The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I went on their site and went through all their steps (which had all the wrong questions for my job) to hire someone for some audio work. I never finalized because I was uncomfortable with the program but then I was contacted by phone from them and the sales agent spent 20 minutes answering my questions and signing me up for up to three hours for $150.00 and charges my card. On the day of the work for which I had an appointment no one had called to tell me they would be here or for that matter which company was coming. I then looked on their web site and found to my surprise that no one was coming. I thought at the least someone from home advisor who had proactively call me to sell the job would let me know that no "pro" had picked up the job but they didn't. Instead I called the number on their web site only to be on hold for 20 minutes and go through the verification process etc and was told I would have to be transferred. I had the wrong department! Then I was disconnected. I did the process all over again and an hour later I am writing this. Do not sign up for this if you value your time and your wallet. The charge was Put on immediately but takes 3-5 days to be removed. I hope I influence some people not to use this company. Shame on Home Advisor! Businesses do not need to operate this way.
Call 3 or 4 of the best contractors you can find to give you a quote, don't waste your tesources on Home Advisor! Their contractors pay for the leads and the reviews! NOT GOOD!
Contractor never showed. Waited for two day, and no phone call, no e-mail, no reschedule, nothing. Tried to contact the refund dept for two
Days, and was on hold 20-30 minutes but nothing. I want to cancel the
Project and finally requested a refund by e-mail, and the charged me
$37.00 fee to cancel, and refund my $453.00 charge. This is the last time
I. Will ever use Home Advisors again.
This site is WORTHLESS if you are looking for somebody to do a project of any king whatsoever.
The listings either don't call back or are amateurs who have no clu. As if every unemployed guy decides to be a painter, handyman, carpenter etc.
In addition, the costs they quote in the sites "average cost" for each type job are INSANE.
I had one guy quote me $2500 for a fix it project. I had checked the cost of material and it was $300... I asked how long it would take and was told 3 to 4 hours...
WHAT?... do the math.
Angies list, now owned by Home advisor is the same.
In a few words... use the yellow pages or get ripped off by these sites... THE WORST and WORTHLESS
I guess I'm getting old... I owned a home in this town for 44 years. And this is by far the worst experience, I've had trying to hire someone for home repair.
Home Advisor did indeed charge my card $377 plus a $19.99 membership. I send them an email complaining about the quality of the overpriced work, asked for my money back and a cancellation of my membership.
They refused... My mistake, I should have at least read these review before calling them.
How does that saying go: "fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice twice, shame on me"
The guy that did the work was a really nice guy, but out of his league.
Won't respond either. I liked the person who cut my grass but even he said I should have been charged 55. Not 110.
I've always tried to get an estimate for a job before I hire anyone to do a job for me. I Get three then choose the one that is best for me in price and ability to do the job and credentials. This company only sends one company. The contractor is usually pushy wanting to come do the job not do a w we uslifying estimate. I think this is wrong. The contractor gets upset if I don't hire them because they get charged for getting me as a lead I'm sick of the mentality that I the consumer have an obligation to hire whoever is sent. I will do it the old fashioned way... and find my own comps without going through this company or any company that is set up to find a contractor For consumers.
Was quoted amount for lawn service to be done twice a month for one monthly fee. Come to find out, amount would be charged twice a month.
Was on phone for hours to different departments to cancel booking.
Can't reach live person. On hold throughout the day. Emailed, calls. No response. Finally called my bank to flag credit card charge. Worse comes to worse, I'll cancel credit card and get a hole new one.
How can this company do business like this and Not Be Closed Down?
Never Ever use this Company! They will steal your Credit Card Numbers. They Robbed my Company! Caution! Caution! Caution!
They do not give us the option to accept or deny leads. A good business practice would be to send an email with the scope of the work and location giving the company the option to accept or reject the job. If the company accepts the job then Home Advisor should at that point send the contact information. To just send 25+ leads that are hours away to a company and then charge them is in my mind bad business practice.
BEWARE DO NOT USE HOME ADVISOR THEY STATE THAT THEY CHECK OUT THE PEOPLE THEY SEND YOUR INFO TO. I FOUND OUT THAT THE AC GUY THAT CAME OUT TO OUR HOME IN OXFORD HAD NO LICENSE OR INSURANCE. HE NEVER GAVE ME A QUOTE HE JUST STATING TAKING THINGS APART INCLUDING THE BREAKER PANEL COVER WTF I NEVER ASKED HIM TO DO ANYTHING ALL I WANTED WAS A QUOTE ON THE AC NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I'M GLAD I WENT INTO THE HOUSE WHEN I DID BECAUSE I SAW THE GUY ON THE PHONE FACETIMING ANOTHER GUY ASKING HIM WHAT HE SHOULD DO, SO I ASKED HIM IF HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING AND HE SAID OH YEAH JUST HAD A COUPLE QUESTIONS FOR SOMEONE I SAID PACK YOUR $#*! Home advisor has been stealing money after I have canceled there service. They offered me a promotion of a $1,000 worth of leads for $100. That is a scam. They charge you for leads that you don't even want. I called furious after they billed my card without my permission for an additional $200. I called and canceled and demanding my money back. Nothing. They claim to record calls but can seem to find anyone who can review them. I was lied to and had my hard earned money stolen. After all this of not using them and canceling them I woke up this morning to them stealing $200 more dollars. I demand my money back. This is unethical and pure stealing. I have to cancel my debit card because these thieves are stealing all of my small businesses money. They won't call me back and refuse to remove my card from being charged without my permission. They don't help small contractors they plain steal from people and find loopholes once you put your credit card information in file to continue to steal. This picture shows we canceled and every Friday they continue to steal money after I was already stolen from. Do not use them you will regret it. They will try and take every penny. So much for your help Josh Lent. We appreciate you canceling our account and continuing to steal our money. We are in a world wide crisis and after my wife was lied and misled she was verbally abused. I bet those recorded calls will never be found.
Pleasant experience. Exceeded expectations. Owner followed up on completed job. Workers dependable and professional.
Do not use this lead company! It will suck you dry out of all of your money, they are very manipulative, conniving, and unprofessional. I was just hit with a $300 AUTO RENEWAL FEE, no authorization! I have not used this software in a 10 months! They send you a ton of over prided leads and you barely generate any work! NEVER USE!
The landscaper came out, did a little work, did not follow instructions, scheduled for the following Friday, didn't show up. So, I hired someone I believe is dependable. Then here comes an email telling me their guy is coming out on Saturday. Then tried to cancel their guy with Home Advisor. Just try to reach a real person at Home Advisor. Can't be done and their machine claims I am calling from a different phone so they won't answer. That is incorrect and why am I limited to calling on a particular phone anyway. I suggest you look in Angie's list. Home Advisor. Ha! Ha! Don't waste your time - and also ignore all those reviews they pay for (very deceptive).
Hired twice for gutters. Also wanted several estimates for other projects. The work I got done has fallen apart 1 month later. I spent nearly $700 on a gutter that has fallen off. The estimates I wanted done didn't pan out because the guys never showed to quote the job. I'm done with home advisor.
A glass shower door was stuck and I hired Home adviser to repair and adjust. They got the door working within a few minutes and said everything was fine. This was a rental property that was in the process of being sold and therefore unoccupied. Two weeks later the new owners moved in and went to take a shower and closed the door and the glass fell out and crashed onto the vanity and shattered into a number of pieces. The owner received cuts on his feet getting out of the shower. That is not the worst part. Try contacting home adviser, There is no phone number listed and they don't appear to want to respond to e-mails. They don't appear to be very trustworthy. I would be very cautious as to what you want them to repair or install.
2 weeks in advance I booked a housecleaner and got charged & the day if service no one shows up. I called the woman they listed as our cleaner 4x's with no answer & couldn't leave a voicemail because hers was full. I called the company 4x's as well & sent 4 emails & never heard back. They did not give me a refund so I had to have my bank dispute the charge. This is a terrible company & they're just scamming people.
Home Advisor recommended Labriola Landscaping as a 5 star on their site. They were defining right on the money. Stacy, the owner, was prompt, thorough, meticulous and very up front about this job. He personally removed an old stone wall, bushes, small trees and ground cover. He then had to resurface and add top soil before adding sod. He was quite skilled with the equipment. I would certainly call this company again for any major landscaping. Call this guy first. He works in Westport, Clinton and Old Saybrook areas mainly bot will venture out.
So, had an appointment for yesterday for window washing the outside of my very small Cape Cod. First of all, the appointment window was 1pm to 7:30 pm! I didn't realize that when I booked. I thought my appt was at 1pm! Well, they never even showed up, no call, nothing! And, they were gonna charge me $250 for this small house! CRAZY! I got another company, 81-100 windows, inside and out, gutter $300! And, I've used this company for power washing, very good!
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
