The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

It's a SCAM They already scammed me out of $300. It's been two weeks and I haven't made a dime. They charge you for ever fake lead they give you in which no one ever answers. STAY AWAY. Wish I would have read other reviews before signing up. They all say the same thing. Lesson learned
Brent's Appliance Service installed a new part on my front loader washer. He was on-time, courteous, and efficient as well as reasonably priced. I will definitely use Brent's Appliance Service again and highly recommend him to anyone searching for a dependable and affordable appliance repair service in the Cambridge, Ohio area.
I had to have a support post in my carport replaced and I called A. P. Excavation to set up an appointment. The owner called me back quickly and was at my home the same day to give me a quote. The post was replaced the next day with the crew doing an excellent job.
I tried using them once. They try to send you leads and straight up charge your credit card for hella money without asking. I got sent out to a hoarders house full of cat **** on one of their leads. Now for the past couple years they've spammed my phone with marketing calls. I'd recommend Angie's list. It seems like home advisor is run by a bunch of meth heads under the freeway.
Rotten experience with both Home Advisor and Angie's List looking for painters. They both charged carpenter to whom I was incorrectly lead.' They won't resolve complaints either! STAY AWAY! Ask around locally for home maintenance work.
I signed up with them so they can help advertise my company. I was very unclear of what they were charging me to sign up until it was too late. I called to cancel due to all the confusion since the beginning, and due to the fact I wasn't receiving any calls that were referred by them! They said I would have to talk with them over the phone to cancel and not live chat, and I never heard from them. But they suddenly decided to cancel my account and keep the money anyways, and hold
On to it Incase they ever heard back from me? After a week or so of not hearing back from them they stated that seems how it's been over a certain amount of time since my accounts been cancelled that they will only refund the partial amount. The best part is that they promise they sent me a lead, that I never received, but took money out of my account anyways! "Bill" stated that it doesn't matter if you do the job or not, they will still charge you for it. This company is a SCAM! STAY AWAY!
I used homeadvior twice. Once for roof fix and for painting my house. I found a 5 star roofer to fix the roof they did well so I posted a good review. Good right? Wrong. Then contacted a 5 star painter to paint my house. The painter was a young inexperince guy who uses people who has idea what they are doing. They painted over peeling paint, left edges unpainted, put cement on walls leaving ruff ugly texture spots. Tried to post a negative review and homeadvisor.com refused to post it. They said something like "the review did not adhear to their rules" Its my review I didnt say anything nasty just my experience above. Anyway gave them a second chance. Contacted the same roofer to replace the roof and it was an absolute nightmare months longer than told to complete, roof left open rained in house, inside collapsed, rain leaked where no leak before and lots of stain damage. Was told they would fix and they didn't. In the end roofer tried to make me pay 3k more and didn't tell me about price change until complete. I had to threaten a them with a lawyer. I went back to homeadvisor.com they AGAIN refused to post my negative review. I used angeelist to find a window replacement company and they delivered what I expected. I'm not one of those jerks that find fault in everything. I actually have a lot of patience. God knows. Trust me don't use homeadvisor.com looks like they fake the quality of the companies listed by only posted positive review.
While I'm not sure it's all Home Advisor's fault, their 3rd party contractor service provider called "HANDY" is a TOTAL SHAM and SCAM. But as long as HomeAdvisor is allowing "HANDY" to work under HomeAdvisor's umbrella, HomeAdvisor is culpable.
As a first time user of HomeAdvisor, I scheduled my lawn service through "HANDY", which FORCES you to PAY UP FRONT after selecting date, time and number of hours for the appointment.
Contractor (Handy refers to them as "Pros") never showed or contacted me.
I immediately reached out to "HANDY" and was told they could NOT refund me but that a credit would be placed on my HANDY account - AND- my 30% first-time user discount would NOT be honored for the "rescheduled" appt.
They also told me that the contractor that missed the appt would not be allowed to accept any other job requests I would make, -but- he was eligible to accept other jobs. Either this contractor is reliable OR HE IS NOT.
I called and made it very clear I wanted my $$$ RETURNED to my original form of payment within 48 hours (they wanted two weeks to get back to me) or I would pursue this vigorously; that was not an idle threat.
At the end of my 40 min call with HomeAdvisors, my $$ were refunded to my credit card.
"HANDY" is a total SHAM. STAY AWAY!
I gave this Book Home Advisor 1 start, I would like to give it negative star. You book a job Heavy lift and moving. Home Advisor books one person. One person would have gotten hurt or damaged my walls in my home. There would have been no way one person could have moved a very large office desk down to my office. Only idiots would have book it that way.
DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE...
We had a 100' block walk knocked down in a storm. I contacted Home Advisers on line... 4days later, was contacted by HA, and the up selling began before even looking at the job... was told a "Home Advisers Pro", named would contact me within the hour... 5 hours later I called back and was able to speak to John, we told me he would be on my property within the hour... 3 hours later, no call, no show. I called him again, this time he asked for pictures of the damage and that he would provide me with a email to send the pics. That was 2 days ago and still no contact from John, or Home Advisers. I wouldn' t recommend this company to provide any type of service, including wiping my $#*! if I had no arms. There is not a rating on their scale for -5, but there should be.
: terrible customer service, leads than does not work, They violate its owns guidelines regarding reviews, in other words if someone post a negative feedback, all he or she have to say to prove it is: Oh, found it on the Home Advisor. Please stay away from the Home Advisor!
This place is basically a giant drug dispensary. Drugs, alcohol, racism, lies, coverups, and rampant sexism and sexual harassment are the norm in this company. Managers are often times high on drugs and drooling at their desks. Women in this company are nothing more than tools and are treated as sex objects. In my time working with them, this place didn't feel like a legitimate business, but felt like a scam operation. The job is to scam millions of innocent Americans. Managers constantly encourage their sales staff to flat out lie to their customers. They encourage to use the term telesales, as if we didn't realize this is just a telemarketing company. The employees here usually talk badly about their own customers behind their backs, usually calling their customers stupid or suckers. Employees snort cocaine at their desks and trade illicit drugs in the parking lot. This company is more like straight out of The Wolf of Wall Street. I'm surprised the FBI hasn't yet raided their offices.
Im a contracter, but i actually tried using homeadviser once two. So they charge 60$ a lead and get this, they send it out to 5 different contracters at the same time and charge them all 60$ for 1 lead, and they fight it out, customers who do you think is paying those charges, its you.
HomeAdviser is the WORST company to work with. They send you leads that are not even in your areas of work and refuse to give your money back. I FIRED them. Most home owners are tire kickers and won't hire anyway. I am a General Contractor and I own Matson Construction Company, Inc. in Florida. 09/09/2019
David Matson
Worst lead generators on the market.
Competition in my industry (moving) is fierce. I respond immediately to my leads (within 1 min) and over 80% of the time, some other pro gets it first.
I'm paying $20-$30 per lead, most of which I never get a response. I've spent near $300 and got 2 jobs totaling 4hrs.
Not only are these leads overpriced, but they're also low quality. Home Advisor is clearly another group of salespeople pushing their product to maximize their profits at their service provider's, and their customer's, expense.
I'm going back to Thumbtack
Alicia pretends to be helpful and friendly. Did not listen to my needs. Did not provide receipts needed for taxes after asking multiple times. Did not do what she expressed she would do in the amount of time and for the amount of $$$.
I am pro register in home advisor. They are unclear. And charge you money for everything. Do not dare to think they will give you money back because the won't!
I used Home Adviser to find a painter for a covered patio. They found CertaPro Painters which I used for my project. The painters were very professional and did an excellent job.
Its isn't free contractors pay for the leads and most of them are bad. The people either don't answer or they got so many bids already you won't get the job. Literally most of my leads they don't even answer the phone. I call multiple times on multiple days I email and text it's a scam. See the pix the last 5 leads only one answered and I gave an estimate but was under bid
Hired a electrician from HomeAdvisor worse company ever RLG Electric owner Rodney L Grace. Abandoned job after 4 days because he was to hot and got to dirty not kidding. This guy was a creep left discussing messages on our phone after taking our money. HomeAdvisor is a advertisement company they don't check for professionals because this guy was so far from one it was pathetic.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
