The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Craig came to my church & installed 3 blinds. He was very efficient & knew what he was doing. He also has a great sense of humor. We laughed & talked & I was very impressed. The blinds are great quality & will be calling him for more work in the future.
Home Advisor sounds great until you point out the flaws in their system.
In short, a contractor pays per lead. The same lead gets submitted to multiple contractors and you pay whether the customer calls you back or not. HomeAdvisor doesn't necessarily approve credits for misdirected leads. So it is often that a handyman pays for leads which should have went to a licensed plumber, electrician or general contractor.
Home Advisor told me not to worry about the lead fees, but to consider the ROI for my overall participation. I did just that and found that Home Advisor fees accounted for 49% of the gross revenue generated through their program.
I wish home advisor checked their clients as ones like "all superior" are worthless. They offered a bid that was extremely high compared to others received. It would seem that this firm was not interested in doing a small job as the weather had obviously done damage in the area and they wanted only the big ones. I would have acceped a " no bid" as a proper response to my issue. Why are your, home advisor, so low. Don't you care?
Now they're asking for cc info without providing a contractor number or any other info. STAY FAR AWAY.
I highly recommend NEVER using HomeAdvisor
I feel like I probably should have known better, then using a third party app again but was getting a good price.
I used them to have someone come in and deep clean the house we just bought (the previous owners had a lot of pets) and it just needed a good deep clean. Since we've been doing the move by ourselves and still had our previous home to pack and clean. I decided to hire a maid service to come in and do the cleaning for the new home...
I'm not going to lie I was SO excited to have the job off of our to do list!
So the day comes and the cleaner never shows up and never calls. I have to contact home advisor which was a complete hassle...
And finally they tell me the cleaner called them and said he felt unsafe and uncomfortable coming to the house because of all the flags in the area...
Flags?
I had no clue what they were talking about... we have no flags... my neighbors have a few american flags? Like you are afraid of American flags?
I was super upset. Because we were planning on moving in the next day and I wouldn't have time to clean the house before hand. But they kept asking if they could send someone on the 15th (today), that was the soonest they could get someone else. So against my better judgment again I let them set me up an appointment with a different cleaner.
I had to completely reschedule and push back my move to accommodate the new cleaning.
So today, waiting on the cleaner to come. AGAIN a no call no show...
Home advisor refunded me my money (that of course could take 5+ days to get to me)
But that doesn't help the fact that I now have to try and finish everything at previous house and try to clean new house before move tomorrow.
I know there are worse things in the world right now. Just so frustrating
Liars, liars, stolemoney from me, I have to submit 100 characters and dont have time to get into their felonious activities. Hopefully people read this and steer clear of these Aholes
Dave Jauregui (owner) came out to our home the same day of the referral to give us a quote. He gave us priority because our roof was leaking. He completed the job the next day. Great job- took the time to match our roof color, cleaned up and took all of the old roofing material with him. We would call Dave again and recommend him highly.
Home advisor was a horrible experience. They charge so much to advertise, they charge you for everything. It is a pain to cancel, they actually don't do it. Very bad service, I do not recomend
Bastards charge 28 dollars for each lead, 95% of leads dont answer the phone, and very few call back. The prosess for getting refunded for such leads is limited and difficult. Called to cancell service, they did not, and charged me for another year, called them. Was on hold for over two hours, only to have them tell me they cannot issue a refund. Liars
Please dont use this service. Any "home owner" can call you because signing up is FREE. Most "home owners" just want an idea of the price and no real interest in getting the job done. And when its not a real home owner its another company trying to steal YOUR prices. Why am i paying just for someone else to benefit off me? And i dont even want to mention how many scam phone calls i get. They will charge your accounts for leads that you have not accepted yourself, then say they can not refund it to your bank account because "its not in their policy". Please dont waste your time and money on these people.
There reviews are, for the most part, bogus. They feed you non existing leads and take your money with a no refund policy. They are total crooks
A company called 24 Hour Service installed a Bream hot water heater at my home on 2/26/2020. It stopped working approximately 2 weeks later. This was at a cost of over $1300. 00. After numerous calls and no response, today they said they could not come out due to the Coronavirus. Funny that other plumbers in the area will come out but of course at a charge. Isn't plumbing an essential service? Next call is Rheam direct and BBB. I noticed HomeAdvisor doesn't have great rating either.
More then half of the leads I have received were not actual leads almost all of them were not asking for any type of service, wrong contact info or even people asking if we were hiring. I have not only paid for the membership but has also cost me 300.00 everyweek because of these fake leads. I really advise people not to trust in home advisor helping grow your buisness. All it is is a very expensive extra bill.
I am a home contractor and have been a member of Home Advisor off and on for the past 5 years. I quit the service twice due to broken promises of giving credit for bogus leads. The 3rd time i rejoined, I was promised by David, Salesman for Home advisor, that the bogus leads would be handled by him if there was any trouble with me getting credit, Well, that was incorrect. Secondly, I told David I would rejoin HA if I can pay as I go, (DO NOT SEND ME A BILL). He stated that would never happen. I was doing fine for 6t months then I receive a bogus bill for $950.00. Of course I could not get back in touch with David he will not return my phone calls. Then another rep called my from HA and wanted me to pay half of the bogus bill. Contractors beware this is a bait and switch they promise you one thing then do another.
We are a reputable architectural office and thought we try out HA, but we should have googled them before we did. A simple web search reveals that they don't work ethically. Our mistake, won't happen again.
HA charges contractors and service businesses for useless, non-compliant or old leads but does not compensate for their mistakes. Example: A project we were charged for $94.25 was supposedly a "Complete remodel (with or without addition)" and turned out to be a single room drawing the client needed. The client was not fluent in English and my email to him after the call went unanswered. My request for credit from HA based on wrong information was turned down by HA.
Multiple and different independent sources online report similar issues.
And then I found this. A Class Action Suit against HA: https://chimicles.com/in-re-homeadvisor-inc-litig-case-no-116-cv-*******-pab-klm-d-colo/
The suit alleges the following:
Maintaining and employing systemically flawed and deficient processes to generate leads;
Charging Home Service Professionals for leads that were not from project-ready homeowners, were not verified and were bogus;
Using heavy-handed and coercive means to solicit new Home Service Professionals for Membership Programs;
Concealing and omitting material information about substantial monthly fees for mHelpDesk;
Blatantly disregarding Home Service Professionals' lead parameters and budgets;
Distributing the same lead to more than four Home Service Professionals;
Adopting uniform internal procedures intended to deny and discourage refunds and/or lead credits; and,
Exploiting terminated Home Service Professionals by maintaining their online profiles in order to shamelessly generate and pilfer Leads for its current network of HSPs.
Do your own web search and also look into the HA staff reviews on review places like Glassdoor, com.
It sounds like a call center business with high sales pressure. Don't sign up until you have done this research!
If you still want to try HA, be ready to cancel your credit card after you did because you might get charged even after trying to cancel your account with HA!
Good luck!
Marva is very through and does excellent work. She goes the extra step. I would recommend her.

Really horrible company

I was with HomeAdvisor for 10 years. In the past, I used to receive some decent work through the site. Over the last couple of years however, I would receive more and more unqualified leads. Even with "EXACT MATCH" leads, I would find that the lead was sold to so many other contractors, that the people hardly wanted to answer their phone because they would be inundated with calls. QUITTING HOMEADVISOR is a monumental task. They try to turn your leads on all the time when you don't want them and charge for the crap. I finally made a clean break. I would not do business with them at this point.
Home advisor. Charged me when my leads were off. They did the same thing last years gave me a free years sign up. This years they did the same. I have email proving my leads were off. They kept sending me leads and we all know how home advisor sends out B. S. leads so I always have mine turned off. They sent it to a collection agency mean while calling me to offer me another free years sign up. This is a scam company who changes there name who are also called Angie's list and they changed it previously before that. They send fake leads all the time. Warning to anyone who goes with this Company
From start to finish, the estimate, price, clean-up, & service was excellent. I would highly recommend Oak Tree Services.

Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
