The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Scheduled to have my lawn done for 8:00 AM today (Mon the 26th). Got up early and after I got dressed, ect found out that at Pro called off and my work was rescheduled for Wed (the 28th). This was submitted at 6:00AM (only 2 hrs notice), but didn,'t post to my phone till 7:53AM. Not a good way to start out. Suppose to be "PROS." Pros don't handle jcustomers this way. Very discusted. Aft I get serviced (if it happens), I will update my review.
Over a year ago I contacted HomeAdvisor to get bids for a bath remodel. Three contractors gave ridiculously expensive quotes. We decided to do the work ourselves. However, we continue to receive 6 to 10 calls per day from people asking if we ever completed our bathroom remodel project. Two of the same people call multiple times per day and I've asked them many times to take our number off of their list. They call back an hour later.
We completed our bathroom remodel a log time ago, but I can't get them to stop calling. They call from *******712, *******333 mostly, but other numbers as well.
Will rip you off and then lie about everything until you are sick and tired of getting no where. If you ask to speak with a manager they just tell you they are a manager.
I had used Homeadvisor in the past and had good success. A few days ago I wanted to have two master bathroom sink faucets removed and replaced with new. Since I was traveling a lot i figured I would hire these folks. The guy showed up on time, mulled around for 50 minutes... then told me wife he had to run to Ace Hardware and get a special tool. 3 hours later he never returned and left the sink and faucet half torn up. About a hour after that i got an email from HANDY with a refund. I then called and complained and said what about my sink being torn apart. Of course I got the wonderful Indian call center and they were morons. I also called Homeadvisor and their response to me was any issues had to go thru HANDY. I was livid. I told them it was booked thru the Homeadvisor site so they should be responsible. Nope. Wash our hands and move on. All that advertising and media for their site and they suck this bad. Do yourself a favor folks... go to your local hardware store and find a pro there. Homeadvisor should be ashamed of themselves for such crappy service
Never signed up for this, I dont know how they got my phone number and the thought that I would be in need of some type home repair. I get calls constantly for an Indian call box and apparently they do no understand the meaning of "taking me off their call list". Extremely frustrating.
I'm getting bad leads! Almost Every single time I especially right after the pausing time is expired, it's like they program the system to hit any one who put their account on pause to hit them with bad lead before they pause again, it's a rip off. Called to get a credit for a bad lead I get denied! When a customer is not sure if he wants a job to be done, if the phone number is a wrong number, if the job is not on my description, or i get the call after my business hours, I still get CHARGED. I don't advise any contractor to work with home Advisor
This app and service should be 100% no brainer as far as being a great working item, however the results are far from that and guess what, THEY DONT CARE.
This company used to be called ServiceMagic. Service Magic was sued out of business by the contractor users because they were spending thousands of dollars for lead that did not exist. FAST FORWARD to 2015, and the parent company buys into Angies List who was also having legal difficulties.
NOW both Angies List and Home Advisor are owned by the same MARKETING FIRM in Denver Colorado (for legal purposes). In 2017 a consortium of contractors filed a formal suit against the parent company that is now in federal court and may obtain class action status. That has not happened yet, but HA and AL have not seemed to be concerned and have not changed their business models.
Contractors pay a registration fee and then they pay for leads. The leads are supposed to be coming from actual persons who responded to a listing in that specialty and/or craft/trade.
These leads are then sent out supposedly to only 3-4 companies but reports are they may be sent out to a dozen or more and then its DOG EAT DOG with all contractors being charged $$$.
What is sad is that there is an actual, bona fide, and serious need for such an app. The downside is these 2 are owned by a MARKETING FIRM and they only want $$$$ and whether services are provided to a client or to a contractor is not on their radar.
This site can still work if they were willing to make the needed changes before a US Federal Court mandates them too.
There are other apps. Most are free to home owners. Many are more responsible to everyone. Only Home Advisor is kind of the big guy on the block right now and until they change, or that changes, this site is a toss up as far as working out.
I am sure there are a few contractors that manage to do ok with it. Home Advisor swears by there number that 170,000 new contractors sign up with them monthly. What they do not tell anyone is that maybe 150,000 contractors close their accounts with them monthly. That is highly unstable.
It can do better, much better. There money will be there. They simply need to earn it and stop stealing it.
This service is worthless, and if I could give it negative 500 stars I would. Contacted Angie's List to try and get quote for electrical panel upgrade. Got responses from Homeadvisor instead--must be partners in crime. Ads say you can see what others paid for your requested service. THAT IS A BLATANT LIE! No price estimates at all. Got four calls from arrogant nasty pushy electricians, all of whom want to chit chat and banter on the phone. Exactly what I DID NOT want!
Terrible site, terrible service, and just plain terrible people in all respects.
I tried HA for two different jobs. One, I needed a handyman... and got inundated with calls from plumbers...(and no handyman). Two: I actually ordered, paid for the service, and they sent a yard contractor who did not have a lawn mower! I had to turn him away---I added the extra star, because they did refund my money (after about 3 emails). So, all in all, I have spent a significant amount of time with Home Advisor, and still have no projects done. Go directly to real businesses, with real employees, who listen.
I'm a contractor whos getting bad leads! Every single time I called to get a credit for a bad lead I get denied! If a customer is not sure if she/he wants a job to be done, if the phone number is a wrong number, if the job is not on my description, etc I get CHARGED! It's crazy! Home Advisor is so bad that they are buying leads from another company!
I think all the contractors that had/have problems/issues with Home Advisor, we should get together a blast these thiefs onTV, on BBB in all social media and website possibles. They are stealing amounts of money from hard-working people and they just simple denied the charges with no reason, just because they want to! Just today I was denied 4 charges! Ex: wrong phone number, job no under my description, customer not sure of wanting the job, customer not answering the phone! It is very Bad! And WE "contractors" CAN"T do anything about it, just lose MONEY! They take advantage that the leads are slow to charge the contractor with horrible leads
I have been using Magic Touch for two years and I am pleased with their services. They are professional and reliable and are terrific problem solvers with solutions to your Landscaping ideas. They are a great group of hard workers.
This company cut some trees for me and did a great job. They were reliable, quick, thorough and cleaned up everything when they were done. I would use them again.
Andrew Robertson (salesperson out of K. C. office) called me at 6:20 while I was eating dinner with my family and promised my company a job if I would rejoin there company. I originally stated no but he PROMISED ME A JOB THAT SERVICE MASTER COULDN'T GET TO. So I brought in 3 employees in for that job that costs me $500 and he never called as promised with client information. We called multiple times, sent emails and text messages to no avail. We used Home Advisor in the past and lost lots of money. Very unprofessional company that makes promises and or commitments they do not honor. Customer service didn't do anything but issue original money back in 2-4 weeks.
Tried using HomeAdvisor for a house cleaning project. The contractor called at noon for a 1:00 pm appointment and said they were running late. I spoke to them again around 1:15 and said they were still on their way. At 3:30 when I hadn't heard anything further I sent a text cancelling the job. At 4:00 pm I still had not heard anything so I called HomeAdvisors. The only good news is that I am supposed to get a full refund on my credit card within 3-5 business days. If that doesn't happen I will do some research to see if there is a lower rating than One Star.
If you are a contractor, do NOT go through Home Advisor. The leads they provide you never answer the phone and if they do it is to yell at you to stop calling them. They give the same lead to over 15 other contractors and they almost never credit back your money when they give you a bad lead. You will spend all of your money and make almost nothing. The people who use this to find a contractor only want the cheapest service and don't care about quality. I would strongly recommend to stay far away and pursue any other way to find quality leads.
Do NOT Home Advisors to find a contractor! Dennis Torres of Exact Contracting in Warwick, RI was hired through the Home Advisors website. He painted my mom's house after a torrential rainstorm and her house is completely covered in bubbling/blistering paint. I have numerous photos documenting how he damaged her home. My mom is a senior citizen on a fixed income and Dennis Torres took advantage of her. He took full payment and refuses to stand by his work which continues to deteriorate to this day. His work is horrible and now we are filing a complaint with the Ma State Attorney General and Better Business Bureau. Do yourself a favor and do not hire this sub par company and do NOT use Home Advisors website. They are useless if the contractor is horrible. They are merely an advertising website. My mom thought he came recommended, but this is NOT the case.
Tried several times to hire a lawn care company and they never sent or had people call us. Very disappointed and will tell all of my friends of this review.
After a worrisome early morning with kitchen sinks backed up, I called Atomic Plumbing and spoke with a gentleman named Bill. He was most kind and patient with a frantic homeowner, in a mess, and assured me he would have someone here between 11:30 and 12:30. After our conversation, he made a call to one of his workers and within 1/2 hour, the plumber was here and at work in my kitchen and bath. Price was reasonable for the time put in. I will recommend them to my HOA and friends.
I was with them as a pro contractor for 5 + years, trying to work with them as I had seen glimpses of the system working, and this service exists as a way to milk money from contractors and take advantage of them using unauthorized bank charges without permission. I would not recommend joining. Their customer services lies to me repeatedly and will do anything to keep from losing a customer so I had to leave finally.
I tried to reschedule a tv mounting through home advisor bc my mount had not arrived, and couldn't get in touch with ANYONE. The pro came to my home and obviously couldn't do job. I still cannot get in touch with anyone- the customer service number they gave me is bogus.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
