HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

The first job they sent me to was a mobile home in filthy condition. They wrote me a hot check.
Then I got a lead for a call that said they already had someone they were just checking the site! And I asked for a refund.
After repeatedly getting sent out to give FREE quotes I decided to turn it off. But they refused to refund my money.
I canceled my service and they charged my card afterwards for the next billing cycle.
I had my sevice off and was sent a lead anyways, even though they could see that I had turned off the service repeatedly they refused a refund.
I protested it to my credit card so they sent me a last effort letter of double the amount charged my card or they will report non payment to credit bureau. Another random charege! I did not call the lead, which is routed through there system its not actually the customers number, so they can see I did not utilize the unwanted lead.
I left because of random and high priced charges were being charged. And because they do not cater to the professional who is there backbone, they do not fix there mistakes and over charge. They sell the same lead to 3 Electricians minimum so you have to call immediately better not be on the phone...

Paid in good faith for a repair... that part went smoothly

Took days to be contacted, never could actually talk to anyone. Called several times only for the system to hang up on me after approximately 20 minutes each time.

The contractor never showed up and never called which I can prove via my phone and cameras.

They are trying to say they did. Their lies versus my technology... They will not talk to me or refund my money.

It is a SCAM!

I searched online for a local septic inspector only to find a sham website called "Powell and Sons" Septic Service which sounds like a local Mom and Pop Shop. No sooner than I put my info in I was bombarded with calls from home inspectors telling me I had "signed up" at HomeAdvisors for their services. What the what?
Number one, I didn't need a home inspector, I needed a septic inspector. They are 2 vastly different things, and Number two---It was FLAT OUT MEANT TO BE A DECEPTION in order to gain my info. SO SHAMEFUL for a business to act this way, and so against any practice a reputable contractor would want to be associated with. I would give less than one star if I could!

Joined home advisor a year ago and i had nothing but problems with them. Long story short i had become to busy for work and 6 month in had enough work and called them to cancel account was told i couldn't until my one year anniversary and i should pause leads every 14 days because i couldn't cancel, i also told them to cancel on anniversary. I did as they say to pause leads and naturally i was getting charged for exact match leads. One year later on anniversary i was charged renewal so i called and they told me there was nothing they could do to refund it. So in a nut shell i wouldn't recommend this to any contractor, its a waste of money you can get the leads cheaper on thumb tac even google are cheaper.

Upon my cancelation of my account, i had to call back a number of times because my account was still being charged after my cancelation. Originally someone did say they would have a refund issued but after a week there was another charge to my account from home advisor. When i called i asked for a manager, i was passed to a supervisor named Amanda who said these are legit charges that where accepted before my cancelation and she would not be issuing me a refund. I asked Amanda how i can talk to a manager, Amanda instructed me to call back and op into a line to speak to a manager. I called back and there was no option to speak to a manager. I ended up on the phone with another supervisor named Mike who refused to listen to my request of speaking to a manager. Mike was relentless pushing his help. After Mike wasted my time for 20 minutes Mike said all he had to do was send an email to a manager and a manager would be in touch with me within 48 hours... its been 2 weeks! Mike threatened if i dispute my account through my bank it would put my home advisor account in collections. This is the absolute worst customer service i have ever experienced! I have yet to hear from any manager or any rep from home advisor. I would not recommend them if my friend's dog needed a bath.

I needed a series of home repairs and went through HomeAdvisor.com and made confirmed appointments via the site. These were all cancelled abruptly, with a form letter-email from the site which did not provide any reasons. I tried calling but the drop down menu does not give an option on this, so I contacted online chat. Extremely rude, did not answer my questions and disconnected. Don't bother with this - go to your local info site like Next-door.com.

If I could give this place a negative star I would. If you are a start up company where every penny is very important, you may want to stay as far away as possible. You pay a yearly service charge for the Pro services, then you pay for each lead that you get, but here is the rub; You pay for every lead, even if its a "dead" lead. Out of my first 28 leads only 6 leads were valid. Out of the other 22 leads, 20 of them I was not able to contact either bc number is disconnected, no answer when called, Voicemail is full and no response when emailed. After trying for days and days at a time, NO reply from the "Lead". So, I submit a request for credit and it gets denied. When asked about why you deny a credit to a lead that you cannot contact and the reply is ALWAYS, we generally do not give credit to no-contact leads, with NO clear reason but "we just dont". For the 3 weeks I have been a member I have paid out over $1k for 6 good leads. That just doesnt make good business sense. When trying to cancel I was offered a credit of $200, so when asked about the credit, I was advised it was a credit to my account. Basically, they keep the money they have and credit my account $200 for the next set of "dead leads" to suck up. Their business practices are NOT for the contractor, they are ONLY out to make THEIR money! Stay as far away from this company as you can. Unless you have a HUGE budget to dump into a few good leads, you should run away FAST!

I just wanted to see a run-down of some contractors for a particular service, who I could call myself. Even choosing this option, Home Advisor unleashed a torrent of incoming calls, some/most not even for the service I wanted.
I did not give permission for anyone to call me.

I called Home Advisor thinking they might be a quick way to have a sliding glass door fixed. I told them when I made the appointment that it would need new rollers and a new handle. This was written on the work order that the person they sent out had with him. This guy named Jamalle, showed up with a screwdriver and nothing else. I told him what it needed and as I said it even showed it one the work order. He said he couldn't do it for that amount but he worked for another company also and he do do it from that company but it would be more. He said he would wait while I called Home Advisor's customer service line. If you have ever called that number you know you will be lucky if you ever get to talk to someone. Meanwhile Jamalle left. Now I am trying to get a refund. I have been passed around from one chat conversation online to 3 or 4 toll free numbers where I wait on hold for 20 minutes and then get a recording that they are too busy to answer my call and I am disconnected. If you haven't had the misfortune to deal with these people, do yourself a favor and keep it that way. They truly suck.

I hired a contractor through Home Advisor. He came out and gave me a quote for my project and said it would take a week or two. Weeks went by and the job wasn't getting done. After a month or so, he doubled the price on me. At that time I told him I did not want him to finish the job. He ended up taking me to court and was very smooth during mediation. I had to pay him more for a job that wasn't even half done. I later learned that he had been to court 4 or 5 previous times. I asked for help from Home Advisor, nothing. I will never go through them again!

Is this Fraud?
June 20, 2020

Despicable service. In my opinion, I would argue fraud on several levels. What company out there can get away with selling ONE of the same service to THREE different contractors? At best, you'll have to beat two other contractors for the same job. In reality, you leave 20 phone messages, and make several follow-up calls to voicemails. If you're lucky and someone is answering, they may be wondering why you are calling them.

I spent $3000 and I have to cancel my card... they will NOT stop charging you.

Here is an interesting fact: They own Angies List, and lots of other apps. One is a handy man app, where they charge the homeowner money and send you out, and pay you for the job... Interestingly, they are ACTUALLY competing with you for the leads that they sell. One can only wonder, are we getting the spill over of rotten leads?

Problem city
June 19, 2020

Contracted to replace a garbage disposal. Contractor arrived 2 hrs late. Asked if we had the garbage disposal. We were not told we needed to have it available thus assuming they would have parts. Contractor said HA told him we had parts on hand. Had to rush to store get parts. After 2 hours to replace disposal job was completed. However that night the dishwasher would not drain. He left the drain plug in. 4days latter HA got someone to repair it. But told me a $3 fee was charged for the extra repair. Tried to call HA but put on hold for 20 minutes then disconnected. Tried again same thing. Will never use HomeAdvisor a again. Will tell everyone I know how bad they were.

I prepaid for an upfront service to have a Home Advisor "Pro" do 2 minor projects in my home. Originally the jib was scheduled on 18 Jun between noon and 4:00. Several days prior, I received a call from an area code in Wyoming and I answered it only to find i'out ut was Home Advisor calling to reschedule the job for 4:30 which I agreed to on 18 June. Unfortunately, no one showed up for the job. K waited until 6:00pm and true to call Home Advisor.
Its a scam! You can't and won't reach anyone in the fixed price customer service division. I got through to customer service, but then transferred to the fixed price department. After 30 mind on hold, a recording says "I'm sorry but we can't complete you transaction". My call was hung up. I tried 3 more times with the same results. Customer service reps lead you to believe they are sorry, but then quickly transfers your call and you can't reach anyone to complain. Don't waste your time or money. I will dispute the charge with my credit company.
