HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I was told by Home Advisor that they would advertise my company under Water purification specialist, Under TDLR and TCEQ rules I'm qualified with my Water well driller and Pump Installer License in the state of Texas. However Home Advisor told me it would take a different license and that they can not and will not advertise as promised as they follow protocol unknown to regulations. However they insist that I pay a years worth of advertising and Leads that don't have anything to do with my Job description or Business. I have submitted all necessary paperwork to prove my Qualification to no avail with Home Advisor. DO NOT Advertise with this company as it will only cost you dearly and the leads do not work nor the advertisement. Now they sent me notices for collection although they have not produced anything but empty promises.

Scam
March 6, 2019

They don't screen home owners putting leads through. Contractors get charged even when home owner puts request under wrong task. Horrible customer service inexperienced in the construction field. Home owners don't return calls on a majority of the leads received by the contractors. A contractor will work at a defecit trying to get customers through home advisor
9 out of 10 leads received will not return calls. $500 a week spent for 0% return on investment.
Absolutely the worst way to grow your business. Stay away if you're a contractor, painter, carpenter, home remodeler.
If you're a Home owner, word of mouth and social media local pages are a great way to find that qualified expert.
Good luck everyone.

Fyi= this program is bad for everyone. You will never get a great company to come and work on your home as a home owner... GOOD CONTRACTORS DONT NEED this program nor do they want to be accociated. SO TAKE THAT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. AS A HOME OWNER WHAT YOU WILL GET IS A BUNCH OF FIRST YEAR AND SECOND YEAR CONTRACTORS. No offense i was one until i decided the juice was not worth the squeeze. Being associated with them is like being a accomplice to murder. Ps sorry for spelling and caps i dont have time to change nor patients

I used Homeadvisor to look for contractors in Northwest Indiana to do some work at my house. I wanted an awning on the rear, some trees cut down, a generator, an addition and some cement work. Three tree guys contacted me, only one actually showed up in person to give a quote. He did a great job, the other two wouldn't return emails. Only one cement guy responded and he had horrible reviews. The awning company was horrible, left debris all over my yard, took several weeks to finish a job they said would be done in two days. The awning leaks and they didn't run it to the end of the house. Never got any responses for the addition. Two generator companies responded, only one showed up to give a quote. This company also said they did electrical work, when I contacted them to get a quote for electrical work, they never responded. A better name would be Home Illadvisor. I contacted homeadvisor about the reviews given to the companies that did bad work, they said they would investigate it and get back to me. They never did.

After reaching out to Home Advisor to check their prices we have been constantly harassed non stop every single week by a horrible agent! I have told him repeatedly we are not interested and to take us off the call list and today he did the same thing and he refused to stop asking why so I told him it was because he was a horrible agent with a bad attitude. He then started laughing and saying "Why? I just asked a question" so I told him I wanted to speak with a manager. He then started laughing again saying "whatever, you can totally talk to my manager but why?" so I told him because he has one of the worst f***ing attitudes of anybody I have ever talked to so I need to talk to a manager now. He once again laughed and said "what is the magic word". I admittedly blew up on him only to his enjoyment making him laugh saying that wasn't the right word and hung up and called corporate.

I needed a new roof for my home.
Was recommended to Alluring Homes Inc.
These guys were the most professional I have ever used for any repairs.
Very honest. The crew was so hard working.
So Impressed. If I could give a 10 star rating, I would.

Contractor Scam!
March 1, 2019

I own a general contracting business and have been in business for 12 years. Like any contractor we have some slow times through the year, so I decided to try home advisor. As this site may been convenient for customers looking for a contractor it is a nightmare and a scam for a contractor! First off contractors are not really screened as advertised, pretty sure they would take any contractors money, seams they really enjoy doing this. Second as it is free for the looker, every click they make a contractor is charged, and it is very difficult to get a refund on these. Also they never refund money they only give the contractor credits towards more clicks. In one week my company was charged $700 and I DID NOT get a single meeting from all of this money. PLEASE STOP USING THIS WEB SITE! If you need a quality contractor please just ask friends and family for recommendations and avoid this site.

We visited HomeAdvisor to find a reputable home cleaner. We found two, interviewed them, had them walk our house and each provide quotes. We went with the one that seemed more detail oriented (despite being higher priced) - we relied on the HomeAdvisor rating in selecting the two. We then scheduled the cleaner. The cleaner exceeded their time to clean by 3 times and still did not finish - instead they insisted on cash payment including reimbursement for their HomeAdvisor listing fee. They said they needed the payment because of one of their crew was leaving. We went upstairs, came down and they were gone. They literally sneaked out of our house. We contacted them to finish the third of the house they didn't finish and it was excuse after excuse after excuse. Shady, unprofessional is what HomeAdvisor delivered to us. We went to HomeAdvisor - after all, they stand behind who they recommend right? No way. They said they accept no responsibility and play no role in taking any recourse against any cleaner. So HomeAdvisor, Why should anyone use your misrepresented services? You may as well have a monkey through a dart at a list. HomeAdvisor is worse than useless as you rely upon them adding some value and they do not.

Home Advisor is a scam company. They advertise that they screen all contractors. They refered, Robert Giles, with North Texas Building and Remodeling Co. To us. After we were scammed out of $10.000 for the materials & Labor to rebuild our deck I called Home Advisor to file a complaint. They said that they would make a report and call me back. I did not hear back from them and I had to call them back 3 more times... each time they said that they were looking into it. The last time I talked to them they said North Texas Building and Remodeling was no longer in there system and there was nothing they could do! What a Joke!

This company worked out really well for us. Don was very thorough when painting our bathroom. He was punctual and completed the job within a great time even working on Saturday to get the job done in two days. He provided excellent service with a clean paint job, repair of plaster problem and cleaned up the area. He was very pleasant and we plan to hire him for future jobs.

Pathetic service
February 24, 2019

Here is the facts that I experienced with HomeAdvisor. I'm a contractor. So they hounded me for ever so long to join up with them. Finally, I decided to give it a try, not that I really needed their service. But I discovered when I started to sign up, that there was much more to it than just paying a certain member fee, which was plenty high in itself. They also charge a percentage fee for every potential customer they refer to me. Whether it's a good lead or not. At that time, I decided I was not interested. Then, I thought I would try out their service. You know, like someone who was using their "free" service to help me find a contractor. So I started to fill out a request form for that.
And I found it to be so lengthy that I discontinued it and logged out. I did "not" give HomeAdvisor permission to refer anyone to me. Because I wasn't interested. But I guess they had enough information to go ahead anyway and refer me to some poor sucker so they could charge him for a referral fee. Which is exactly what they did. One of their contractors (only one) contacted me (by text) and said something like this, "I heard you was interested in some paving,". I immediately texted him back with my number and asked him to call me. But, he would not call me. Apparently that's the kind of contractors they have. It was the only one who contacted me. I was going to inform him that I did not ask, or authorize HomeAdvisor to refer me to one of their contractors. And I was going to remind him, or inform him, that he had just got scammed. Because no doubt, Homeadvisor charged him a fee for that.
In closing let me just say, I don't see how a company like this stays in business.

After MONTHS of being chased by HomeAdvisor, I spoke to a couple of other contractors who gave relatively favorable input about HA, so I signed up the next time they called. In hind sight they were more interested in collecting the membership fee than providing qualifying leads in the area within which we perform work. Within about a day of signing up I received, and was charged for 5 leads that were nowhere near my work area. I called HA and asked for a credit, and I was told to call each lead, stay on the phone for at least 20 seconds, THEN call back and ask for a credit. During the next year I did not receive ONE SINGLE qualified lead, and with each email I received from HA I requested a refund. JUST TODAY I was told there is a 3-day cancellation period, but when I asked during the call about the 5 bad leads, I was told 'let me check on the procedure and get back to you'. I have a business to run and could not sit at a desk staring at the phone waiting for a return call. I continue to get calls and emails about an 'overdue balance' with HA and I've asked for detail in an email, but nothing ever comes - oh wait, more emails and phone calls from new people, but nothing about the refund I'd been asking for. ALL CONTRACTORS: DO NOT EVER SIGN UP WITH HOMEADVISOR!

Be Careful!
February 24, 2019

WARNING!
IF YOU ARE A CONTRACTOR DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY.

I had a guy call me for months trying to get me to sign up (Mr. Kenny Finning which I'm sure is his alias). After finally signing up against my better judgment from the poor reviews from contractors, I payed my initial start up fee of $287. I figured why not try it, could it really be that bad? Yes!

After making my payment to this thief, he completely ghosted me in regards to setting up the account which was supposed to be done 1 hour after my payment due to a background check they do.

After days of trying to chase him, I contacted Home Advisor which was helpful getting me started. I had two contacts, one being legit and the other not. I didn't get work from either. I contacted the woman that was in need of work but from a different field. We discussed her issue and got her to the correct source. I contacted Home Advisor and explained the information. I also was charged double the money for what they call an exact match, which I was told the woman went on the website and picked my name directly. Being that she chose my name it was doubled in price. I then contacted the false lead back to question her on how she got my information. She stated that she contacted Home Advisor and the connected her to me via phone. To find out that I have been lied to on multiple occasions in a month discusses me.

I only do work with honest people as I am about principal! FEEL FREE TO TRY THEM BUT GO WITH YOUR GUT. I SHOULD HAVE..

Horrible Customer Service
February 23, 2019

This company is not set up to respond to the subscriber, who pays them all the money to stay in business. You cannot call, email or reach out to anyone there and get a response.
Emails are all "do not reply to", they keep short business hours, you NEVER speak to the same person twice. The salespeople who sell the subscription do not train you on how best to get the most out of your subscription. You spend all your time trying to get credit (which is not a real credit, they just send you another bogus lead) for duplicate and bogus leads, people with fake names, people searching the internet for cost estimates who a great percentage of have NO idea they are actually triggering getting called by subcontractors. Even if you as a subscriber get verification from a lead that it is bogus, HA won't credit you. TERRIBLE COMPANY. What a scam!

Lies
February 22, 2019

I am a contractor. I cancelled home advisor after one day of discovering that you cannot turn On and Off your account without it going into only three day delay. When I cancelled, the lady said it's done, but only to find out that the account is still under review. Dylan was not forthright in his presentation. There are other issues too considering the spend budget... You do not have as much control over it as you'd think abd it's no wonder why contactors complain of suddenly spending much more than they had imagined.. HA are liers and thieves. How about my refund? Where is it? They said there's still more people ahead of me and it can take 1 to 30 days. What does that tell you? My recourse for now is to go to various review sites and express my words. How can a company operate with such low standards, though?

This is a company of thieves! I have cancelled my account NUMEROUS times and it keeps getting reactivated WITHOUT my consent. They have NEVER granted me a refund for all the charges they do without my consent. I have had enough. If you are planning on getting a subscription with homeadvisors I recommend you to THINK TWICE, because they do not take a "no" as an answer when you want to cancel your subscription. They are sneaky in the way the speak, they are dishonest, and they have taken a lot of my money for a service I'm not getting nor I want!

I normally don't talk down on any business, but after trying to contact my agent Veronica Ramirez thru Home Advisor to dispute my invoice with no response back I decided to write this. 1st They send you leads that are not real schedule you for appointments without you're consent and charge you for them, when I call to dispute this they said they had nothing to do it with it and I'm still responsible for the lead, some of the leads did not provide an accurate number but yet Home Advisor still wants to charge you for calling them
When you weren't even able to contact the customer, the lead home advisor sends it's not only for you it's for other 20 more contractors which they really aren't given you the opportunity to discuss prices with clients since all this 20 contractors including myself bombard a client with million calls, Home Advisor sales you're information to random business advertisements companies which I found my self receiving more call for advertisement then actual leads. Home Advisor it's a scam and not a fare system to work with. I would not recommend this service to anybody specially for their lack of communication with contractors.
