The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Some company I never even heard of didn't pay a bill that was $17 and I spend $1,000 a month with HomeAdvisor. They put MY account on hold because they said my account was a sister account. I never even heard of this other company. They couldn't give me a reason why we were connected and said my name wasn't on the other account or anything. I never gave them permission to connect me to any other account as the account representative and they said it's up to HomeAdvisor to decide who's account I represent and they won't unlock my account until the other people pay their bill and I can't do anything to disconnect us. Completely irrational to lose $1,000 a month for a $17 bill that isn't even related to me.
They don't give credits for leads. Had one lead one hour and a half away. They won't credit. I like how they put on the bottom of their email. When you win we win.
They will sell you. They will charge your credit cards non stop. They will not stand behind you. Big waste of time and money as a business owner.
My name is Joe Mollric
I own The Septic Surgeons, Inc in Ohio.
I have used Home Adviser for over 5 years years, and currently spend about $6000. 00
A year with them. I work in several Ohio counties, and their out reach is very effective.
I have a "not to exceed figure" per month.
While receiving credits for work that I'm not licensed to perform is time consuming, and costly, they generally agree.
They can't ask me to do something that is illegal.
They get that-most of the time.
My experience, over the years, has been profitable
If the client found me on Home Adviser, I ask them to write a review on my service.
I get really crappy leads often-price shoppers or not the home owner- That's part of doing
Business.
The best leads for me come from referrals, septic pumpers.
I pay a $100 referral fee for each and every one that turns into a paying job.
Being new to the Tampa area & needing a water heater repair I turned to Home Advisor at the suggestion of my girlfriend. Home advisor contractors are vultures. Absolutely none would provide any type of estimate over the phone. I made appointments with two. The 1st Haske plumbing cancelled. The 2nd Cass plumbing is a huge ripoff. I authorized the repair before realizing what a ripoff it was. $264 to replace 2 $10 parts in less than an hour. NEVER EVER US HOME ADVISOR!
This is the most dishonest place I have ever worked for in my entire life they will charge you per lead have the audacity to charge me 51.00 for a cutting grass that's 1000 sq ft really thats a small yard called them 24hrs before I decided to cancel they said I have 297.00 credit in my account a day later there saying I owe them 653.00 That's 953.00 I paid them to use them for 3days not to mention I paid them 300bto set up there horrible and refuse to give you your money please dont use them...
I used this company for leads. Worst idea ever. They are ripoffs. I got charged for the same lead 3 times. For some reason they kept on sending same leads over and over. Most customer are not even ready for projects and they are just shopping around. Be careful
This is absolutely the worse company I have ever worked with. They will change the way they send you leads and then charge you extra money without your permission. The last straw was the new "pay online" feature. They quoted one of my jobs without my permission, charged the customers card, and supposedly scheduled the job. The next thing I know the customers calls to confirm a appointment that I had no idea was suppose to be on my schedule because no one from home advisor bothered to call and schedule it. So I had to rearrange everything to get this poor customer on my schedule because she had already paid for it. It has been over two weeks no one knows where the money is and how I am going to get paid for this job. Do not work with this company!
HA did not provide leads from us and then did not refund money for absolutely no business generated. This is a dishonest company that is just interested businesses hey so I have a fee and then they scam lead fees. It would have taken several new pieces of business to pay for the
Lost more money in lead fees than I made on actual leads. HomeAdvisor does not screen for people who are serious about hiring therefore anyone who's only curious about how much a job will cost will be sent to you as a "quality lead". The contractor will pay hundreds of dollars for leads that will never answer the phone and HomeAdvisor will not credit you for. Giant SCAM!
Extremely annoying, dishonest, and disrespectful telemarketers. They won't stop contacting me. HomeAdvisor has called me over 60 times. My phone that they keep calling is a personal phone - not a business phone - and is on the National Do Not Call list. I've asked them multiple times to not contact me ever again and to place me on their do-not-call list. According to the FTC, I am owed $40,000 per each call so that is $2,400,000 that HomeAdvisor owes me. When is HomeAdvisor going to pay up?!
They steal money from you they have unacceptable service you'll end up paying more than what you earn
Charged me $855 in 6 days with a $350 cap on my leads. Guy who sold me the service said they credit for bad leads. It's a lie! They said a good lead means the name and phone number are valid. What?!?! These people didn't even want work done and I got charged $130 per "lead". Had to cancel my bank card. They call over 20 times a day to try to collect. Scam artists for sure!
I decided to give Home Advisor a try for a tv installation project that I needed help with. They paired me with a few different contractors, two of which seemed to not understand the specifics of my request, which were 1. Mounting tv on brick fireplace, and 2. Need for mounting hardware, and 3. Concealing cables. I spoke to one contractor which was a big box service, and their quote for the job was way over what I was expecting. The other 2 contractors, both of which would only communicate via text, seemed to not understand the details of the job, nor would give me an estimate as to what I was going to pay. One contractor even mentioned that he was going to have to pick up the correct bolts to complete the job, and suggested that I give him a tip.? WTF? I ended up cancelling two appointments as a result of the communication with both of these contractors and hired someone else myself. The following day, I noticed that there were 2 charges on my account 1. For services (not performed) and 2. A cancellation fee. I did get both of these reversed, but of course it takes time for the charged to be refunded, which is fine, but charging me for something that was never performed seems ridiculous. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!
My son did this when he started his business and they took all his money, You are charged for everything even all the calls you don't get, and the people don't even hire you but you have to pay for it. DO NOT DO THIS! Some of the leads are false but you pay for everything.
Thieves! Last month spent $2880. 00 on 16 leads which we tried calling to get credits. We had people calling for storm damage who already knew which contractor they wanted they just needed additional quotes for insurance. We have also had false leads that say they need 10+ windows when they only needed 2, also TONS of no call backs or cancellations. Previously was told we could get credits after they "investigate" now the person is saying no credits because we cancelled our account this week after spending OVER $10,000.00 (!) in the last 6 months. Reported to BBB! This place needs to get SHUT DOWN!
These people are like a scam. They charge you for EVERYTHING and never get jobs for you. I have spent over 500 and no jobs!
I have had 2 shocking experiences with Home Adviser. I tried to leave negative reviews detailing my experience. I've had no issues posting positive reviews in the past, for services I have hired through the site. They will not allow me to leave a negative review, they allow positive reviews only. Will never use their site again, knowing the review system is rigged. Their positive site reviews certainly influenced me to hire these particular contractors. This is unethical, deceptive behavior. The plumbers I hired for a $6500 job demanded payment prior to job completion, hounded me daily and refused to complete the job until full payment was made. Once payment was made, they left without completing the job. I hired them in the past for small jobs without issues and left several 5 star reviews for this company, who I realize were buttering me up for a large job. I never obtained the camera proof that there was even an issue, as promised by the contractor, who refuses to answer his phone since being paid. Can't even remove the positive reviews I left for this company previously. This is the base of my brand new toilet! I'd post a video if I could, to demonstrate how the toilet bounces up and down. This is not to mention the shady floor contractors they sent my way. Will never use Home Adviser again. They have cost me thousands and still refuse to publish my honest negative reviews, only the positive reviews. Oh, and avoid L&B Plumbing and ALD flooring, both based in Nashville TN. Neither of these Home Adviser approved companies will honor their word once they have your money.
As a consumer AND a Pro, I can say this company is a scam. As a Pro you do not get any real leads. Leads are given to several pros at different times, so by the time you call the customer, they have already booked with someone else. They won't cancel your plan when you ask, charging your credit card again for membership fees. Stay away. Stick with Angies List for leads.
This company charges to send you an email for a lead and charge you based on what the job might be... it doesnt say what you will be charged... my husband signed up thinking he could trial the service before agreeing and was then sent 5 emails over 2 days which they are charging $611 for. These leads did not lead to jobs at all. They are tire Kickers... we wanted to cancel the day after signing up... a Saturday and because they aren't open Saturday we couldn't and they proceeded to send us emails. Charging over $100 an email... SCAM STAY FAR AWAY... I INTEND TI LODGE A COMPLAINT WITH BBB... if anyone else has had a similar experience I would love to join forces... these people ate taking advantage of hard working trades people.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
