Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

Here is a summary of what happened.
I searched for Hotels and found one whose price appealed to me. I decided to book it. I was informed of the price breakdown on the screen showing a room rate of $53 CAD a night and $4 in taxes. This gave me a total of $692 CAD. I accepted this rate and got a screen confirmation of the transaction. I then used the Print tab to print a receipt for my records. A few minutes later I received an email confirmation that the charge is $893 and not $692. I tried to explain this to the customer services agent at Expedia with no success.
Getting help when things go wrong is virtually impossible for bookings made through Expedia. And try getting a receipt from a hotel booked via Expedia... won't happen! I am looking for a new travel source!
Ive booked several trips through Expedia, without a problem. Last weekend, I booked a flight on a Saturday with their 24 hour no charge cancellation. Monday morning I found I needed to change the dates of the flight. AA wouldnt waive the $200. Change fee, on the non refundable flight. I called Expedia, explained my problem, and the rebooked my flight, with full refund! They explained the 24 hour policy meant business work days, so Sunday didnt count. I wrote recommendation for Expedia on all my social media, after that! So great to find a company worthy of a positive review! Thank you, Expedia!
Bought 2 tickets with multi-city itinerary through Expedia. Missed one leg of the flight (Seattle to Taipei) due to daylight savings. Hey, it happens. Was prepared to pay penalty and rebook on the next flight. Was on hold with Expedia for over an hour just to hear them say they can't do anything and the carrier had cancelled all our reservations (the no-show outbound flight and all the subsequent return flights to board 10 days and 20 days from now). We would lose over $2000 and we would need to rebook everything. What was the point of booking with Expedia? It wasn't that much cheaper, if at all any cheaper. There was NO customer service to speak of when there was a problem.
Expedia offered NO solutions and was totally unprofessional and useless. Will buy direct from airlines from now on. No wonder Expedia stock declined 13% since October.
When I booked the combination of flights with a car rental, I didn't get my discount of 85 euro. I showed on the computer screen, but in the final booking, I had to pay the separat prices. After contacting the 'service desk', I got the answer, 'yes your right, but I can't help you'.
Booked holiday & flight through them on 7th January 2017, and have had nothing but problems. Two flight changes, so cancelled that & re-booked elsewhere, just had to change hotel that had been booked, awaiting a part refund, awaiting revised ATOL certificate... going in 1 weeks time!
They are an absolute nightmare to deal with, either on phone or by email.
Will definitely note be using them again!
Unfortunately have had to award 1 star, as that is lowest possible option. Would have given zero if that was there.
They had issues with a flight that I had to book as an emergency and they cancelled it and all they offered was a 25$ gift card
NOT RECOMENDED I LOST MY VCATIONS BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE MY RENTAL CAR, I GOT THE PRICE OF $ 280 ON EXPEDIA AND AT THE EZ COMPANY I WOULD LIKE TO CHARGE ME AS $ 1000, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY,
They booked my family and. At a hotel when we got to the hotel they said they have no rooms they been full for a week for a horse show and couldn't help us. Had to drive another hour away to a hotel not the town we wanted and by the way this is around 11 pm been driving for 12 1/2 hours really needed to sleep so NOT EVER GOING to us them again they wouldn't refund our money for 3 to 7 days. Again NOT HAPPY WITH THEM.
I attempted to book a simple one night hotel stay using the Expedia website (expedia.co.nz in this instance).
First problem: the website altered my booking dates to something completely spurious (not a typo!). I noticed this before submitting, changed it back and then sent off the booking. Expedia's automated booking reply acknowledged the booking but confirmed it was for spurious dates again!
Second problem: despite multiple polite communications via their customer services website and their phone number over two weeks, and despite having direct email communication with the hotel agreeing to alter the dates, nine different Expedia customer services representatives have been involved and zero progress has been made. The Expedia complaints online form has repeatedly given an error message rather than submit my subsequent complaint and the customer services people refuse to escalate my concerns.
Therefore it is impossible to deal with this company if it makes a mistake. Since this mistake seems to have occurred after submitting a booking request digitally, this means that there is no redress and no way to advise fellow travellers to be careful. Our money is lost and yours would be too.
We will avoid Expedia from now on. We suggest you do the same since this experience has been frequently reported in web forums internationally over several years!
I paid $109.99 for a hotel through Expedia that I could have paid $87.99 straight through the hotel. They are a rip off, so watch your wallet when you use them. I never will use them again.
I will buy southwest before I buy here again. They have hidden rules that you would never know about until you buy. I lost 150 with them. Why didn't I get the travel protection you ask? Even I had Expedia informed me that the only way they refund anyone is if they have proof of emergency. Like if I had to go to the hospital or something. I can't just call and say hey I want to cancel my flight. Sad thing was I wanted to cancel my flight almost two months in advance and still couldn't get refunded
I would give Expedia negative stars. They are by far the worst booking website. For starters, they are thieves. I had to rebook my flight and hotel bundle to Chicago twice due to a mistake on their end and because I was with them on the for over 7 times waiting for my money to get back on my card to rebook the prices went sky high thus I demanded a coupon and they gave me 200$ off to repurchase the bundle and when I did and try to complete the booking it would say that the "price went up two hundred more dollars" and would not let me book for the deal that I had thus I had to change my flight and everything and the coupon finally worked when I payed the extra two hundred... ironic. Biggest thieves ever. Worst customer service. Stay away from them there's other websites that are far better and have even better deals they arent even worth the hassle.
Hopefully, this helps someone!
I was excited about Expedia because a couple of my friends work for them as software engineers, and I like to support their company, but this will be the last.
Expedia has a price match guarantee on hotels, which I thought was nice and I booked a Vegas hotel through them a couple months ago. Well in the recent days this Vegas hotel has lowered its price significantly, and Expedia's policy states, if you find it cheaper you will receive the lower rate, and a $50 Hotel credit for your next trip.
I was rejected for the lower price (From a competitors website) and submitted another claim, this time FROM THEIR OWN website which the hotel is now listed as $100+ Cheaper, and of course, they have not responded in 10 days.
I reached out to customer service and they refused to give me the credit, but they said they would cancel my old reservation and book a new one for the lower price. That would be fine and dandy, except your policy clearly states that I deserve a $50 Credit for my next stay, and they said they absolutely would not give me the credit.
Seems like this is just another scam to me.
Expedia has a reputation of reliability. My experience is that you reliably pay more. They entice you by giving you points and you think that means something. It doesn't.
I was just looking at a hotel. Almost all the rates, including the hotel's, said the room was $104. I went on Expedia and when I identified myself as an Expedia member suddenly the rate went to $106 - and that was after using 229 Expedia points. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
I was unable to change my hotel reservation from two days to one on the website. I was forced to cancel and re-book at a 50% higher rate. Very aggravating.
There is no point in contacting Expedia team. Simply waste the mobile talktime balance... already wasted 10 GBP within that. Also there is no point in as you lied in mail:
Airline rules + restrictions
We understand that sometimes plans change. We do not charge a cancel or change fee. When the airline charges such fees in accordance with its own policies, the cost will be passed on to you.
I personally called to Oman Air they told me that you wont charge anything.
If your travel agency wants make any changes they will do it by themselves without taking the charges. However they can't change travel agency's policy.
Anyways, its my biggest mistake I booked the flight ticket with you for the first time & last time in entire life. I'll convey the same message this
Social media platform before they make such kind mistake while booking flight tickets with Expedia.
This is the 2nd time I've booked through Expedia and I have had bad experiences both times. The first time I had a long lay over and tried to change it before my trip and they said they could not help me unless I paid over a thousand dollars so I'm had a 9 hour overlay stuck In an airport over night.
Right now I checked my itinerary and my return flight is different from what I clicked on and I've been trying to call, I've been on hold for an hour and 15 minutes and someone finally got on the phone and put me on hold again without helping me with anything! I am so angry right now and I will never book through this site again I'm still on hold right now and I don't even know if they are even going to fix the problem, let alone if anyone ever gets on the phone! NEVER AGAIN!
In the past it was one of the best (if not the best) websites where you could book air travels, hotels, rent car etc at the best price with a very large selection. Since some years, with the arrival of several fierce competitors their capability to offer the best services (lower prices, better combination package, better conditions, better support) seems to be faded especially in the customer "general protection and treatment", not offering the customers, anymore, the "security" that they were used to offer in the past.
I recently purchased an airplane ticket on Expedia and after that they showed some hotel offers which I proceeded to reserve. No where did I find the hotels was prepaid
The trip, which was for a diving expedition to Mexico, was cancelled by the boat company due to an impending Hurricane so I called to cancel. Much to my surprise, the hotel had been prepaid an they refused a refund.
I will never again buy anything prepaid from Expedia and try to avoid using Expedia for any kind of travel in the future. When I reserved it was never clear the hotel was prepaid and I feel ripped off.
Beware... use any other service except Expedia, your prepayment and conditions of a reservation are not indicated when you reserve
Answer: You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.
Answer: Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!
