GMX needs work.

I liked GMX because it was a short name being just three letters.
While the service is mostly reliable I must list the following downfalls:
1) When you log in you have to press an additional button to go to your inbox, which is unnecessary.
2) If you email anyone who has no emailed you first, there is about a 90% chance your email will go to the spam folder.
3) GMX may block you from accessing your own account. I received the following message when I signed in: "Dear GMX member, our system has detected irregular activity related to your account. As a precautionary measure, we have blocked your account." After contacting customer service and 24 hours having passed I received no remedy, and based on the reviews of others who experienced the same I probably never will, but will edit this if I ever do.
I cannot recommend this service if for the above issue alone. I cannot even access important emails that are now stuck in my blocked account.

Within a week of signing up the account was blocked with no rhyme or reason. I can not get an answer from support. Significant waste of time. Avoid GMX.

Just as others have said, the e-mail address gets often blocked due to apparently being on some spam (or other abuse) lists. Needless to say, I've never been sending spam. EDIT: I'm in Europe and mostly send emails to other ppl in Europe, maybe it has something to do with the blocking.

Plus the server has often problems which means you are unable to send (and likely also receive) any emails from your email client (I use Thunderbird). No idea, if you can log in on the website, I'm not gonna try, I'm sick of it.

It also happens that sometimes the automatic "out of office" answer isn't being sent, despite everything being configured correctly.

CONCLUSION: It was a mistake on my part to set up the gmx.com account and I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT to anyone.

I've been looking for a good email service for some time (my requirements being: supporting SMTP and IMAP, privacy, a lot of space and free) and I'd recommend trying seznam.cz (https://registrace.seznam.cz/?hp).

When using the account with Trust. Zone, my account keeps getting locked sooner or later. Which means I can't send emails until I log into the web interface to change my password.

This was not the case up until a few months ago and also hasn't happened with any other email provider.

Like other people have descibed, my account was blocked as well and they neither tell me why nor do they grant my request to have it unblocked. I doubt they even grant any such request. No idea why they would block it. Gmail never did in my life and I've had many accounts there.

My e mails to my wife were returned as undeliverable. She contacted them from another e mail address and this is what she received back,

When I tried to set up an email account, I had to go thru this ridiculous verification of a picture -- over and over -- like 6 times and then I gave up -- although I got it right the first time. It seems like management wants to play games with people to require to do this. Once you click on the correct pictures, it should be accepted and the process should move on but it does not. It seems management wants to play games and will keep putting more pictures to click, as if they're playing games, annoying and harassing you. I would stay clear of this email server.

Sent two e-mails one by one - account blocked, "irregular" or "abnormal" activity, need password change.
After one month(just daily checking inbox via mail client and daily synchronisation contacts/calendar) - account blocked, "irregular" or "abnormal" activity, need contact with support for unblock.

I have used GMX for years with no problems at all. It has been easy to use. On Monday I was blocked with a message that said "our system has detected irregular activity related to your account. As a precautionary measure we have blocked your account". I emailed their support and asked how we could resolve this as I am going through a divorce and have many important emails there. The response I got this morning said that it was "determined that the account in question will remain blocked." They also said "Please note that this decision made by our abuse department and we do not have further information we can provide to you". So I it will "remain blocked". How long? Forever? I have sent this response back but an not hopeful that I will ever gain access again. I am not into porn or anything illegal so unless someone accessed my account overnight and did something illegal there should be no reason for my account to be blocked. I am very unhappy. Does anyone have any experience with Zoho mail? I am now looking for a new email provider...

Quickly google "gmx account blocked" and see for yourself the countless people who have had this issue.

Been going for years and still not fixed.

They are unreliable and systematically block people's accounts for no reason. Often have to wait days, weeks, occasionally months for them to sort it IF they even sort it at all.

Customer support either goes silent or never gives you a straight answer as to why.

AVOID GMX if you value your email.

I've started using GMX as my primary email service. I'm a basic user, so I don't need all the special bells-n-whistles of premium service... I just want a simple email service that won't switch my personal account settings without my consent.

GMX blocked my account without a notice. What the HELL!
GMX apparently blocked my e-mail account for "irregularities", and will do nothing to unblock it. Customer service is unresponsive, no assistance, no explanation. Lesson learned: Do not ever use GMX, avoid at all costs.

Apparently this is a growing problem with GMX they were quick in responding but simply told me I was blocked for irregular activity by their security team and they could not give me further information, not sure how legal all this is but it's definitely bull $#*!
