The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I had to cancel my membership with Home Advisor in less than a month. I was told that I would be notified of a match (to a potential customer) then I had to call them to discuss the job and make the sale. I knew I would be charged for each lead whether it turned into a job or not. What they lied about, is that I never got to call ANY of the leads. The phone number they send you is to their call center and every lead has a different "extension". You make the call put in the extension and EVERY SINGLE ONE had a recording that the number was not available so I left messages. Then, I sent texts, then emails. I never got returned calls. I complained to customer service and was told that they would change the settings so I wouldn't have to go through the call center and I would get their actual phone numbers so I can call the lead directly. That was another lie. Multiple leads later with the same results, I called to complain again. I was told the same thing. As it turned out, it was a lie again. I got two leads the next day which went exactly as all the others. I called to cancel the membership again and got the same manager. She hung up on me. I called right back and asked for her specifically and she wouldn't get on the phone. I left a message to cancel my account and told them that I was calling my credit card company to dispute the charges and that I wouldn't pay them a dime. I called the CC company and was told that they have had to do research on HA because they are getting multiple calls like mine. Finally another person called from HA because I responded to an email survey of theirs with one star and that it was an awful company. I told her I would not be paying for a service that I did not receive. She said it will be forwarded to a collections agency.
I have used Home Advisor a few times with mixed results in satisfaction with who they recommended. One person came unprepared with the tools he would need for tree trimming and asked to borrow mine. He also relieved himself in a bush in my front yard.
I used a appliance repair company. When I found out the outrageous price to fix a appliance I told him I'd do it my self. He then still charged me close to $100.00 for " traveling fees". With the help of YouTube I did the repair for 75% percent less then what he wanted but was still at a $100.00 loss to pay someone who just drove his repair truck to my house. HomeAdvisor would not post my review because they said I didn't use the repair service.
What this company does can not be legal.
It maybe good for the homeowner but I think if you talk with any contractor it would be a different story.
They will send out three or more contractors to a home owner and never letting these them know that we are paying crazy amounts of money to these scammers.
They lead them to believe that everything is FREE.
They have literally taken over the Internet so that the small guy has no choice but to go through them. Then we pay anywhere from $75.00- $150.00 and may never even be able to reach anyone.
From what I understand, they are under a class action lawsuit of some kind.
From all the money charged to contractors from deceptive practice, they will be able to pay for skilled and crooked representation.
This could just go on and on, but just go to youtube to see much more about the unscrupulous practices of Home Advisor.
I have been trying for almost 18 months to get back $493 in lead fees. We signed up with HA 2 weeks prior to Hurricane Harvey and had not received any leads up to that point. Late Saturday night when Houston started to flood, we started having set appointment emails coming in. I called customer service to "turn us off" due to the catastrophic events taking place with ABSOLUTELY no means to making these appointments the next day since the city was flooded. Guess what... their offices are open ONLY 8-5 M-F! The offer no support after normal business hours. They told me on Monday that I "should have" logged in to our account to turn off our leads. Problem was, the login information was not available. So here we are almost 18 months later and they still have my $493! They credited the lead fees back to my account to apply to future leads, but will not refund the money. I have talked to supervisors... no luck. This company is horrible, lacks customer service, will not take "no" for an answer when they make yet another sales pitch to get you back on the program, they are not a good "partner" to use their term. Save your money and yourself the headache by staying far, far, far way from Home Advisor.
HomeAdvisor is underhanded and has only their own cash flow at heart, instead of protecting other potential customers in the future from a scumbag hired pro... I will not be using them again...
After getting outrageous quotes from other flooring companies I came across Masterpiece Flooring through Home Advisor. Was interested in installing vinyl planking in the downstairs area of my townhome. After calling Willy at Masterpiece, he personally came by to give us a very reasonable quote and date he could do the installation. They also picked up the flooring for us prior to the installation, great customer service! They disposed of existing flooring and completed the new flooring (one person) in about 6 hours. The workmanship is awesome and we couldn't be more satisfied with the finished product. Mahalo Masterpiece, would recommend your services to anyone.
Homeadvisor will take advantage of your small business. They over charge you for leads and will not work with you when you dispute charges. You will not get to talk to supervisors, you will get sent to collections. Home owner do not understand that when they click buttons to get information about jobs, contractors get charged outrageous amounts for the "lead". Save your money, save your time, stay away from this awful company.
I have been with Home Advisor for years! It did work sometimes but most leads are duds. I call my leads as fast as I can and many times if they even answer the phone they have hired someone else or are price shopping. I also suspect many of these leads are not getting to my phone quickly. This company has cost me hundreds of dollars every month with very little return. I think I need to quit this company they are about to break me! The cost for these leads keep going up and up! Something is not right!
This company needs to be exposed for their crookedness! They should also be sued!
When our sprinkler system zone controls, after 20 plus years of service, finally broke down, I contacted Home Advisor. Within minutes, literally, I received a call from AFFORDABLE SERVICES. I would be remiss, indeed, were I not to being to your personal attention the professionally excellent service I received from Mark, their technician. He was knowledgeable, courteous and made a concerted and successful effort to correct the problem. This was my first use of Home Advisor referrals but as a direct result of my experience with AFFORDABLE SERVICES, it certainly won't be my last.
This business needs to be taken down already, it is a scam to small companies, every lead that my business got was not in our service area; and unseen leads were still charged, the prices are ridiculous, and it is super hard to get a start with this app, around $300 annually and $20 per lead, whether you interact with the lead or not
Don't waster your money with them, they will rip you off no matter what.
They'll sell you information of people that will never pick up their phone, nor will never respond to your email, that means that whatever home advisor charged your credit card for a potentially new client means that you'll never get that in return.
It's a SCAM!
I spent more then $10k with those liars and got almost nothing in return, when you call their customer service they'll just tell you that they going to investigate about that person that won't pick up the phone, and then you'll get an email saying that you're ineligible for credit, to make a long story short it's bull$#*!
Of the leads I have received, a high percentage of leads can not be reached. At first I thought it was strange a consumer would go to the trouble of submitting a request then not be available, by any means. I am beginning to think I am receiving leads that are made up by HomeAdvisor.
When I have called them out on some of these to seek a credit, I seldom get the results I expect.
To be fair, I have received a few leads that have been legitimate and I have sold many of those, but this is nearly outweighed by the cost of the bogus ones. In my opinion, my association with HomeAdvisor is not sufficiently profitable.
If you have electrical problems, call J. F. Electrical, *******194. We had serious issues with furnace, microwave and stove coming on all the time and no one could find out what was wrong. J. F. Came during the arctic freeze, and he found out the solution and took care of it. We had called some well known companies to no avail. But J. F. came to our rescue, thank you thank you thank you an elderly couple in Hydes
We are a smaller family owned company and they are miserable to deal with if you are not able to babysit them charging you. If I had been able to monitor every single charge made on our five cards attached to our CC's then I would have noticed that we had been charged inappropriately over $500 the past three months. I just assumed they would be doing what is right by the contractor. The app they have does not allow you to cancel your account, and when it comes to trying to get them on the phone as a contractor... GOOD LUCK! Been holding almost 30 minutes and still havent been able to speak with anyone.
Customers looking for professionals do not understand, when you put in a home advisor request it is sent to 3 or so contractors (that home advisor is charging now 30+ dollars per contractor). The contractor is under HUGE pressure to be constantly attached to his phone and answering leas instead of actually focusing on his product.
After years with home adviser, receiving leads, some good and some false, at the beginning they sent me good but now lot of false leads
We should have a way to file a lawsuit against home adviser
You have to pay for leads even if they are bogus, or if the person already got someone. If you don't put it on pause, they send you about 6-8 leads a day (or more, depending on your specialty and area), charging over 20 dollars per lead, so you spend as much as you make.
HOME ADVISOR IS USING MY COMPANY NAME TO STEAL MY POSSIBLE CLIENTS. THAT IS THEFT. SECONDLY, HOME ADVISOR, HIRES PEOPLE WITH CLEAN RECORDS HOWEVER, DO YOU THE NAMES AND RECORDS OF ALL WHO COME TO YOUR HOUSE TO WORK? NO YOU DONT, THANK YOU.
THIRDLY, YOUR SAFETY IS JEOPARDIZED THE MINUTE HOMEADVISOR SENDS A / OR PERSON(S)TO YOUR HOME THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE INFORMATION ON.
Well, evidently home advisor really doesn't provide advise and referrals on service professionals. The minute you have a bad experience they are very quick to point out that they only do back ground checks, etc. and really don't do anything to vet their recommended "professionals" before referring them. Luckily my wife realized the guy was a complete joke and had no idea what he was doing. She told him to leave before it cost us more than just the minimum service call amount. Despite all of the details about the lack of knowledge from the service person and the fact that she kept correcting him about his job, Home Advisor will only do anything about this if their was either an incident or damage during the visit. Referring someone that actually knows nothing about what they are their to do doesn't qualify with Home Advisor as a problem.
As a contractor I know companies like Home Advisor will try to get us to join their network.
I listened to what they had to offer and we were just not interested.
After that it has been nothing but harassment for over a year.
Every time I update the so called sign up page which I never did which allows contractors to change certain notifications, the agent just goes in and changes it back to what he wants.
I've sent emails replying back stating to remove me from their list permanently but again here come the emails.
Home Advisor needs to take a class in respect and the word NO, NO really does mean NO.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
