Anthony Echevarria made a mistake in the move-out scheduling, and then he made me pay for his mistake and charged me 1 extra day's rent. And I sent email after email, but no one responded or got in touch with me. I just lost my hard-earned money because of Anthony's mistakes. And then I have been emailing them, and no one has responded to my email. Very bad. Do not recommend.
I moved into a rental home in Douglasville GA. It was a horrible experience. Maintenance was horrible I went without an air conditioner for 4 days. My house was over 89 degrees inside. The maintenance man knew absolutely nothing after 5 days they called in a professional from an air conditioning company took him 10 minutes. I move out spent 2 days cleaning that house and they took my deposit of. $1800. Read the lease, hire a company to clean your carpets and your house or they will find anything to keep your deposit. I had pictures and that didn't matter. They charged me for picture holes. Consulted an attorney and was told the only thing I could do was go to court. And there was no pre inspection when I moved in. Do not rent from them. I have never had my security deposit withheld and I have always rented.
Do not rent with FKH if you plan staying more than a year. I've been paying 1990$/mo, rents in the area have gone down about 1-2% in last year. Today FKH sent me a letter offering "early choice" (3 months ahead) lease renewal with, drumroll please, 18.3% increase in my rent to $2355! So thats 20% increase relative to market. They rent much bigger buildings in the area for less money on their own website. Also most trees around the house were cut down in past year so now it looks like a cement lifeless disaster. Needless to say, looking to move elsewhere when october market will be flooded with properties. AVOID this company. Not going to try negotiating Im over it, will rent from a private landlord not a corporation that doesnt care about its customers.
SCAM. They tell you that they don't check your credit and they go to your debt to income ratio between me and my fiancé. We made well over the 3 times amount that is required. So we filled-out the application paid all the $165 application fees and got denied because we were told they do not check credit but that is why we got denied. They said our credit rating was too low. Save your money, go with another company.

Our garage wouldn't shut and no one bothered to call us back. Seriously, no call to even let us know when they'd come. I called them 4 times in 4 hours with no luck of the local maintenance team calling me back.

I didn't even get very far with this company but after jumping through a million hoops to even apply for a house, I paid the application fees and submitted all documents, just for them to tell me the property is no longer available! So then I call to get a few questions answered only to be outsourced to INDIA! Why do American companies do this!? I cannot even understand a word the representative was saying! I kept asking her to repeat herself! And then if you have a young adult child they require you to add them as a Co Applicant instead of just an occupant. Which is outrageous! I don't want anything in my child's name. Just nothing but frustration from the start with this company! I would never recommend!
We are currently FIGHTING to get our deposit back because of the absolutely terrible repairs done by their maintenance workers. I've attached photos that clearly show the problems and the garbage work they did. This company is an absolute joke! Good luck getting anything fixed, and when they finally do, it's the worst quality repair you can imagine. I paid over $2,000 in rent only to have my ice maker break and remain unfixed for SIX MONTHS, despite multiple visits from their incompetent repair people. The water line broke in the garage, and they did a janky job that looked like it was done by amateurs. When I moved out, they tried to charge me for that same janky drywall repair! The same thing happened in the spare bathroom—water everywhere—and they attempted to take that out of my security deposit too. They hired a roofing company to do our roof without even informing us, so I woke up to random men in a truck in my driveway at 7 in the morning. I tried to get the gutter that blew off during the hurricane put back on, but that repair ticket went completely unnoticed. The gutter is still not fixed after a year! If you have females under 18 in your home, BEWARE! They hire some sketchy people who check out underage girls while in the home. I recorded the whole encounter, and they never fired the repairman. This company has been an absolute headache to deal with. Not to mention, they raise your rent every year of your lease. Do yourself a favor and rent from someone else or another company. You'll thank yourself later!
I'm a current tenant, and I've had an incredibly frustrating experience with FirstKey Homes. After months of unresolved maintenance issues, delayed responses, and unfair charges, I feel compelled to leave this review so others know what they're getting into. For the past three weeks, I haven't had a working stove due to a gas leak. A maintenance tech has come out six times, and the issue still isn't resolved. I've had to spend money every day on food because I can't cook in my own home. I've requested reimbursement for this completely avoidable expense—no response. Worse, FirstKey keeps marking work orders as "completed" when nothing has actually been fixed. NO, it is NOT completed if I still can't use my stove. I'm tired of getting notifications that problems are "resolved" when nothing has changed. This isn't the only problem I've faced: Flooding that left a bedroom unusable for months A burst pipe in the garage that ruined personal belongings A hole in the attic still letting in pests like squirrels And I was even told to go into the attic myself, find the hole, and send pictures. That's completely unreasonable and unsafe. The maintenance techs themselves have been respectful and honest—they've even said some things are beyond repair and need to be replaced. But FirstKey constantly delays real fixes, looking for cheaper alternatives instead of actually solving problems. The techs are left to patch things that clearly need full replacement. And now let's talk about the billing mess: I'm being charged in June for utilities from February—why am I getting billed four months later? My sewer charges are higher than my water usage, which doesn't add up I'm being charged for gas, even though I haven't used my stove or heat for weeks On top of everything else, the rental insurance we're required to use through FirstKey's provider has also gone up—from $100 last year to $175 this year. That's a 75% increase with no explanation and no improvement in coverage. Just another hidden cost added on top of everything else. And if that wasn't enough, I'm now being hit with a $300 rent increase, bringing my rent to $2,070/month starting in August. I only accepted it because I don't have the time or financial ability to move—not because it's reasonable. I'm paying luxury rent for a home with unresolved maintenance issues, pest problems, billing errors, and poor service. I've sent three detailed emails to FirstKey with no reply. Not even a "we're looking into it." The silence says everything. If you're thinking of renting from FirstKey Homes, be warned: They will ignore you They will delay necessary repairs They will mark unresolved issues as "completed" They will increase your rent and fees with no explanation I'm stuck here for now, but if you have other options—take them. You deserve better. —Rosa S
I recently ended my six-year lease with FirstKey Homes, and the move-out experience was beyond disappointing. Despite being a long-term, responsible tenant who maintained the home well, I was met with poor communication, zero follow-through, and an unjustified $300 deduction from my security deposit. Their March 19th email promised a pre-moveout inspection — yet no one ever contacted me to schedule one. I received a generic email with instructions to drop off the key, and that was it. No inspection, no clear documentation of fees, no transparency. Then I was charged for painting — something that should fall under normal wear and tear, especially after six years, and particularly insulting considering they're selling the home. This company's handling of my departure was unprofessional and inconsiderate. After six years of on-time payments and property care, I expected a basic level of respect and communication — and received none. I would never recommend FirstKey Homes to anyone. Save yourself the stress and choose a company that values its tenants.
If I had the option to leave a zero-star review, I absolutely would! My experience with First Key Homes over the past six years has been nothing short of disappointing, and I would never recommend them to anyone. After six years of being a loyal tenant, they made the decision to sell the home I was living in without any prior communication beyond a single certified mail letter. No phone call, no email, no courtesy to inform me directly or discuss my options. The complete lack of transparency and communication was both frustrating and unprofessional. When I reached out to request an extension to properly prepare for my move, they begrudgingly granted me only two additional weeks—at an outrageously high cost. Instead of showing consideration for a long-term tenant, they chose to exploit the situation by demanding an unreasonable amount of money for just two extra weeks of residence. This company lacks integrity, professionalism, and basic human decency. They do not value their residents, only their bottom line. If you are considering renting from them, I strongly urge you to do extensive research before signing anything. Their unethical practices and disregard for tenant well-being make them an absolute nightmare to deal with. Save yourself the frustration, stress, and financial burden—do not waste your time or money with First Key Homes!
I have been a resident with First Key home for 6 years and my recent experience with them was handled poorly. I would not recommend anyone to rent with them, unless you want to be scammed. As a rental property management company they rarely provide repairs to your home, most of the responsibility is on the tenant. Even though you request on the portal for a maintenance request, they will schedule it and then when they get there tell you they can't fix it and you will be charged $105 for the visit. This company is unprofessional and definitely would not recommend them to anyone looking for a quality rental property management company!
They are the worst, we had multiple safety and maintenance issues in rental property. They dragged their feet and took months to attempt to resolve including issues with the baby's nursery and holes in the deck. We moved out by the end of our lease and they still found a loop hole to bill us more for insufficient notice of move out even though we provided verbal and written notice multiple times over a month in advance. They run a filthy scheme, tenants beware.
DO NOT RENT. FirstKey homes cause health issues. In May 2024 a FirstKey home in Lawrenceville Georgia, that my girlfriend rented experienced septic/sewage back up causing the two toilets in the house to overflow with raw sewage that leaked into the hallways and master bedroom/closet as well through the carpet/baseboard underneath the house to the slab. This sewage was not disinfected, and new carpeting was just placed over the dry soiled baseboard. We had to pay to have mold/sewage inspectors to come run tests that showed the sewage bacteria in the house was far beyond the habitable amount. This sewage bacteria caused us to come down with a slew of respiratory issues that we are still dealing with having since moved from that house. Detailed reports can be provided upon request. FirstKey do not care about the quality of the home only that they can rent it.
Had to stay in a hotel until the issue was fixed. That stay started around the end of May 2024 until the beginning of July 2024. FirstKey charged rent for a home that was inhabitable and has not been reimbursed for the cost of staying in the hotel. Once notified that the "repairs" were completed in the beginning of July we started to experience various respiratory issues. This caused us to have a professional inspect the mold/sewage bacteria levels in the house. It was determined that the sewage bacteria levels in the house were far beyond the habitable threshold. Reports can be provided upon request.
We are still waiting for a resolution from FirstKey. We have moved everything that was not soiled in the house, but a majority of the items had to be left in the house as they were soiled with sewage bacteria. Please do not rent from FirstKey Homes. We have experience financial hardship by the lack of care from FirstKey Homes. I just want to share information that companies like FirstKey Homes do not care about your health or safety, they only care if you pay them rent each month.
They ignore even emergency maintenance requests and will let you go without heat, a/c, running water, hot water, you name it. Contacting a property manager is impossible since they keep the information secret. Calling them means getting a customer service agent in the Philippines who is only able to "escalate" your emergencies to let the local office know. And nothing happens. You are left to rot.
I wish I had never moved into one of their properties. I will avoid them from now on and tell everyone I know not to rent from them.
I am currently a resident without AC in Arizona for the past 13 days. They are fully aware and have yet to contact me on next steps. I cannot get through to anyone, everyone states "I will request a call back", I ask to speak to a supervisor, and they absolutely refused to get me one. Their calls are recorded so I cannot wait if/when it goes to court. Maintenance will not call me back; I have requested a portable at least 5 times. I have 3 young children and dogs. Some of us don't have close support to where I can go and stay. As a property management company, I expected more. I have filed with the BBB, I have given a 5-day notice to repair, and currently seeking a lawyer. Media is going to be my next step very shortly. They have not given me any accommodations or offered.
I rented a home in Georgia online as I was moving there. Got there not even a key.seems it was forgotten about. A total mess photos were from when they bought it. Took many many repairs.we had to stay in a hotel. It was a never ending issue with things falling apart. I put in 60 day notice.pre move out their agent told me it was perfect move in ready! It was spotless.here comes my deposit refund.took out a late fee.it was not late ever.money for a shelf they put up.then tried to hit me money to clean carpet in 2 bedrooms that were not used at all! Impossible to get copies of utility bills as its in their name.after much threatening to take them to court.finally my late fee, carpet fee and shelf fees are being reversed.one thing i can tell you get it all in writing.do not let them take advantage of you.take them to court. Avoid them at all costs!
Customer service = great puppets. Not there fault only doing what told. Great awards for place to work and owners but nothing for great actual homes. Didn't even get to move in. So they got me on legal technology as why they wont give deposit back. Would hate this for a family or someone who is not as fortunate as me on income.
AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE IT IS. It hasn't been two weeks since we go the keys. The day we got our keys I found a 2.5 to 3 inch puddle of water on the floor of the second story bathroom along with the damaged drywall ceiling coming down. The HVAC was clearly broken and they did an extremely subpar job fixing it. It's been not even two weeks and it's out and water is pooling in multiple different places on the system and the pan has water pooling in the pan again … did I mention it hasn't been 2 weeks… the second story where all the bedrooms are is 87 degrees. When you call the "emergency line" (that's a joke) it'll go to some call center and they can't do anything about it. If you lease from this company just expect to be ghosted at every possible turn. They only care about your money and not the homes.
We are good people in a world of greed. They are lazy, and won't fix anything. But if things break, they will come after you. I'm glad I own now, they make renting suck. Like a smart black laddie once told me, you all need Jesus. Something is wrong with you guys. Just because we don't rent anymore, dosent give you the rite to act like children. We don't owe you anything. God bless you evil people. Trying to take aventege of and old laddie.
NO RENTES EN FIRST KEY HOMES.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! Super unprofessional. They lie to you you, do not call people back, will keep you in a hot house with NO AC in 100 degrees weather in Texas heat. Customer service reps are rude and disrespectful and NO ONE KNOW WHAT THE OTHER DOES! This company will take your money and ignore you after they receive your signed lease. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and RUN from this company!
I issued prior notification to First Key's office on 3/1/24 that my lease would not be renewed and terminated on the lease ending date and that the move out would commence and complete on 5/14/24. I did my due diligence and issued that notice more than 60 days before the lease termination. I am legally bound to give only one notice in the state of Georgia. On May 1st, 2024 I called in because their office neglected to adjust my account accordingly with the prorated rent for the month of May 2024. I never received any calls from their office scheduling a move out inspection as stated would be done in the lease agreement, so I will have to assume that they did not update the termination date on my account. I have since received notification that First Key has charged me for the full month of May 2024 rent, some sort of insufficient notice fee, and the month of June 2024 rent. I requested to receive, in writing, from their office that they have cleared those balances from my account immediately. I requested to receive this notice by 6/7/2024, or I would have no choice but to go to court where I will sue for Declaratory Relief and ask the court to make a judgement that I am not liable for any money due after the rightful termination of my lease with your company. I submitted a BBB complaint to help enforce my request and resolution with First Key. To date, I have not received a resolution. Be wary of First Key and their move out tactics.
Answer:Impossible. They do not respond to your emails or voice message (and they never answer the phone)...that's even true if they contact you first. I received an email about my move out inspection. I responded. They didn't show up, nor did they return my 3 emails or 3 voice messages. Moved out without being allowed to attend the inspection. Then they charged me for stuff I'd already paid to have done. That's how they steal from you.
