I've used HomeAdvisor in the past, and have been generally satisfied with the service, but recently I had a cracked sprinkler head that needed replaced. I was not happy with the results. I got a call, and the woman said they could fix it for $450. I was so offended that I just hung up, and proceeded to look at some DIY videos on replacing a sprinkler head. I was shocked to find out that the part I needed cost $4.50. Long story short, I went to Home Depot and bought the part, and replaced the broken head in less than 10 minutes.
I did get a HomeAdvisor email later stating that a company could do the job starting at $170, which is a lot better than $450, but still, we're talking a 10 minute job, so my advise is to check into DIY first, and at least get some knowledge about what the job entails before jumping into having these companies call you.

They make illegal phone solicitations violating the TCPA but take no responsabilities. Check recent lawsuits against home advisor before being suckered into their scam.

Good for the customer looking for pros. Nothing to worry about. The contractor is paying for it whether or not you go with them or not. A grand money maker for home advisor, but not the contractor. Leads are inaccurate 7 times outta 10 or the customer just wants to ask you information or advice, but has no interest in processing further. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they didn't charge so much for all leads. Some of them are just straight ridiculous for the smaller jobs. Home advisor makes a point to tell you that you can get credits, but they only allow a couple monthly. They make so much money especially when they are sending it as a "market match" must be nice... They really should reconsider prices are most of their leads! Spoke to other contractors and they feel the same as I do. Looking for new and less expensive alternatives with better reps and less costly mistakes.
Sorry home advisor we really wanted to make this work better, but a good concept, but NOT for a Contractor.

These folks will tell you whatever it takes to sign you up. After I paid the $300 and passed there background test they had one bunk lead for me. After unsuccessful pursuing that one review, I decided to cancel my account. What a waste of time and money.

Sought referrals for sprinkler system repairs. Got a few, and selected from a list of providers. Mcknight's Total Landscaping was the way to go for me.

Tried to uo their own recommendation before I had seen it with a dlfixrfmed rate deal. The HA plumber was on a temporary phone and this was only revealed to me when I cancelled. I was directed to tell the HA plumber the gate code when no contact details were provided. A $15 cancelkation charge was fought tooth and nail by me because it was not declared applicable at the outset. After 4 calls, I got all my membership and their so-called cancellation charges refunded. I reported this vendor to Visa whose CC I used for payment
