The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

We stated several times that we were not interested and Caleb Ruempolhamer kept calling and calling, being very rude to our secretaries. I don't know why he couldn't take the hint.
When I signed up, the sales person said I can get an refund at anytime and he didn't mention about 3days refund policy. After I signed up I got 2 leads and they asked my bank information and card info. (home adviser even didn't check their customers) and I decided to get a refund and they said I cannot get it because I asked cancelation of my account after 4days. I was mad and I just call them to cancel all my account and i said don't renew my account and don't contact me again. And today an lady contacted me to make me reopen my account she said she wants to help me but at the last time she said I need to pay 300$ again to reopen my account. She called me to take money from me again. I cannot understand how they do business like that.
My family and I used HomeAdvisor when looking to have a patio room built. I am hear to warn anyone thinking about going this route to think again. There is a complete lack of any human accountability with this site as they sent us to a horrible contractor who has taken our money for shoddy work which isn't even completed. My dad has even had to re-do a bit of the work the contractors did because they were not as skilled as was we were lead to believe they would be.
And we're talking substantial issues here: doors installed that don't lock properly leaving us vulnerable and unsafe. (We literally lock two doors they installed on the patio room, and then push them slightly while locked, and POP! They pop right open.)
These are horrible people who don't care about you. Look elsewhere. The contractor this site lead us to is called Sunrooms And PatioRooms Inc. (or, Sunrooms and Patiorooms of Anaheim--they're very cagey and have never answered my questions about what entity name they are licensed to work as). DO NOT EVER USE SUNROOMS AND PATIOROOMS. Godspeed and good luck!
Fellow Contractors:
They send you "leads" after hours, Sundays at 3am, etc. I've had a few dozen leads and
Was able to connect with a total of 1 (ONE) person. None of the others responded to either phone calls or emails. HomeAdvisor must bombard the home owner with contractors calling them, and frankly who would like that?
I would be happy to pay for qualified leads, but this aggressive charging for unqualified leads is unfair.
Had to cancel my credit card because of all their charges.
I had a small paint job so I thought I would use their flat price service. The job was a disaster - the painters left an absolute mess, messed up the paint on walls they weren't painting that I have to have them repainted, and damaged my floors. Homeadvisor's response was talk to your insurance company. Unbelievable!
You have no idea who you are getting (clearly they don't vet their contractors well) so do not use!
I signed up for Home Advisor hoping to get a little extra business. Boy, was I fooled. Their phone reps are nothing more than con men looking to make a fast buck off of YOUR BUSINESS. Do not sign up for them. They will push leads on you after you turn them off. They will send you FRAUDULENT leads of people that don't want to be contacted, emailed, or called. 99.9 percent of their leads are total garbage and they still charge you nearly $50 per lead when they know they're complete and utter garbage. If you're a contractor, do not trust these folks for anything. In one month, they charged me nearly $1000 for all useless leads. No one answers or responds to any of them. They made more money than I did off of MY BUSINESS. Don't get suckered like I did. I'm contacting an attorney, the BBB, and the Michigan Attorney General to file a claim and suit against them. They promise the world but don't follow through on anything. They expect you to pay for leads that don't ever pan out. Build your business organically. Skip these frauds.
Beware of Fake and Bogus leads. I signed up at homeadvisor hoping on getting jobs and nothing. Non of their leads answered phone calls or emails, I got emergency leads at midnight, well that's shady. Homeadvisor doesn't tell you upfront how much the lead will cost and what type of work the client needs, so it will be a surprise to you once they charge your CC. The cost of leads is very expensive from $18 to $90 per lead for a $50-$90 job so do the math. Do not pay them money upfront to join, they will drain your money. Also you can't turn off direct match meaning Home advisor automatically matching you and charging you fee per lead and you can't control it. You wake up in the morning and there is a charge from home advisor at 6am. Didn't work for me...
Frank is definitely a welcome find for our family. Both my husband and I are a bit more than seniors. With all the summer heat and humidity, the foliage and beds had gotten out of hand. Frank quoted us a fair fee that was accepted. He got to work, and I mean hard work, for over eight hours. He was clean, professional, and efficient. We will definitely have him back on a regular basis.
I requested a quote, and a service provider expressed interest in my project. HomeAdvisor sent a 'link' to the provider, but the link was dead. I sent them two emails requesting a fix, but they did not respond.
Not only am I not talking to the provider, but now my reputation is damaged because they know who I am, and they think I am ignoring their offer - all because HomeAdvisor's system is flawed.
I cannot recommend HomeAdvisor.com. I would avoid.
HomeAdvisor, we are always willing to look over billing and offer refunds when they are necessary. When a dispute is made with a bank instead of contacting our support team first, this is when we deactivate the account so this trend doesn't continue for future bookings.
I literally signed up with home adviser about two weeks ago for a $100. A month deal and please guys! Check everything and I mean EVERYTHING! Before you agree to anything with these crooks because I got charged $435. For speaking to 2 POSSIBLE LEADS!?. That does not make sense guys. You can pay less for advertising and get better results. I tried getting my money back at the end but had no luck. I talked to 2 possible leads or clients, spent $535. All together and didn't make a cent. I really hope you learn from my mistake.
September 22,2020 we contracted with Lake Erie Roof... what I can tell you is they set up an appointment to investigate my roof repair job. Jeff was on time for appointment and did a detailed investigation and provided a fair price for the job. Next a team of three professionals arrived and worked diligently to make repairs and complete the job. The Team members were Neat and did a perfect repair to wood and replacing a number of tiles. Lake Erie Roofing is extremely professional. I will always contract with them. They are a five star agent.
This has to be one of the worse companies Ive ever dealt with. The customer service is quite the opposite, they are rude and I have been hung up on several times and they do nothing about it. I have been charged for leads with incorrect ingormation and bad numbers which rendered them useless. Nobody wants to pay for phony leads but that is what they sell. They will not reimburse you and if you try to dispute those charges with your bank they will charge you again and add a 20 dollar fee to it n if you dont pay that they will put it in collections. This company is a hose job and has no morals. Do yourself a favor and stay away. I closed my account with a zero balance and now they are claiming I owe them money. Impossible!
Most crooked company ever. Give 4 pros to customer, so 4 pay them and 1 gets the bid. Try to cancell? They start billing you on your card. Want refund? They tell you it can take up to 30... YES THIRTY days for them to give your money back. We have been shut down by this fake covid crap, out of business. Called DOCUMENTED... and cancelled and they still hit me for over 680.00... corrupt evil peolpe... burn them down
I contacted Absolute Hardscapes thru Home Advisor because of pot holes and cracks in my rather long driveway. They did excellent work, showed up when expected and did a professional job of renewing the driveway. Would definitely recommend.
Completely unreliable company. 3 times in a row and within a week contractor did not show even after confirmation and reconfirmation. I called them to install AC about a week ago. Contractor and appointment was confirmed. I called the contractor a day before, he confirmed. He will be there. Next day no show. I called HomeAdvisor, they apologized and assigned to another contractor and provided details. I called the contractor a day before appointment, same story and no show. I got mad and called them again. They apologized again and said they are escalating to operations team and assign to their top rated contractor in the area. I was re-assured this will not happen again. I called the contractor a day before and he also assured. Guess what, I paid someone to be at home as I was not going to be there on weekend and yet no showed up. 3 times in a row same issue. This is so unprofessional. They should not be in business. Do not trust HomeAdvisor!
One star is the least I can give. Two guys took the job and then turned it down. These people are a rip-off and the biggest waste of my time.
Homeadvisor used to be a reliable source for professionals and I have used them for years. Lately though, their customer service has left a lot to be desired. I just tried to use their fixed-price service and was contacted by someone before I was even finished filling out the inquiry form. This person had trouble explaining the system and was so impatient that she basically hung up on me mid conversation. Very disappointing.
We set up our account through a promotion to give it a try. After the trial was over and we did not see the results HomeAdvisor said we would see, we decided to cancel.
When we called to cancel, we were told to put the account on hold since we did not see the results we thought we should see for the money (again, at this point we had not put out any money because of the promotion). If we had spent what the promotion cost - $300 - we would have been out money. We did 4 jobs directly related to the HomeAdvisor leads totaling $414 which cost us nothing because of the promotion but if we were paying for the leads, we would have only made $114 on 4 jobs. We would have lost money because our overhead is more than that.
We were under the assumption that while the account was on hold we would not be paying for any leads... NO... Two months go by and we get a call saying we owe $537.79 for leads. We had not taken any leads or jobs from HomeAdvisor since we put our account on hold.
Businesses beware, HomeAdvisor is not up front with their business practices.
Most of the leads were bad. I spoke to someone who suggested we were taking long to call the leads back. So we started calling them within 5 minutes. Sometimes less than a minute. We still had leads that did not answer, were just price shopping, did not really need what we were offering. When I complained, I was told that I should start texting them immediately in addition to calling them. Really? This is supposed to be a warm lead that I am paying between $18 and $35 for. The return on investment was horrible and I am sorry I stuck with it for as long as I did. A very expensive lesson. FYI, my overall rating was 4.91 so when I actually got some business, they loved us.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
