The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

All I have ever recieved for references were bottom feeder contractors.
Those that couldn't get work on their own due to poor reviews or other issues.
Some never called back, some are retired and doing as a hobby (really!?), some only have a few years experience.
I received better results on my own.
Stay away from this service!
During hurricane Irma, a small tornado dropped a tree on our house. Seven trusses were destroyed and we needed immediate tree removal before more damaged was done. We called Homeadvisor and they sent two dubious people in a beat up pickup truck. A crane would be required to remove the tree. They quoted a price of $4000 with a $2000 deposit so that they could hire someone with a crane. I called a tree service not associated with Homeadvisor, and they showed up at my house with a crane, a bucket, a bobcat, and everything else they would need to safely remove the tree. Not only did they remove the tree on my roof, they also remove another tree, cut everything up including a few large branches that had broke in the wind, and carry them all to the street for removal by FEMA. Total cost, $1500!
Obviously Homeadvisor does NOT vet its contractors. Beware of this scammers!
I went onto the homeadvisor website. They have fixed pricing for certain jobs. I clicked and scheduled to have my septic tank pumped. A service a majority of homeowners use on a regular basis. I selected a day and time (1 1/2 week away)input my credit card information and confirmed I was scheduling a septic pumping. A few days before the service was to happen I received a call from a contractor to confirm a pipe cleaning. I explained I needed a pumping not pipe cleaning. He told me sorry but he would contact homeadvisor to rectify the issue.
The day before the scheduled service I called homeadvisor to see the status. The first advisor I spoke with couldn't understand what the issue was. So I was transferred to a different advisor, shocking only spoke and understood broken English. He to couldn't understand what the issue I was having. He wouldn't stop speaking long enough for me to hardly talk. I finally had to get rude with him and demand to cancel the incorrect scheduled service and refund me.
If homeadvisor can't pay more attention to their customers needs I worry how they intend to take care of they're customers.
THEY GENERATE 70% OF THEIR FAKE LEADS AND THEN THEY DONT CREDIT WHEN YOU DISPUTE. THEY SEND YOU WRONG NUMBER, CUSTOMERS THAT NEVER ANSWER, AND LEADS LIKE Mickey Mouse.
My home suffered over $200,000 of damages from a so called "PRO" that used Home Advisor to target consumers to defraud. This "PRO" signed a confession, but Home Advisor refuses to acknowledge my letters and phone calls requesting compensation for the damages.
Just learned CEO Chris Terrill cut a deal to purchase Angie's List and walked away with over 100 million dollars and numerous lifetime perks. Shame on you, hope your lear jet crashes on your way to your multi-million dollar estate in Nantucket.
Massively disappointed! I just determine that Home Advisor does not provide a customer the opportunity to write a review for Pro. We see plenty of reviews on pros profile but I believe the Pro gives the customer a link to write the review, otherwise the consumer cannot write a review.
I hired Frank and Johnny Home Improvement (referred to me by Home Advisor), that ripped me off. They charged my up front fee of $800 to start the job, they did a portion of the job and they did not finish the project. That was a week ago and I have not heard from them since.
If Home Advisor is protecting Pros from bad reviews, that absolutely needs to be publically known.
LAWSUIT!
I have never in my life seen such a big name company put on such a big Scam as Home Advisors... I signed up for this leads fairytale and it is the Biggest scam...
They charge my company for every lead ranging from $80-150 that we didn't even
Get a contracts on. I was mislead by their poorly trained, young adults (who was trained also to lie for the company) Then I asked for a supervisor, and she pass the phone to her friend sitting next to her. ABSOLUTELY unexceptable for a well known business.
They should have their business license revoked and BURNED!
We contracted a carpet cleaner. A date was set, BUT that got cancelled. On the rescheduled
Date a women with a vacuum type carpet cleaner, a bucket and a very dirty vacuum.
We were having stairs and 1000 sq feet of carpet cleaned and she comes with a Walmart carpet cleaner!
Please rethink having anyone from Homeadvisor come to clean your carpets.
We have been advertising with them for Over a Year. First, Everything was great and We were Very Happy. Suddenly, Everything Started going Downhill. We got Leads from people Stating that they did not go through with the process, that they had exited before hitting send. Others Stated that yes they were on the Website, and had no idea how HomeAdvisor got their information because they didn't input it. Others Stated that they input their request a week or two prior and they already had it taken care of. Most Customers Did not Respond, Even after leaving Voicemail and sending emails. When we confronted HomeAdvisor, They Stated that They Do not Store Customer Information in their system and that in order for a Lead to go through, they have to press send or submit. And every time I told them about the Many leads that are not panning out, They Would Reverse it and Literally Make Me Feel Like it was Our Fault. I did everything they told me to, and nothing was working. But as Things Kept Getting Worse and Worse, I sat down and made numbers, In One Month, We have Spent over $1,000 in Leads that we did not win and only about $250 in leads that we did. I was shook! I went ahead and confronted them, and again they came out with the same story, trying to pin it on me and trying to make me feel like it was my fault. NOT THIS TIME! And Imagine that other contractors get charged More than that For leads they do not win. And it is ridiculous that HomeAdvisor Advertises themselves as a FREE Service for the Consumer, Do ANy of them sit and think about How HomeAdvisor Makes their Money, Well I just gave you an example. And Most People are Searching on the Internet and Find home advisor, Not even serious or just looking up information. Please Stay Away From HomeAdvisor.
As a business owner that used to go with them, I can't recommend staying far away from them enough. They'll send the lead to as many companies as possible, charging each one $50, and then the only one who will get the work is the one that prices it lowest. At least homeadvisor will still manage to make hundreds of dollars though!. Businesses lose their shirts with homeadvisor and forget about getting a refund on all those references, even when it was accidentally put through to the wrong company. I've heard from several others that they had the same problem I did. DO NOT go through them. You'll regret it.
Worst company ever I wouldn't sign up for nothing. They charge you for crap you never even signed up for I plan on calling the BBB to file a formal complaint of fraud.
The worst, lying cheating scammers! Leads are 1/20! Said they won't charge past $270 a month for leads and they charged us $620!
They lie lie lie and rip you off for leads! Most no one will call you back and you get charged $37-59 every time! Do not sign up for membership! Terrible business and should be shut down!
Do not do it. They rip you off and they f*** you over to not end. They're a sleazy company built on a sleazy business model. STAY AWAY. Seriously. Don't do it.
There are 2 kinds of real estate appraisers. Residential Appraisers and General Appraisers.
Because of an apparently deliberate error they list Appraiser - General and Appraiser - Real Estate. This should be Appraiser - Residential. They send Bad Leads to Residential Appraisers for Commercial properties and refuse to refund the lead fees which are very expensive for leads which are prohibited by law for residential appraisers. I warn other residential appraisers not to fall for this rip off.
Sign up and you will pay for fake leads and if you refuse to pay for them, you will be sent to collections. Worst experience I have ever had. Thank God I lived next to a class action attorney who is taking a look at my case.
Just like all the one star reviews say, They send out to at least three contractors the same customer info and in my case 75% of the customers never answered, 20% already found a contractor and the last five told me they never requested a contractor or yes they needed one---a month ago. I never NEVER, received a viable job from any contact sent to me by H. A. I set my alarm on my calendar every week to remind me to put my leads on hold during the last six months because I've heard the misery H. A. put other contractors when trying to cancel membership early. So I lasted the last six months with minimal inconvenience but still feel ripped off. I was polite when I finally cancelled two weeks prior to the end of my year but I will NEVER ever use H. A or Angies List (they are owned by H. A.)
They are absolutely horrible! If you are a contractor, STAY AWAY! YOU WILL LOSE MONEY WITH THESE MORONS! They don't adhere to the budgets you set and then tell you that budget only applies to certain types of leads so they can filter in a bunch of them that don't get accounted for and run up your balance. They were exceeding our budget by 3-4 times of what it was set at. COMPLETE RIP OFF! DO NOT USE! I WISH I COULD GIVE 0 STARS!
As a pro i would like to say this company is a scam, they send leads at 3am claiming its real customers but they are not since i could never get hold of the customers who submitted their requests at 3 am in the morning
I am a contractor. They send me bad leads and charge me an enormous amount for them. No one was real and when I canceled they said I need to wait 15 days and charge me again. A lot of money expend for nothing. Amigos no los contraten. Cobran por cada lead que les mandan asi no tomen el trabajo o no este en el area que ustedes querian. Pesima experiencia. No los contraten.
My company received a call from Home Advisor stating that our company had a driving infraction so we were no longer eligible to advertise with Home Advisor.
What kind of unprecedented excuse of a company does that? To top it off, they now use our company name in their ads on Google!
It is my opinion that Home Advisor is incredibly incompetent to give a home owner any advice at all.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
