Expedia Reviews Summary

Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

Bundle deal
February 7, 2020

Booked a bundle deal through Expedia app to Jamaica not realizing that the hotel room I picked was almost 4 hours away and a $700 shuttle. Spoke to customer service and their excuse was I should've checked! But flying into another country I did not think a bundle deal will send me to a 4 hours away hotel. If I pick to fly into New York will they have a bundle deal for me to stay in Boston. I don't believe so. No part of it makes sense at all. And it's so hard to even find a reasonable shuttle that even takes you that far. How that's part of their bundle deal I don't understand

My first experience with Expedia was very disappointing Booked a 3 night stay at Hampton Inn, Augusta Ga. Through Expedia. At $128. Per night. Had to cancel due to family emergency. I was still charged $128. For the cancellation fee due to using a third party Booking Agent I was told by the General Manager of the Hotel that i would have to discuss the problem with Expedia. Expedia sent me an e-mail that they were unable to contact the General Manager of the hotel. Have not hear from Expedia since. I later re-booked with the same hotel directly and was charged only $98.per night, same room same hotel. Expedia had charged me $30. More per night! What a rip-off. I will never ever use a third party Booking Agent again for anything, especially Expedia!.

Expedia has turned into a scam company that couldn't care less about its customers. They sold me useless collision insurance on a rental car that I booked online with them. The rental company would not honor it, I had to buy second coverage at the rental pick up desk, and Expedia does not care. I paid twice for the same thing! 30 minutes on hold with Expedia customer service to be told there's «nothing we can do ». Please go elsewhere, this company has become a complete scam devoid of any proper customer service-READ ALL OF THE RECENT REVIEWS!

Don't fly with expedia
January 26, 2020

I will firstly sum up my experience IT SUCKS
Why? I have booked a flight 2 months ago. The flight times were great and I have booked my days off in company. Everything went well untill one of the flights I got was moved less than 1 month after i took the tickets. This change implied that i will be home one day later. Because of this change I have big problems on work as I can't get more days. Expedia told me that it is ok and that I can change this. Than the real experience started.
I had 4 calls each of them finishing:
1) we will call you tomorrow - never called
2) line got broken after 45 minute talk, I can't get to same representative
3) we don't care, go to air company (they told me to go back to expedia)
4) line carshes after 1 hour of talk, no call back
Since than i cant even contact them.
Expedia is horrible

We paid in advance Expedia for two rooms for the night of January 23rd, 2020.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were told it was a problem and after awaiting for 30mn on the side, we were told that the hotel was overbooked and that we had to go to another hotel.
We had to wait one hour to reach the other hotel and when we arrived there, they had no booking for us, we handed over the letter Sheraton gave us, but they asked us to wait another one hour the time for them to get confirmation from Sheraton and process the reservation, we finally got our room at 10PM.
Today, I called Expedia customer service (45mn before somebody answered), I talked to Vanessa, who keep saying that Expedia was not responsible and was not at fault, in spite of the fact that I booked and pay Expedia, I had to wait for her to call Sheraton who confirmed our story and confirmed that they had refunded Expédia.
While I paid one week ago, I have now to wait another two for the refund.
Instead of saying it is our fault, it would have been better for the Expedia customer service agent, Vanessa to tell, I am sorry for the inconvenience, which she did finally at the end as I was insisting on Expedia responsibilities on the matter.
Question, why when you do not perform the services that you (Expedia) have sold to us, do not refund straight away, rather than keeping the funds for almost one month.
This was a painful experience, and the way Expedia is handling the issue does not make it less inconvenient.

We arrived in Paris and prepaid for the Paris shuttle to pick us up. We called multiple times, which sent us to a recording and emailed them with no response. We took a cab to our hotel and 4hrs later received an email asking if we were still at the airport! I emailed Expedia and sent the email I got from the shuttle co, requested a refund. They approved a partial refund. How disappointing! I have used this company for years traveling domestic and this was my first international trip. I will never book through them again. They can not take care of their loyal customers.

I found a 4 star hotel at an exceptional rate. So I booked it (before becoming an actual member of expedia). However when I got to the hotel they required a $100 deposit. I just didnt have it so I asked for a refund. So the hotel had a $25 refund fee! Which was half of the amount of the room. The hotels ad on Expedia did not have these site policies listed. The customer rep. With Expedia did everything within her power to get me a full refund from the hotel but the hotel wasn't budging claiming that that it was Expedias responsibility to make sure that these policies are advertised since the hotel bought the advertising spot. By the time it was over with the customer rep. Gave me a $25 voucher toward my next hotel and I was out a total of 13.00 and I had to call a friend to drive a little over 400 miles to pick me up. My lesson is this: be sure to read EVERYTHING when booking ANYTHING on these websites... it could have possibly been my over site but Expedia did take half the responsibility.

When booking cost of room varied over short period rotating to different prices. I would suggest booking directly with the hotel. Better deals available through American Express travel with a platinum card.

Not Trustworthy
January 14, 2020

This site will charge you different price than the price listed on their site. This is evidently so common that it is one of the potential pre-filled complaints on their customer review surveys that they send out.

I had this happen to me. I spent literally 5 hours trying to have the issue taken care of. I spoke to no fewer than 8 people in multiple different divisions before I ultimately gave up after they "accidentally" disconnected me well into the 5th hour on one of the numerous "brief" holds.

These people do not care about you. They are not trying to provide a useful service to you. They are ONLY interested in your money and they do not care how they get it.

Ask yourself why is it reasonable for these site to dictate that a reservation is unrefundable from the instant that you hit the pay button. There are some hotels/properties that non-refundable rooms are the only option available. If the airlines can offer a 24 hour grace period and not have any significant negative economic effect why can't the booking sites have this grace period as well. You know why? They make a not small portion off of these reservations that are made by mistake or otherwise unused by their customers.

Do yourself a favor: do your research on the sites like Expedia, read their reviews, comparison shop, look at the pretty pictures but ALWAYS make your booking at the hotel, car or airline comany's site directly. You'll be glad you did

SCAMMERS
January 10, 2020

They cancelled my bookings within seconds of me booking. Multiple times. Yet won't refund me any of the booking fees.
Refuse to talk any sense to me, they just keep copy and pasting the same lines over and over, and telling me to message or email them, which I have a million times and have been doing for nearly 3 weeks. I'm getting no where. I've tried phoning but after being on hold for an hour or two they hang up on you.
I will never ever use Expedia again, and I suggest everyone else books with other companies. Expedia steal your money and the Indians working for them whilst are polite are absolutely no help.

I've been an Expedia customer for many years and have used them for numerous bookings, I always thought I was satisfied with them u til my recent foray. I was looking to book a flight from NY to Bangkok. At 5pm the flight was $776. I emailed my daughter and went to have dinner. At about 7:30pm Expedia had the flight listed at $844. I booked the hotel independently and then went to book the flight and it suddenly jumps to $891. I'm started to get agitated at this point and go to TripAdvisor, there I get the flight via Priceline for $801. I immediately jump to Expedia and low and behold the flight is now $801. I contacted service department and got a bunch of platitudes and apologies. I have read about sites tracking your purchases and that if you are interested in an item they will jack the price up. I believe that Expedia is using that tactic.

I rented a car for 23 days via the Expedia website from Europcar, Mexico City. The rental amount was US$52.51. I also purchased an Expedia Collision Damage Plan for US$264, to cover the compulsory CDW insurance requirement in Mexico. The combined cost of the rental and insurance was about the same as what I was quoted on other sites like rentalcars.com. When I went to pick up my car, I was told that Europcar doesn't accept Expedia insurance and that I couldn't rent the car without taking out Europcar's CDW. This cost me an additional USD$455! I was also told that Expedia knew that Europcar doesn't accept Expedia insurance, and that Expedia shouldn't be selling it! Why is Expedia selling insurance to consumers that won't be accepted by rental agencies?

Expedia has refunded me the US$264 I paid for insurance, but is refusing to refund the additional US$190 I had to pay for Europcar's CDW. Expedia says that "I chose to take out Europcar's CDW". I had no choice in the matter. I had to take out the insurance in order to rent the car.

Had I booked with rentalcars.com (the site I usually book through), I would have got the car for around US$310, including CDW. I did a 25 day rental in December via rentalcars.com, which cost me AUD$367. Thanks to Expedia's misleading and deceptive sales tactics, my Europcar rental has ended up costing 3 times this amount.

Expedia are scammers. DO NOT rent cars through them, at least not in Mexico.

I will never use their site again, for anything.

On Dec 27, I flew to Tampa, Florida to then drive to Clearwater to visit a sick family member. After taking a cab to the Hertz location at 6037 N Dale Mabry Hwy, I arrived at 7:30am. I was told that even though I had booked a rental car well in advance through Expedia, and that my reservation was confirmed by Hertz, they had zero cars available. They let me know that they had no clue when they would get more rental cars and that my options were to wait at the rental facility or leave my contact and credit card information for them to call me when a car became available. Because I had no where to go, I had to wait at the facility.
I sat in that rental facility, unsure that I would get a car at all and horrified that I was unable to get to my sick family member, where the only bathroom was for "staff only," for over 2 hours before being told that cars were on their way. When a car for me finally arrived, I was shocked to see the employee driving the car was smoking a cigarette as she got out of the car.
Once my car was cleaned and fueled, I entered the car and was immediately hit with an extremely potent smell of cigarette smoke. When I brought it up to the employee, she pointed out the fact that it was the only car available and that if I didn't want it, they would give it to the next customers waiting. I left in the disgusting car at 9:50am.
To make all of this worse, I was on the phone with Expedia customer service for 1 hour 45 minutes. During this time I was hung up on twice as employees tried to transfer me to supervisors. When I finally talked to a supervisor (after finally getting my car) their response was that they were sorry and they asked if there was any other issues I could help with.
I just talked to Expedia corporate and they told me that Hertz's response was an adequate resolution to this situation.
I have always booked my travels through Expedia and I am so disappointed in the response of their customer service.

They booked us a hotel that literally ruined our entire trip. The first room had cockroaches, when we asked to move, the second room gave us bed bugs! When we asked Expedia to help in the situation they would not. The hotel staff was extremely rude the entire time. Basically acting like it was our their hotel was so crappy and dirty. NEVER book through Expedia.

We were traveling in Sri Lanka around New Year's. We booked a hotel in a resort town from 29-31, on a night where many hotels were booked out.

When we arrived at the hotel, the hotel did not recognize Expedia as a booking provider and had no reservation for us. Further, they were booked out on the nights we wanted to stay!

When I called Expedia for the refund, they asked for 2-3 days to verify the information with the hotel. And then confirmed that I had used the reservation.

There I was--stranded without a hotel. And being refused a refund for a room I couldn't stay in. When I called customer service back, they continued to refuse a refund.

Do yourself a favor. Using Booking.com.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
December 29, 2019

Here is a pro tip about saving time and money:

Never order tickets, or anything, with Expedia.com

I booked a flight with them. They misspelled my surname by changing the place of two letters. I called... and called again. Two weeks, four phone calls, four departments and 6.5 hours later (in total), the name on the tickets has yet to be changed. They are after my money, you see. The flight cost 900+ dollars. If they can convince me to cancel and re-book the flight, then they would only refund 300 dollars. Brilliant eh? I have spoken with Helen, Ashley, Alex, Andy, Elton, Maria, Reggie, Paulo and Elsa (most of them 'senior representatives' or 'managers'), from whom I got no less than four different 'case numbers' and countless false promises. They also never call you back, though they promise to every single time at the end of each conversation. All I ever got from you were excuses, and blaming Swiss airlines for your own poor service.

SHAME ON YOU EXPEDIA!

You did not just lose a single customer - you lost every single person I will ever speak with about online ordering of flights, hotels and car rentals.

BEWARE OF EXPEDIA! If this is what I had to go through at home, just imagine how awful if you are stuck at an airport. Never again.

By the way, I have all 6.5 hours recorded. It is like slow torture. Worse than watching politicians on TV.

Bait and Switch
December 20, 2019

I ordered 3 separate cabins through expedia and was supposed to get $1000 onboard credit and free drinks while on the cruise. The promotions showed available and highlighted throughout the ordering process in November. Right before the cruise I contacted them to confirm a few details and was given the run around before speaking with a manager on the situation. They advised I do not choose the correct package even though their sales screen highlights the specials given they are not always valid. Norwegian was offering the same package with the credit and the drinks for essentially the same price but I had difficulty ordering 3 rooms through them which is why I used expedia.
