The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

So much for highly-rated pros. Canceled on twice at the last minute. Support provided no help at all. Getting contractors is already a pain in the $#*! and doing it through HomeAdvisor makes it that much worse.
Very bad practice, does not give a receipt of all the work that needs to be done, then will try to collect on a price that was never agreed to and then starts a job and pulls the man off the job after doing more damage then was there originally. I have pictures to prove it!
This contractor needs to complete the work he did for me this year. Has to finish the trim around the side of the countertop and when he did sanding on the side of the cabinet, he sanded some of the paint on the side of the cabinet. He said he would notify me when he can finish the work. He had some one refinish the cabinets and they look good. There is one cabinet door I will question him about.
I tried many times I have had over 6 no shows no phone calls no explanation just our professional had a emergency.
They must be hiring druggies or they are druggies absolutely worthless. BTW I'm a mechanical contractor I know professional this a internet scam.
I used Phixser a week ago. We had an emergency at home. One of the toilet was backing up and they were able to send a technician in 30 minutes from our call. I will definitely call them again for any plumbing matter
Home Advisor kept calling me to sign up with them and finally when I did before I started any work they took $300 from my credit card. They lied to me about me only paying them if I accepted a job. I had a couple of leeds in which 2 said after I had calked them they already had a contractor and then one of the leeds I had hung up on me when I tried to contact them. Anyway I believe that Home Advisor is a scam please think twice before signing up with them.
Rosa NO SOLO NO SE PERMITIO SOLO CONTESTARON QUE TAMPOCO REGRESABAN EL $.
MUCHO CUIDADO NO SE DEJEN ENGAÑAR. HAGAN MUCHAS PREGUNTAS
Aunque mi recomendacion es NO LOS USEN. NO LES DEN NEGOCIO POR ENGAÑAR.
I was with Service Magic / Home Advisor Since they opened I always had 5 star reviews. After 5 years or so they started sending me leads that had no point of contact. I've had to argue for every credit I deserved. After awhile it became impossible to deal with the nonsense any more. I worked very hard in my online profile for over 8 years. Since HomeAdvisor was such a mess I decided to keep my leads on hold for awhile in hopes that they would straighten out their illegal business practices. HomeAdvisor closed and locked me out of my account and all of my contacts that I PAID for. They just want people to re-sign up so that their scammy company can show new customers.
HomeAdvisor overcharges every person on their site with false leads. Don't bother sign up with them. Unfortunately Angies list is now owned by the same company. So far Angies list has not adopted HomeAdvisors illegal unethical business practices.
I was using Home Advisor for about 1 year. The way that they explained how they function and bill charges are not how their system really works. They got me for about $1,000 in leads even though my account was suspended. I spoke to multiple different representatives and they tell you one thing and do something else. These mistake cause the business owner's using their service money. I would highly recommend finding a diffent company to use. This company makes mistakes and they do not care what it cost their consumers or care to rectify the thier wrongs.
One of the reasons such sites as Angie's List, Thumbtack, Local Remodeling Quotes, etc. exist is because contractors have a pretty awful reputation when it comes to following up, following through, and communicating. Supposedly, contractors pay a fee and are vetted by these 3rd parties organizations. However, HomeAdvisor was worse than any first contact I've had with a contractor.
I created a project (convert a bedroom and small bathroom into closets, ensuite, and remodel a second bathroom). HomeAdvisor showed 2 matches, with the notice "awaiting response." It wasn't clear whether they were waiting for a response from me, or I was waiting for them to respond to the opportunity for a job. Since I hadn't received any contact from anyone, I opened a chat with "Antonio." He told me that--despite the fact HomeAdvisor had listed 2 names for my project--"we were not able to find an exact match for your Request." He asked if he could give me a couple of names from their "Live Directory" that I could contact myself (did the 2 names posted for my project come from a "Dead Directory"? Guess that would explain why no one contacted me...)
I said thank you, I'd be grateful to get the names and contact information. I asked again why I had been given 2 names that did not contact me. He finally suggested "Maybe what happened there, is that at the moment your project was received they were available, but they have provided a quote before to other customer who hired them moments after your Request was received."
What? I asked "So the HomeAdvisor pro" just blew off the request? Didn't even bother to say "thanks! But we're all booked at the moment!" Antonio said sorry for any inconvenience, try out new application, "have a great rest of your day!" and disconnected. I use chat options all the time, and have NEVER had one hang up on me...
I consider myself fortunate that I did not work with any contractor that is coming from HomeAdvisor!
I have used HomeAdvisor 3 times. Each time the work was less than satisfactory. They descended like vultures when I had a roof leak. After reading how they treat their members I know why if they are constantly getting charged for "leads." The guy never fixed the leak, charged me a huge amount of money, then said he was refunding some of my money and sent me a photo of the check but never sent the check. When I left a bad review HomeAdvisor called me and refused to post my negative review! I will never use any of these services again and try more by word of mouth now.
I had purchased a fixed priced service to replace a ceiling fan from Home Advisor and it was a nightmare. They kept rescheduling my appointment three time and every time It took me an hour to drive and open the property and the technician never showed up.
This is by far the worst home improvement experience I had. Don't use this website they will rip you off!
Worst experience of my life as a contractor signed up for them, scammed me out of 400 dollars. Never again
I have used their old services many times with great success but I am having a
Major problem with their new fixed price service to get a plumbing issue resolved. As a
Matter of fact the problem is worse now than when we started. I have
Contacted the fixed price help desk many times regarding this issue but
All they do is send out another person to try and fix the problem. To
Date I have had 4 different Pros assigned to this project with no
Success. Problem started with just a sewage smell in the bathroom. Now I
Still have the smell problem but also the toilet they worked on is now not level and rocks from
Side to side making it unusable. Also there are safety and health issues
With the smell because sewage gases can contain methane and hydrogen
Sulfide, both highly flammable and potentially explosive substances. This
Problem started on 8/14 with last person canceling their appointment at the
Last minute on 9/10 via a text message. They don't even know if the people
That they send out are licensed or certified to do that type of work that is being
Requested of them. They don't give you a name of the person so you can't do
Any research on them to check them out. I now have to find a licensed and certified
Plumber to fixed all the damage they have done along with getting the problem
Taken care of that I asked them to fix in the first place. Since I didn't get a refund
For what I paid for so far, I am having to pay for it all over again plus for the
Additional repair work. Stay away from their fixed price repair services.
Had a leak in roof--home advisor two calls 1st very professional nice truck well dress. IRoof gave me 3 prices repair /blend/replace entire section. Went with entire section to match and looks. Came out 3 days latter different name on the truck. Was to have contract with them did not. Said would be e-mailed to me, started work. Get e-mail has wrong name/city/and repair. Contacted never got a response. I was home that day watched entire repair. Work was done as agreed---good job--. Clean up not so good lots of old pieces and NAILS. Found nails in driveway which is at opposite side of house from repair. Sloppy unload and load of truck. Tires for my car are $400. To $500. Each this could have been a issue. Owner said would stop by during repair never did. Even when I paid tech was unsure who to pay then determined it was iRoof. Next time I need any repair will do what I think he did. Get up at 6:00am go to Home Depot parking lot with sign need roof repair/gutters/siding etc. This really works. No different then the amount of time HomeAdvisor spent on the business practices of this contractor. My daughter has done this and found a contractor for all her landscaping/hardscape and is now installing a pool.
Yes he is insured and Lic.
Hello fellow Contractors, Caution! Contractors beware of the Homeadvisor experience. Their business model will have you frustrated and calling the help center frequently. From high pressure sales tactics of signing up contractors for a large fee, to large quantities of false leads that cost you $100 plus per lead. To no avail you will be frustrated and have a lot less money in your account. Their business structure makes them billions while the contractor struggles with advertising costs. You will quickly be made aware of their true direction as a company. Homeadvisor's business outline can easily be described as passive aggressive, concerned with getting your money instead of providing a good service. They are overly concerned with different ways to retain your money than provide you with an actual service for your business. Homeadvisor's customer care service consistently states they are sorry for your experience. Customer care is trained to pacify the contractor then drain your account, in contrast to provide a sound lead service? What you get is questionable business practices for a high dollar premium. Check out the Better Business Bureau for this company! You have been warned.
We are a new landscaping business trying to stay on our feet in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. When home advisor called and gave us their "you will find so many jobs and opportunities" talk we truly thought it would help us in these rough times. I was so wrong, I made the mistake of not doing proper research on this company, until they suspiciously charged $700 dollars to my account. I was mislead to believe that we only have to pay for the leads that we win, but instead they charge you for EVERY lead. They LIE to you, whatever you do stay clear. The leads are fake, the people we called said they NEVER filed for home advisor. They steal information and create fake leads. DON'T DO IT.
Worthless company Will steal your money and not refund anything not even sticking to the their own refund policies. Too many customer service reps with a personal opinion which has no business in the business field Just do yourself a favor and find any other way to advertise
Our landlord went through home advisor to find someone to fix a SIMPLE tub surround. After 2 months of this guy cancellong and rescheduling (we would've went elsewhere but were just the renters) he finally showed up. With NO equipment.no tape, no pencil, no glue or caulk... nothing. Sk he had to come bacm the next day. He took one of the slabs home to cut. Came back the next day an hour late... driving a real pos car, no name tag, nothing professional. Just some ghetto trash looking guy... he was in the bathroom for an hour then left real fast. We went in and my bf tried to flag him down but he was speeding out of our drjveway laughing.
This a hole had HOLES in our new liner. It was filthy, literally several random cracked/torn holes, its already peeling off and he left an hour ago, he put all these paper towels in our toilet, its uneven, its cut wrong, theres caulk all kver the place all random. Ot is literally the worst hack job I have ever in my life seen. Who screens these people and did we just get cased? Bc he def was no handyman! I wouldn't have let him in after the no call nk shows and rescheduling or showing ul without any supplies but bc were renting were at the mercy of our landlord who went thru home advisor...
Don't go thru them! Clearly there's no screening! I cannot believe were left with this mess!
I needed drywall repair so we tried HomeAdvisor. They sent out someone who literally kept referring to YouTube videos. I couldn't believe they let this inexperienced person come to my house.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
