HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Was good for a change
November 7, 2020

I got 3 estimates, from what seemed knowledgeable companies. I hired one and have since referred them to others. My other experiences with HomeAdvisor, and my families other experience, wasn't good. Had I known I was working with HomeAdvisor I wouldn't have used them. As it ended up, I feel like I got lucky.

Contractors - Beware!
November 6, 2020

Background - We've been with HomeAdvisor for ten years (back when they were called ServiceMagic). We currently have a 4.5 out 5 ranking as a service provider within their system. My industry is Emergency Restoration and the average lead cost for us is about $75 per lead.

Pros - If you know WHEN to turn on or turn off your leads with HA, you can do well and experience a healthy ROI.

Cons - too many to name so I'll focus on my primary compliant. HA has developed a habit and routine of scamming it's own network contractors thru it's "lead reimbursement" policy.

Constantly having to call them to fight for lead cost reimbursement for phony and inaccurate leads has simple become exhausting and time consuming. And the inflexibility of not refunding lead cost, even when you can prove your case, has reached the ridiculous stage. As business owners, we cannot afford to spend endless hours trying to recapture our money, stolen from our bank accounts due to phone or bad leads. HomeAdvisor has become Thieves!

Bad Experience
November 5, 2020

Total incompetence

They sent a non-licensed electrician to install a ceiling fan without a ladder.

He could not install it and never tried, as his ladder did not work. Her drove away.

Now they are trying to charge me for no work done

Very bad company stay away as they quote a low price and cannot do the job.

Additionally, they were extremely rude when trying to resolve the matter.

Stay away from them. They send unqualified handymen who is not licensed to do electrical work.

THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY EVER! I SUBMITTED MY CREDIT CARD TO SECURE AN APPOINTMENT AND WAS CHARGED $647 FOR NOTHING. I NEVER SPOKE TO ANYONE, NEVER MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND DID NOT HAVE ANY WORK DONE. WHEN I COMPLAINED THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD REFUND ONLY HALF OF THE MONEY. I AM OUTRAGED! THIS IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY... I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN AND HOPE NOONE ELSE DOES EITHER. I AM SO ANGRY I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT - THEY ARE TERRIBLE!

As many other reviewers have posted, just a totally inept company. I had a minor service rescheduled twice, the first time with 2 hours notice on the day of the service and the second time with no notice at all. The service required me to be at home so two days of vacation wasted. It was difficult to contact customer service to cancel the rescheduled appointment and process a refund as I had prepaid for the service. Customer service was completely disinterested in resolving this situation, most likely due to the amount of irate callers they receive on a daily basis.

Poor customer service
October 31, 2020

Do NOT use service from this site. I booked an appointment from them and the day of the appointment they rescheduled an hour before appointment. Then when the service was supposed to be performed he was unable to help me at ALL. I was still charged $148 for him to look at my locks and say I can't do it. When I called customer service they said the best they could do was a 50% refund. I lost $74 for a man to come to my door and say I can't do it. Terrible service. Terrible customer service. Do NOT use this site. Youtube would help you more than this company. I would give 0 stars if I could.

HomeAdvisor started to work with Pros, not the classic lead passed to 4-5 companies that I used previously without issues, but a Pro service that they provide. I don't know the insides, but this pro was sent by HomeAdvisor to replace Faucets. Well, the pro broke the pipe, yes, the pipe and left the site after one hour trying to fix the issue.
The website didn't allowed me to leave a bad review or there is not a clear way to claim the issue by email/support, they force me to call them to discuss the issue.
Cost not refunded, so, I paid for a broken pipe that costed me twice as much and with the additional delay to fix the initial problem.
When I purchased the service, there was a promotion to subscribe, which I did to get a discount in future services. Obviously canceled the subscription as well, but no refund.
So, a monumental failure for this kind of service. I understand that no all the professionals are the same, but in this case, it was real real bad service with no an easy way to report the issue. All HomeAdvisor's fault in my opinion.
Picture attached of how the pro left pipe leaving the job not done.

I almost feel like a fool - I tried twice. I really wanted it to work.
THIS IS REVIEW BY A CONTRACTOR.
I would receive non-existent leads and leads that have LONG ago picked a provider.
I would get leads that were not leads - they just wanted to know how much would it be to maybe.
The amount of time I have to spend on the phone with Home advisor trying to get credit back (most of the time unsuccessfully).
I had an "account rep" for exactly two weeks who would credit me for the first issues. And then it was over.
Don't ever say you actually talk to the customer because you get charged for the lead. So if you call Joe, and Joe picks up and says "well, I changed my mind, I won't need a service" you are out of luck. You get charged the lead fee, which is never less than $25.
