflow of work in my area. I decided to give it a try because work was slowing down a bit.

DO NOT SIGN UP!

They charge astronomically for their leads, their leads are mediocre at best, and the refund process is nill.

I paid $300 for a year membership and now after a month of being dissatisfied, they say too bad.

Not worth it!

CONTRACTORS BEWARE!
July 26, 2018

I am a "pro" (contractor), who signed up for HomeAdvisors lead service. I was initially told the leads would cost anywhere from $20 - $45 a lead, but they were prescreened, valid leads. After 30 days of no calls, but a charge of almost $300 to my credit card, I called to cancel. Turned out the initial person who set up my account put me in the wrong zip codes (300 miles away). The Cust Svc rep was nice enough, and corrected the zip codes, and the leads began, but were more to the tune of $72! Again, I called, and complained that was not was communicated to me. They just apologized and said that was their formula. Like an idiot I continued with them. Then when I figured out they were billing me for leads that were bogus I hit the roof! I had 5-6 leads a month, that were either people just kicking tires, couldn't reach them or get them to call back, wanting a bunch of estimates but weren't ready, or for work that was not my listed specialty. None of these jobs were won, or any work (or money) received. When I called and questioned these charges, the "Customer Service" lady was very snide, and just said matter of factly, "Well, theres no refund for those, you win some, you lose some. We have no way of controlling that. Hopefully, you are closing more than 30%" -WAIT... WHAT!?!?! I asked to speak with a supervisor, and was told it would be 8-12 DAYS before they contacted me back. DAYS! So now these jack@$$e$ are over a $1000 into my pocket in about a months time. They are not very forthcoming with their information.
Shame on me for not asking better questions up front...

I was looking for someone to do some work in my home, and thought I'd try HomeAdvisor. None of the categories available were suitable for what I wanted and I wanted to leave an email letting them know. But no way to do it. I guess HomeAdvisor isn't interested in what their users have to say about their website.
