I had been ordering prescription eyeglasses both clear and tinted sunglasses from Hidalgos for 25 years. Jim had all the right stuff, large big lens frames, cable temples, Brown 3 glass, bridge straps, fast, friendly and accurate service. But they are gone now, retired. So it was time to move on and find an eyeglass company that had all the right stuff. Eyeglasses.com has met almost all those needs save one, bridge strap nose pieces and those are available elsewhere. The selection of frames and lenses at Eyeglasses.com is excellent. Turnaround time on my first order of clear Zeiss glass SV with Aristar 6102 frames and cable temples was a little over three weeks. On my second order of Zeiss brown transitions glass SV also with Aristar 6102 frames and cable temples was one week. I believe the first order was delayed because they had to wait on the cable temples from the manufacturer. Also, the cable temples were not originally listed I had to ask for them and they checked with the manufacturer and updated their website so I could order them. That's great customer service. I had been used to Nikon and Menrad large frames with cable temples from Hidalgos. These Aristar 6102s are even larger which for me is good. I like glasses with a large vision aperture. I don't care if they look old. Lots of sharp, clear vision area is far more important to me. The Aristars are made in China not Japan or Germany. And they have spring hinges. So overall an acceptable compromise. I also don't like plastic lenses, I get persistent headaches that don't go away. There is more to it than just index of refraction. Even when the index of refraction is the same, glass lenses are always thinner. There is no matching the low dispersion and high abby value of quality glass. Check the Zeiss website for their explanation of the comparison between glass and plastic. If you know your glass, you already know this. Nikon patented the Extra Low Dispersion technology and I have other optical instruments that use Zeiss (Schott) and Nikon ED glass. There is no comparison to others. Zeiss and Nikon ED are unparalleled in optical performance. Unfortunately, Nikon ED is not available here for eyeglasses. But thankfully, Zeiss is. In the past I had always ordered brown 3 polarized glass prescription lenses for sunglasses. Which you can get from eyeglasses.com and Zeiss. So, for all those that used to deal with Jim at Hidalgos, I highly recommend Eyeglasses.com.

This order is so far fine. The only issue which I had was with a prior order when only two of three pairs of eyeglasses arrived and I received no information as to when or if the third pair would arrive. After waiting two weeks, I finally inquired and was told that the eyeglasses were no longer in stock. That information should have been conveyed to me prior to the sending of the other two pairs. Other than that, Eyeglasses.com has been terrific.

I have subsequently ordered more and I've been in constant contact with a representative if an item was not in stock. I most definitely recommend eyeglasses.com
