The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

DO NOT sign up, once they get your credit card info, you are stuck, they send you worthless leads and charge you for them, you pay or go to collection.
I was lied to from the very beginning regarding the cost of leads. Tried to cancel my account and these jack-wagons wouldn't stop sending me fake leads. Pathetic, don't walk away, RUN! If I could have given Zero stars I would have.
Home Adviser for job leads. They charged me for leads I never even contacted or even spoke to. Do not waste your money on their service. The couple of people I did speak to were just curious what a job would cost but weren't even ready to start a project and yes you will still have to pay home adviser for that lead.
. Home advisor's contact estimate for a job of over $700.00 was easily replaced by another more local company by $250.00. This for garden work. We were, and continue to be bugged by phone calls from all kinds of their people that we never contacted.
This has to be the worst sham of a business I have ever had the experience of working with in my entire life! My disabled father of 55 years old wanted me to put him on home advisor after he claimed they would help him get jobs. I started him an account with a sale woman who did not clearly explain to me the process at all! She told me to just say "yes" to the recordings that played, and now they say that I consented to their awful business model. I did not accept any leads at all and got 0 work from Home Advisor and yet have a bill worth over $1000. I am fuming in anger right now after spending hours upon hours on the phone with this company. I have spoken to soooo many "supervisors" only to be told they are unable to help out my situation. I did not use your service at all! I did not request my $250 sign up fee as I know that I did sign up willingly for a service. No I did not understand the service because of a lying salesperson. I should not be liable for nearly $1,000 in over due balance because of trying to help out my father with special needs. They even were crooked in the back ground check asking to use mine instead of my fathers, they made up customer reviews of our business that were not verified in any way! I have never in all my life had an experience that I felt so ripped and robbed and screwed over like this service! I have still been on hold to reach yet another supervisor the entire time I have been writing this review. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR. I own a very successful restaurant business with multiple locations and will forever tell my employees and customers how terrible an experience Home Advisor was. I just cannot believe a company this crooked can remain in business.
Contacted Home Advisors online to get a couple of estimates to do a small insulation job at my condo. Immediately got three phone calls from three different handyman services and explained the scope of my project. All three were interested in coming to see the job and give me a quote. Since I do not live at the condo, I made the appointments for all three to visit on the same day, different times. I called each one the day before the appointment to confirm the appointments giving full address and phone number AGAIN, spoke with two directly and left a voicemail for the third. All three were no shows and to further add insult to injury, nor did they bother to call. Were they lost, running late... WTF, have no idea but if this is an indication of the type of companies Home Advisors advocates for, no thanks. I wasted a day waiting for men who have no integrity.
Most leads are false and they do not give a credit back. I have had leads tell me they did not do anything on HomeAdvisor; their work was done months ago; or there is never a response from lead via phone, text, email. They will only give credit back if number is disconnected AND email is returned. Most of the leads they give now are people who do not even own the home as they are price checking on homes they wish to buy and do work on. Stipulation used to be you had to be the home owner. Terrible company that just steals your hard earned money!
I tried HomeAdvisor and noticed we were incompatible.
According to HomeAdvisor's Return Policy you have 72 hours to change your mind. It been three months since asking for my refund, and HomeAdvisor is still sending me leads outside of my service area. Not one of my leads have been inside my service area.
1. The website platform is very difficult to navigate (I looked for almost an hour trying to change my service area before I found out you have to call HomeAdvisor during regular working hours to change my service area). When I signed up, I was completely clear about my service area.
2. You have no control over your service area.
3. They charge you for leads you do not get.
4. They send you leads from service areas outside your service area.
5. They promise much but delivers nothing.
Complete waste of time and money.
Stay away from this company there a joke like to lie alot to your face heck with them I will be calling my lawyer soon
In a world of thieves, scammers, these guys are a perfect example of no INTEGRITY and dishonesty, referred me to a Shuster named Scott with all co. Pools, BEWARE don't go there Scott don't know Squat!
"Stephanie" called our company and asked to speak with the owner... I explained he was in a meeting and I could take a message and have him call her back and asked what it was in regards to. Stephanie explained she had a large water loss and needed someone to come out and help. I told her I handled the first step and needed to get some information from her so I could pass along to him. She said great and when I asked for an address and a phone number just in case we got disconnected, she hung up. Luckily, I was on lunch and the call was forwarded to my cell so I got the number she called from *******348. I called her back and no answer, it went to voice mail. I noticed that it sounded like a call center so I googled the phone number. It was HomeAdvisor. Stephanie lied, wasted my time, and I almost missed an actual customer's call. That's 3 companies in Austin that will never use HomeAdvisor ever. That is not a way to handle business. We declined using HomeAdvisor long ago and they are still calling trying to get in touch with the owner even after the owner told them no.
What a scam! Listed my services as only being available Monday-Friday. I was receiving calls day and night seven days a week, and they were charging me each time they called me. I attempted to fix that but the problem continued. WORST PROBLEM. THEIR CUSTOMERS EXCEPT FREE WORK! I got a job from Homeadvisor, went on the service call, fixed the problem, I charged my regular service call fee and the customer threw the check at me and swore at me. He expected a free service charge. He then left a review of my business but neglected to say he expected free services. It's been a year now since I deactivated my account with them and they just charged me $300 for yearly membership.
In the year that I have had an account with Home Advisor they have provided 19 leads (my account had leads shut off for about 8 months of the year). Of those 19 leads only 6 of them were ready to proceed with the work, or 31.6%. My company has paid Home Advisor over $1,500 in a year to get leads that were less than one third qualified. We are a small company and cannot afford to pay an average of almost $85 per lead, of which only one third are viable.
This company started off as a reliable and affordable lead sourcing program. They began "harvesting" forms from various sites, including AngiesList (which they have now bought). Just because someone "searches" a directory, does not mean they wish to be matched immediately.
They used to charge a reasonable price... and they used to match you with people that were REALLY seeking a lead. They were clearly told "Would you like to be connected with pros in your area?".
They charge 3 or more "pros" over $50 per lead... even when the service itself only generates $50 for the contractor IF they win the bid.
They charge you 350$ to be a member then charge you 50$ anytime you get a number whether it's a good one or not, wish I would have looked a reviews first would have never done business with them
Tried to use Home Adviser for job leads. They charged me for leads I never even contacted or even spoke to. Do not waste your money on their service. The couple of people I did speak to were just curious what a job would cost but weren't even ready to start a project and yes you will still have to pay home adviser for that lead.
Heres REALITY with Home Scumbag Advisors. These guys are Parasites. With theyre Hand in my Checking Account. They send me WRONG leads. Charge my account... Then Im hold with customer service for almost ONE HOUR, ( 3 to 4 times a week on wrong leads) and they ( Might Issue a Credit in TEN DAYS) I have More work from my commercial accounts and reviews on Google. So I Dumped Them This year. Still booked a Month in advance! Im Also 5 Star Rated in Home Advisor AND Google. But I DUMPED THEM FOR LIFE! I have 5 friends in different trades that used HA. They ALL felt Robbed! By Home Advisor!
Worst decision I ever made they take your initiation fee of $280 and then they keep on charging you for bad leads talk about a drain on a business do not use zero stars
As someone who only began working for them for 1 week, I was charged $700+ for work that I didn't even do. Stay away from this company.
Home advisor contacted me and we set up a membership that was $350. They said they would give me $250 in free leads. Their definition of a lead is not what mine is. I would think that if I'm to pay $75-$125 per lead than It should be a valid screened arrangement. First lead I got was a good one so I was happy ($118). 2nd lead I got (30 minutes later) was a wrong number, invalid email ($75) I got concerned. 3rd lead I got was a phone call and email sent that was never returned. ($75). First day 3 leads 1 good, 2 bad $262 total. Don't be deceived they don't screen leads and will throw you any number they want and charge you for it. Its a scam. They act like its your fault that you can't turn bad leads into sales but for the money they charge shouldn't they have to sell good leads only? I hope the one good lead pans out or I'm literally out $362 dollars for nothing quickly. The customer service people are nice at least but you can tell from the way they speak that they deal with unhappy people ALOT.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
