Owners & Renters: Check out what Expedia is doing since their acquisition of VRBO, Homeaway and Vacation Rentals. People are going crazy-angry! Search for VRBO- Complaints and see for yourselves. Renters have to pay a hidden cost to Expedia, but they think it's being paid to the owner of the property. Owners look like they're cheating their potential renter by Expedia adding the fee and not telling renters it is a booking fee made by them. For example, if you charge a new guest $2000, Expedia will add on anywhere from 3-10% to the fee and not tell the renter it is for them. Doesn't this violate contract agreements!? In my experience, it certainly does. Check it out for yourselves. Don't be fooled.

I booked a flight and ordered flight protection. I've used Expedia a lot, but this is the first time I cancelled. The experience is causing me to move away from this site. The primary compliant is that the whole experience of cancelling has been a time-consuming nightmare. Close behind is that Expedient is not forthcoming with details of flight protection.

The small annoyances. Cancelling could not be done online. I don't know why. Maybe because it was an international flight.

The larger annoyances - rep could not explain what flight protection gave me. After calling, the rep was able to cancel the flight, but could not cancel my ground transportation. The flight refund was limited to the cost minus a $150 fee. I've used several flight services and typically this is what you get, without purchasing flight insurance. I'm not sure what I was paying for. Neither was the rep.

Continued annoyances - when I wanted to use the refund, I could not find the credit to my account on-line. I called customer service. Apparently, you have to call customer service to use the refund. That's news. The agent took me through several flights. She asked questions about what options I would prefer, and I kept saying the cheaper one. But, when I asked for the price, she could not give me one. She told me she just makes the flights - then she transfers me to the person who can book the flight. According to her, she has no access to the flights. Uhhh... all expedient does is provide a product for certain prices - why give someone half the access?

Because I was being transferred, I asked for the phone of the person that books the flight in case I was disconnected. She could not give it to me. I have to call the original number back and wait to be transferred. My transfer time was over 20 minutes, and I'm still waiting...

I'm leaving expedient. I don't feel they are an honest company.

I have not used Expedia extensively, but when I have, I have found service to be helpful. Once I made a mistake in dates that could have cost me a significant amount of money, but Expedia resolved my problem without costing me a penny.

Grossly Incompetent

I booked a flight for my mother through Expedia from the U.S. to Europe. A day before the flight I received a message from one of the airlines that the flight has been cancelled due to a strike in Germany. I called Expedia and after being placed on hold for about 45 minutes the Expedia agent simply hung up. After reaching Expedia again I was informed that all flights are confirmed and still valid.

Several hours later I received a call from my family in Europe asking if I have rebooked my moms flight since all the Lufthansa flights have been cancelled. I called Expedia and the agent was completely unaware of the cancelled flights and insisted that the flight would go on. In a meantime I have reached the airline and the airline confirmed that the flight has been officially cancelled more than a day earlier due to a strike. Upon my insistence, the Expedia agent went on Lufthansas website to confirm the information. Minutes later I was placed on hold for another 40 minutes. The call was disconnected by Expedia while I was on hold. All in all I had to call Expedia five times and the last time I was told that the flight was valid and that my mother should proceed with her travel. Have I trusted Expedia, my 80-year-old mom wouldve ended up stranded in Frankfurt.

Eventually I called the airline directly and the agent immediately informed me that the flight from Frankfurt has been cancelled. The airline rebooked the flight within minutes.

How was it possible that Expedias customer service didnt know about a massive Lufthansa strike that has been prominent in the news already for days? Expedias own system was showing flights as valid even a day after they were cancelled by the airline. Expedias gross incompetence and complete lack of customer support makes it perhaps the worst travel booking agency in the world.

I prefer Expedia over every other booking site. I like the reward system and I trust everything I find on there. I feel the ratings and the user reviews are extremely helpful. I did use another hotel site recently, but it was new and hasn't had much advertising, so I can't even remember the name. I wish Expedia had an even larger variety of hotel offerings, like that website had though.

I love traveling and I like a great accomodation, even better if I can find a website which puts trip and lodging together at great affordable prices. This is what Expedia does, and does it well. I've been able to find great prices for December in New York or a great weekend in Lisbon. Sometimes I also check Expedia to find deals within a few miles from where I live. I simply think this is one of the best websites for traveling and tourism.
They send tons of emails, so it's better you have a dedicated newsletter address to repvent your personal email from being flooded with their great offers, or simply change it once you've experienced the entity of their mails.
If you are looking for a great holiday, look no farther, you've already reached the best place.

Poor communication

One you buy a ticjket, they do not send you confirmation e mail like other website (Priceline). You will only find out when you log into your account.
I bought the same ticket twice b/c I thought the first purchase was not complete now I can not return the second flight ticket.

Expedia's Best Price Guarantee is a SCAM! I found a lower fare flight just 3 hours after I booked via Expedia.com. So I immediately sent an email with the requested proof asking them to honor their "Best Price Guarantee" (refund the difference and give a $50.00 voucher). I received an email stating that my proof wasn't sufficient, so (the same day) I sent more solid sources of proof (Jpeg, PDF) showing that it was the EXACT same flight! Over 3 weeks have passed, I have sent numerous emails with the correct information and proof that expedia requested, I have called customer service a few times and they just keeps telling me to email *******@expedia.com (which I have repeatedly) and I don't even receive a reply.
I am leaving poor reviews on all of the travel and review sites to let others know that Expedia's "Best Price Guarantee" is a scam and that Expedia does NOT honor what they advertise which is very unethical!

I made a hotel reservation in Feb. 2016 but later cancelled at the expedia website before free cancelation expired. Soon later I got an email from them asking me if my hotel registration went well. I got alarmed because I had cancelled and so, called expedia customer service. A staff told me that everything was up to the hotel and that she would call the hotel manager. Well that was strange as I had cancelled online as I had mentioned. She claimed that they had no record. Within the hour she called me back (at another hotel where I was staying) to inform me that the hotel manager had been out and that he was the only one who could take care of it. She would try again but I never heard from her again.
Back at home, I tried unsuccessfully to straighten this out through email with expedia customer service. They denied having any record of my phone call to customer service (!) and thus everything else. This exchange by email went on for weeks and in the middle I had requested to speak with their management by name. Instead of that I was sent a general customer service number, a number I could not use for free because of being abroad. I then searched the internet to find out that it is practically impossible to do what I wanted according to various people who have tried to speak directly with someone in expedia management. Given the difficulty, the likely high phone costs, and being so busy at work, I gave up out of frustration. I am determined never to give business to expedia and its associated companies ever again. In the end, I believe they will lose out more than my own loss, for I do extensive travel each year. In my mind, expedia unquestionably is a bunch of thieves.

The fact that there is always some one picking up the phone is good enough to shop from them. One time flight was canceled and before I made it to the airline customer service line Expedia travel agent fixed me on the next flight 1 hour later.

Very convenient website to use.
