Expedia Reviews Summary

Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

On't book cruises with Expedia. They make offers for onboard credit just like the cruise companies do but, unlike the other companies they hide forms in the small print that you have to complete so, that you don't get your credit. If I would have booked my cruise directly with the cruise company I would have received the credit. Instead Expedia pocketed my money. The topic of conversation on the shuttle back was how none of us got our onboard credit from Expedia. In one van there was 3 couples who were swindled, can you imagine how many people Expedia takes advantage of in a day? Dirty company! Beware!

This is the travel insurance that you "purchase", the only choice as far as I know. I have 6 upcoming trips booked with Expedia and will NEVER book with them again. My husband and son were suppose to go to Haiti on a mission trip that was canceled due to civil unrest and they were concerned with safety for the team. Aon travel insurance let us know today after weeks of no response that they would not be covering any of it. I have spent thousands of dollars through Expedia and who knows how much on travel insurance that I have NEVER even used. So this one time I am requesting a refund due to a situation completely out of our control and they won't even cover a penny. Looks like I will be taking my business elsewhere. Now I have been on hold for over 30 minutes getting the run around from Expedia and now they want me to call the travel insurance back. As a business owner I try to go above and beyond for people. I am just very disappointed.

I think this is a very good website which will always give best options. I have used it several times. I either use Travelopod or Expedia. I always get the best deals with both these websites. 5 stars to both!

Avoid
December 12, 2019

There are so many online options these days that Expedia should not have to be one of your considerations. They might appear to have good prices but beware. In one single trip their baggage cost details were grossly misleading and added cost to the airline ticket afterwords. Their assistance when something went majorly wrong with one of the tickets in our travel group was outrageously poor, to the extent that we simply had to buy a new ticket right there on the airport before departure. A mess up with the car rental booking that was corrected on Expedia's online chat was never completed according to them and lead to a cancellation, loss of payment and having to pay for a new car when we arrived at our destination... Now I have travel extensively all my life and never seen anything like this. If you expect NO PROBLEMS at all when you travel, by all means use Expedia. If you think you may run into even the smallest and snafu, avoid Expedia because all you'll get from them is an offer of a $50 Expedia voucher for the next time you book a disastrous trip thru them!

We have been booking with Expedia for several years and have spent thousands of dollars with them! Our most recent booking to Nairobi from Amsterdam we were booked on a flight with a layover in Paris instead of a direct flight, of which we were unaware. When we requested a rebooking on the direct flight Expedia lied to us and said that in our "recorded phone conversation" we stated we did not want a direct flight and would prefer a stop over in Paris. WHAT? How much sense does that make? But after FOUR hours on the phone they would not budge and wanted to charge us almost $2000 to change our flight. I will never use Expedia again - they did not present us with the preferable options, then they lied to us about it, their management customer service was difficult to understand and uncooperative and they did not stand behind a long standing loyal customer. Never ever use them again!

I booked a hotel on expedia and realized I made an error while feeding details. I immediately canceled the booking on the website. Then saw a better deal on booking.com and booked two rooms from the same.

As my stay date was approaching, I kept receiving multiple reminders from booking.com about my stay, if I need to revise any booking details, etc but absolutely no communication from expedia.

I reached the hotel as per my booking, and asked them for two rooms as booked on booking.com. To my shock the hotel manager said I have 3 rooms booked under my name - 2 on booking.com and 1 on expedia! I told him I had canceled the expedia booking but he said his system is showing the booking is on. Expedia T&C said 60% of the payment will be advance deducted by the hotel before the stay and 40% there at the hotel. However the Hotel had not deducted any advance payment and expedia had not sent any communication which could tell me that my booking was not cancelled!

Both my hotel manager and me tried to contact Expedia through all the options available on their site - toll free number, chat bots, emails and still could not get through anyone at Expedia.

Finally I had to pay Rs 5000 for a room in which I did not stay at all and that really pinched me. Was really disappointed with absolutely no support from expedia in the scenario where there was an error in their system.

I was so happy with booking.com and completely reverse experience with expedia in the same trip!

Great app and support
October 8, 2019

I enjoy having all my travel information and itinerary streamlines and available through their app, including flight times, reminders to check in, hotel and car rental information. Prices on flights are not the lowest and some careful browsing can save you some money though.

I made a reservation for an SUV class vehicle that I would pick up at the Enterprise rent-a-car company in Santa Maria, CA. However, when I got to the Enterprise counter, they told me there were no cars available. I pleaded for a car for a while, but to no avail. Since I had booked through Expedia, I called them up and of course they were of no use in finding me a car. They did say they would refund me any difference between the cost of another rental in the same class and whatever Lyft or Uber charges I accrued getting to Santa Barbara, and what they had quoted me for my rental car. Fortunately, the Budget rental shop people next door were very nice and found me a car at the Santa Barbara Airport 60 miles south. In the end it cost me (including the Lyft ride to Santa Barbara) $140 dollars more than the car I had reserved through Expedia. However, when I filed a claim with Expedia to get a refund for the difference, they told me since I had not paid Expedia in advance (not sure what happened here; I gave them my credit card number when I made the reservation), they would not refund the difference. Therefore, this bad review. Advise readers to (1) don't book through Expedia; (2) avoid reserving a rental car in a small town, but instead make reservation at large airports if possible, where cars come in more frequently. I intend to reserve a car directly through the rental company in the future, at airports, if possible.

Expedia deserves Zero stars
September 23, 2019

I booked tickets in February for Christmas holiday through Expedia with Thomas Cook. So today Thomas Cook collapses and I call Expedia to find out about getting a refund. I've been on the phone with them for over 7 hours. Each time speaking to a higher and higher supervisor. The first clerk was polite and helpful, the second one Irisa was extremely helpful, the third one Dez was arrogant and condescending. Turns out when you give Expedia your credit card they give it to another airline to charge you so my booking was with Condor because they are the issuing agents for Thomas Cook. Condor tells you to contact Thomas Cook, which I can't do since they are closed and no one is answering the phones. Expedia will not agree to issue a letter on my behalf to the bank, they will not ask Condor to do that on my behalf. All he told me is that I should take up the claim the the credit card company. When I explained that my bank is not just going to refund me the money for a flight that is now no longer because they have already paid that money since February he really couldn't care less. All he wanted to point out to me is that Expedia only made $7.92 on my booking! Really? Maybe he could have looked at my history and see how many bookings I had made in the past which I will never make again. Expedia as long as you have rude "supervisors" like Dez you will continue to lose customers!. There are plenty other travel booking sites online

Expedia doesn't come through when you have a problem with the reservation you made through them. I called Expedia to ask my questions and still experienced problems when traveling. When following up with Expedia, they refused to do anything to fix the issue.

Worst company for booking... now I have a ticket with LEVEL 1 Airline to come home from London, when I booked British Airways... Your supervisor from Oklahoma has been yelling at me for 30 minutes and your OFFLINE ticketing is not responding to my request to change the ticket to an airline that is not going out of business! SCAM, FALSE ADVERTISING! I AM OUT $3,700+

Never again!
September 10, 2019

I could not be more disappointed in Expedia and their booking process, as well as their customer service department and their refund department. I have been a customer of Expedia for at least 10 years now. I have had my fair share of minor booking issues with them, however it never hit me in the pocket, and I overlooked Expedia's shortcomings, due to their convenience and reputation. NEVER AGAIN. I will never, ever use Expedia EVER AGAIN. Not only did the website completely screw up on a hotel reservation of mine, but after hours of utterly frustrating time spent on the phone with their very incompetent (oversees) staff, my issue and more importantly my REFUND was never resolved. Even after I was assured that I would receive a refund, it never came and was eventually denied. Their reasoning? They stated that I was never promised a refund! Even though they have recorded calls, they LIED to me and stated that the audio recording (of at least 60 mins) did not reflect a promise of refund. A flat-out, blatant lie. What kind of customer service is this? Not only will I never use this company again, I will make sure that everyone I encounter knows how terrible this company is and I will insist (and better yet, convince) that they never use this company again, either. Plus, I am going to post this review on every single format I can find. Take that!

In the span of 3 days my bookings failed 5 times. My money got onto visa hold 5 times (more than 10 transactions with total amount of more than $3000 each time). Expedia support suggested to wait for 72 hours to get my money back each time until I insisted on sending an email to the bank to release my money from hold. I had to find bank contact details for them and monitor that an email would be sent while I'm waiting on the phone by getting a copy in my email box. In total between Expedia and bank to coordinate money return I had to make more than 15 calls and spend literally hours on phone calls. While attempting to book the trip over the phone at the moment of booking I've been told that my package price will increase by another $250 because "your chosen room was booked, I will get you the one which is under hotel's discount". Yes, "discount" for some reason meant that I'll have to pay extra $250 all of a sudden. Misleading advertising and greed to up-sell the customer after all the initial package pricing was discussed and agreed. Disgusting! I haven't booked the trip. Expedia waisted my precious time and my phone time. That was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I will ensure to share my experience with friends, colleagues, and public. Great business guys, "well" done!

Waist of time.
August 27, 2019

Customer service is terrible. You will wait on the phone for extended periods of time if you need to talk to a rep. Expedia does not represent you and does not care. As a person who travels all of the time, I recommend calling the hotels yourself, most of the time you will get a better deal.

I booked hotel and flight with Expedia. I called the hotel after couple weeks to get a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. The hotel informed me that no reservation under my name or the confirmation number I got from Expedia. I contacted Expedia like 6 times by email and phone calls which last for two hours and they couldn't do anything. They refunded me my money less the cancellation fee for the flights and they told me the money will take 8 weeks to be deposited in my bank account. Which is not fair. They ruined my vacation and they hold my money. Now I need to wait 8 weeks to book a vacation.

We purchased the travel insurance to protect us from loses should the trip suffer an interruption. My wife suffered an interruption that was the result of a heat wave in Paris. Expedia and the insurance assured that they would reimburse the losses but we would have to pay upfront. Paid $1800 out of pocket. Once we got home the insurance, AIG, rejected the claim and Expedia stood by the denial. This was the insurance company that we purchased at the recommendation of Expedia.
