Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

I bought tickets for two passengers with Expedia, and following a mistake of mine (wrong departure date for one of the passengers) had to call their services to change the date (same day of the purchase). Their agent changed the date of flight but put it in the name of the person who had the proper flight date from the beginning, so in the end I had two tickets for one person, and none for the second one.
When calling back Expedia to correct this, I had to buy a new flight, and they would reimburse the first one and the price difference between the first and second one. Long story short, been calling every week for one month, they accumulated mistakes, until I had to yell this morning of despair in the quality of their service. Once I got really angry I was finally put on line with a manager (had to stay on line 50 mn saying I wouldn't hang up until I can talk with a manager, customer service techniques that come from 30 years ago) who was able to put the reimbursment through in 5 mn. I wasted at least 6 hours on the phone with their services, and had to get angry to finally obtain the service they were supposed to provide me.
Never again will I use their services, and don't advise anyone to do so neither.
Booked and got a great price months away. Verified my flight and no flight! Expedia forgot to contact United. Days, hour or so with Expedia support, no change. Watch out for meaningless phrases like 'last room!' '45% booked' 'book today save $120' there is no truth behind this. It's marketing crap.
I booked a flight and hotel through Expedia. Charged for 2 people. E-mailed itinerary has 1 person in it, but the price and what appeared on my credit card statement is the 2 person price. Tried the same deal again on Expedia just to check, same price for 2 people, not 1. Called customer service. Asked me to forward the itinerary. She said she couldn't do anything because my itinerary only has 1 person on it... but it also has the price on it which is the 2 person price. 1 hour later customer service had to escalate it because she doesn't have the authority to go against the itinerary. They'll get back to me in 2 business days.
UPDATE: They never got back to me. Response to another e-mail said the same thing: My receipt said $(2 person price which is way way too much for 1 person) for 1 person's worth of tickets, so there's nothing they could do. Do not use Expedia. The website will scam you out of what you paid and after hours and hours on customer service they will never ever fix it. Save your money by using another company or booking your hotel and flight directly with the appropriate companies. It's not worth it to save a few bucks here and there and then lose several hundred dollars and several hours when they screw up and refuse to pay for it.
Expedia has been one of my top in the list where it comes to travel and flights. I have always had good deals and fantastic offers on hotels and holiday packages. I always recommend friends and family and i will continue to do so.
I booked a room at a hotel through Expedia. I got a confirmation email and all was good. The room was cancelled an hour later because the hotel already had a booking earlier that day through their own website. No one ever contacted me. When I logged on and found out (the night before my trip) I called the hotel and they said it was Expedia's responsibility to let me know. I never got an email or phone call.
Worsted company that I saw!
I bought a ticket with protection plan that says refundable up to total flight cost.
But when I cancel the flight they does not want to return money. They make me credit to expedia and I can buy another ticket only from them, and they charge 200$ for this cancellation.
Mom booked a 2 bedroom condo through Expedia for a week. We arrive to a 1 bedroom condo but are paying for the 2. The hotel says there are no more 2 bedrooms and we have to talk to Expedia to get reimbursed. Expedia confirms that we were supposed to have 2 bedrooms and only offers a $100 credit towards our next booking. Um no. We paid in full to have 2 bedrooms. This is not okay.
Booked a hotel for a colleague and used my cc to reserve it, the cc wasn't supposed to be charged. The colleague paid with his cc, it shows on the receipt. Found out my cc and their cc was charged. Expedia said it wasn't charged, had to do a charge back with my bank. Will never book anything through them for work matters. Never have an issue with priceline.
First I tried to book my package holiday and their website said 4 tickets available on the flight and the accomodation had 6 rooms left. Proceed to booking and total invoice was $4500, click finalize and promted with a cannot proceed message. Contact Expedia directly and after an hour on the phone they explain that the flight is booked out as their website doesn't update immediately (not my fault but now my problem) but if I pay another $211 they will get me the seats... Bill now goes to $4711... Customer service was non existent and finally after nearly 1.5 hours on the phone I get confirmation all is finalized but had to book immediately as i was warned it prices would go up by hundreds of dollars in the next hour if I didn't commit to the extra charges. Receive my itinerary and click on the hotel link and funny enough i can get the same hotel, room etc for $120 less than what I just paid... 40 mins later and after sending a number of screen shots through to Expedia I receive a price match and a $50 credit (cant use for this booking though)... I then go to book another hotel and guess what - cant use the credit as it doesnt meet the terms and conditions (which you cannot find on the website)... Call Expedia and was on the phone for another 40 mins trying to get a clear answer as to why I could not use my promotional voucher which could not be answered. The agent then charged my credit card the full amount without my authorisation then advised that I would receive a $56 reimbursement. This is not acceptable as I did not provide authority to make this charge at the full rate and what happens if my credit card did not have the available funds? Would Expedia pay my credit card overcharge fee? Never again will I use this service. For the sake of paying a few dollars more I will use a face to face travel agent for all bookings or source another online provider that is simple and easy to deal with. Holidays are supposed to be enjoyable but this has already ruined my experience and I have no confidence that these bookings including flights will be confirmed as per my specific requests as all transactions with Expedia were conducted over the phone via a poor phone connection with a so called customer service agent that did not have a clear understanding of my requests. Never again will I use or recommend Expedia. The biggest mistake I made was not looking at previous customer reviews online before using this service I now understand why there is a 1 out of 5 overall customer experience rating.
FACE IT, THEY GET A KICK BACK FOR EVERY SERVICE THAT GOES THRU THEM. SO OF COURSE THEY WANT YOU TO BOOK WITH THEM, EVEN IF THEY HAVE TO BUMP A HOTEL'S STAR RATING FROM 2 TO 4. HAVE USED THEM TWICE, ENDED UP NOT STAYING INBOOKED HOTEL EITHER TIME. BOTH WERE SUPPOSEDLY 4 STAR UNITS, BOTH HAD NO SECURITY SFTER 10PM, AND NO WAY TO CONTACT THEM. BOTH HAD PEOPLE OPENING SELLING DRUGS AND PROSTITUTION IN THE LOBBY, RIGHT UNDER THE MANAGER'S NOSE. THE ROOMS WERE FILTHY ANDNONE OF THE EXPECTED AMENITIES WERE THERE, EVEN THOSE THEY CHARGED EXTRA FOR. JUST USE THE YELLOW PAGES AND ASK QUESTIONS, YOU CAN'T DEPEND ON THE OPINION OF SOMEONE WHO S GETTING PAID BY THE ENTITY YOUR INQUIRING ABOUT.
I have used Expedia multiple times and have not encountered any major problems. The site is easy to use, which makes traveling easier.
Con: If there are any problems with your travel arrangements (ex. Hotel), you are unable to get a direct refund from the hotel. On one occasion I had a problem with the hotel room that I was staying in and I spoke with a hotel manager about my concerns. He was very attentive and apologetic about the situation and said he would issue a refund for the night due to the inconvenience. Unfortunately, since I booked through Expedia and not directly through the hotel, he was unable to issue a refund. I appreciated his attempt and willingness to listen to me and not blow me off simply because I purchased the room at a lower rate on a discount site. Although I told the manager it was okay, he still wanted to do something for me so he upgraded the room, waived the resort fee, and issued a $50 voucher to be used at any of the hotel restaurants, bars, spa, etc. Although this manager was incredibly generous, most will NOT go out of their way to provide this type of customer service once they find out that you made your purchase on a discount site.
Expedia working with United Airline and stole my money... they do not give you refund with 24hr and will give you a running a round
The most difficult exercise for an international traveler, in difficulty, is to reach Expedia support after you've purchased a ticket and wish to update, especially in an emergency. There is a "Contact Us" link at the website that amounts to nothing. Sure, there is a contact number (1 *******787) for international users like myself, but you are put on hold for an eternity. Businesses genuinely wishing to assist customers would, in 2017, make all relevant methods of communication available to them for contact purposes. And that includes Email and online chat. The customer can then be told or directed via a link to a page where necessary changes and updates to tickets can be made and the relevant price increase and/or service fees paid. You do make commissions from the fares customers pay to purchase a ticket. Therefore, servicing the customers is not much to ask.
I booked a trip from Philadelphia to Zurich. As soon as I clicked confirmed and checked my itinerary, all the dates were changed, they added an EXTRA rental car with insurance, and my hotel dates were wrong. Luckily I bought insurance which really doesn't even do much I learned while speaking to someone from overseas on the customer support line. It takes 7 days to refund, yet they want to charge me for the new updated bookings. Like I can afford to keep adding $700 dollar payments to my card. Trash.
Don't waste your time purchasing from Expedia. These days you can get a much better price directly from the airline you wish to fly. And, you can often book hotels and cars through the airline instead of going elsewhere. Expedia had a good idea back in the day. But, now that everyone has caught up, your best bet is to book through the airline you want or just go to a broker of travel. It is interesting that you can find better deals these days yourself than you can online through Expedia. But that is what the Internet is becoming.
"Expedia is where you book cheap travel packages, what's more do your expect." Honestly their help desk person Christina made sure I know about that! I asked how come they don't have a pop out window or some sort of courtesy reminder.
Warning: if you are holding a chinese passport and US Visa be sure to apply electronic visa as well!
I had to cancel the whole trip because I did not know that.
I stayed on the phone with Christina for over an hour try to minimize the cancellation fees however sounds like they are trained to repeat same sentence till you give up.
I understand why now because I finally got hold of their service manage Michelle in lasvegas and she reminded me that all travellers are responsible for their own travel (like I do know that common sense). Terrible service and VERY poor people skills. I was even more upset after hearing her lecture. Will never book their ever again!
Also do you know Expedia owns all these online booking companies? It crazy a company wth so many terrible reviews has so many brands.

I booked a bundle deal from New York to Sao Paulo and soon realized that I paid more on Expedia than I would have if I booked the flight separately and the hotel on the hotel's website. I reached out to Expedia and they have refused to help.
Stay away from the bundle deals! Its fake 70% off, I ended up paying more and now I cant get a refund or cancel!
Tried to book hotel in Greece with Expedia.
There was an error during booking, i havent recieved my booking or any kind of confirmation but the funds are reserved!
I contacted Expedia via email, got no response. Clled their customer servica and spoke with a robot who doesnt give a **** about my booking.
They said they will call me next day about the reservation and that hotel will also call me. I postponed some meetings because i was expecting their calls. NO ONE CALLED!
I called the customer service again, they said they can not provide me with the booking? I said that is ok, than release the funds you reserved. They said they can not do that? I should contact paypal?
Spoke with supervisor who started YELLING AT ME? I suppose becaus eshe is frustrated or somethig?
After one week recieved email answer they could not locate me. Money is still reserved.
Now i can not continue palling my vacation because my funds are reserved and I DID NOT RECIEVE ANY BOOKING or SERVICE!
If you have enough money and time to spend hours with their robot usleless support go ahead and book with those crooks, liers and thieft!
Used them to book hotels for my family holidays. The website is easy to use. They had the best rates. Once i booked on the website I rechecked it with the hotels. All in all it was good experience.
Answer: You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.
Answer: Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!
