Expedia Reviews Summary

Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

Protection plan
April 15, 2020

Purchased the most expensive Protection plan for my vacation, with the understanding we were protected. To find out only refunds are given within 15 days of the purchase, how does that make any sense if unforeseen situations happen in the future. COVID-19 was completely out of everybody's control but yet they are keeping the money? I am very disappointed in Expedia, sat on hold, was disconnected, no email communication, and online chat took an hour! In the end Expedia did the wrong thing and did not take care of their customer like they said they would, very disappointed.

I have been really frustrated with Expedia's response to the coronavirus. At various times, they have removed options from their website for canceling flights and its been virtually impossible to talk to them by phone. After three weeks of calling, I finally got through, only to have the customer service rep hang up on me. The second rep I talked to informed me that their travel insurance (which I purchased) is basically worthless. Rather than a refund on my flight, the best they could do is a voucher that expires well before I need to do any additional travel. I've used their service for years, and its been generally OK. However, when it came down to a time when good customer service was needed, they were no where to be found. I will never use them again.

Purchased KLM Business airline tickets through Expedia to Europe in March 2020. While in Europe my return flight was cancelled by KLM due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Delta partner attempted to re-book, but was not successful. I had to purchase another return flight ticket to return home, which took me 38 hours travel time. I could not reach Expedia and was put on hold for hours. Since being home, I have attempted to work through KLM, Delta, and Expedia to have the return ticket cost refunded. KLM has stated that they will refund the ticket price, but I need to work through Expedia to initiate the refund process. Expedia refuses to do so. Submitted a complaint to the Department of Transportation (DOT) and a dispute through my credit card company. This is the first poor review that I have ever written. If I could have given Expedia a "0" I would have. Please stay far, far away from this company.

Scamming, Rip Off!
April 14, 2020

They sell a "travelguard" policy that covers 100% of trip cancellation. They also do everything they can to make it impossible to recover and cancel the trip. Seems AA will bill them for the tickets and they'd have to eat that in order to make good on the refund. Their tact then is to delay, ignore, make difficult or impossible to cancel. They even put in the itinerary all kinds of promises of you can easily cancel the reservation. NOPE. Those links are dead ends. RUN AWAY. What a bunch of scammers and frauds. NEVER shall I deal with Expedia again.

Terrible
April 10, 2020

I requested a cancellation since the airline told me that I should get a full refund since the county is in lockdown. Expedia gave me an airline credit. I needed my money. I don't have to travel since my travel date is already passed. Why would you give me an airline credit. Additionally, I appreciate the customer service at Agoda. Expedia customer service is ridiculous. I will never ever use Expedia. I would recommend people to stop using this site too. Its a scam.

I canceled my European vacation to Berlin due to Corona Virus. The Air France ticket was premium economy and was 1700. 00.
The airline kept it's refund promise.
The Waldorf Astoria, Berlin is a Hilton property. Hilton is offering full refunds as this virus was no ones fault. Expedia sent an email stating I would receive 399.00 as our credit for hotel!? After weeks of trying to reach Expedia, spending hours of my time, the call would disconnect after long periods of waiting. If that wasn't enough frustration, our final credit posted was for 186.00!? Basically Expedia ripped us off big time By keeping our money. Now we must pay. I intend to call my attorney out of principle. This is my thanks for years of loyalty! Greed in American companies. It's pathetic! If your considering using them, think again!

Iv been using Expedia for years when traveling. Booking flights, hotels, and rental cars. After today I will never use or recommend Expedia to anyone. I booked a flight 2 days ago and had to call back twice to rebook my flight because it kept canceling my flight. When talking with them they told me I canceled the flight. Only i did was ask to send the confirmation to a different email. Rebooked it last night. This morning get another notification that my flight from Phoenix to Portland but my portland from Phoenix was still booked. They said I canceled my flight. Why would I cancel my flight to portland but keep my flight going back. They said they could only have me rebook my flight. No compensation except for $100 voucher. No thanks keep the voucher. I recomend any other booking site except Expedia. This would be a 0 star if I could.

I have spent hours speaking with Expedia about a refund they agreed to give me two months ago. They can never communicate with their travel partners and take days to respond sometimes. They have been so terrible with information. I have screenshots and emails saying they would give me this refund but now they are refusing. I have booked with them for years and I am so disappointed. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Nightmare
April 1, 2020

During the Covid crisis we could not get through to Expedia to cancel our flights. After many attempts we were finally able to get our flights canceled through the airline, United. They ended up cancelling our flights anyway. After many tries I have finally gotten through to Expedia and after hours on the phone while they "confirm our flight information" I am still not able to get a refund. I am going to try to contact United to help. This is so upsetting. I think Expedia is just trying to keep our money!

I had a New York trip planned to go to a bunch of shows on broadway with my daughter. Broadway is closed, all the companies I bought tickets for shows to refunded my money. I bought plane and hotel through expedia and I can't even get them on the phone, all I get online is "Non-refundable". So they sold me a trip that can't be taken and won't do anything about it.

I booked a 2 night stay at a hotel. Expedia took my funds for the stay at 1 AM. Then cancelled my reservation without my knowledge. Now me and my children have no room or money to get another room. Because I was told I have to wait for a refund. Now we are just outside... Literally Because of Expedia... My first and last time ever using their booking service! Itinerary# **************

Slippery and unclear
March 29, 2020

I bought a round trip ticket through Expedia. Also purchased travel insurance. Had yo cancel. They said I was eligible for refund on only one leg, and that refund would be airline miles not dollars. So with travel insurance I still lost half. Then I rebook and the airline tells me those moles can only be used by higher priced flights.

I bought travel insurance and lost $500

We understand with the onset of the Corona virus things are hectic. We have tried for 5 days to contact someone at Expedia to help us with our trip cancellation. We purchased the insurance because the trip we booked was to visit our son at his military base in Florida. With the virus, we are on stay at home orders, and his base is shut down for the unforeseen future. We have been on hold for as long as 2 hours each time we call, and then they just disconnect us. They promise to not put us on hold and before you know it, you are on hold again. We have spent numerous hours on hold to get NO WHERE... To top it off, no one will issue a refund for our trip. Expedia says via their website to cancel each portion of the trip with the hotel, airlines, etc... so we did. Now they say that we didnt have a trip because it was cancelled and cant find our itinerary number. Called the hotel directly and they wont help us either because we booked through Expedia. What a bunch of garbage, operators are rude and I DO NOT TRUST this travel agency. Lied to so many times in the last week its not even funny. Praying for a miracle refund... not holding my breath on it though. Bye Bye $2000. 00...

I used Expedia a few times and the few times I used them I never had to cancel my trip until now. I understand it's a Pandemic going on now which is why I'm trying to cancel my flight. I've been trying for 3 days straight, online isn't helpful at all, I even waited to speak with a live agent, which sucks, I've been on hold for 3-5 hours straight to be hung up on 4 times. I've been patient because of the crisis WE ALL are experiencing, but hours long of wait time just to be hung up on is a slap in the face as a paying consumer. I will never use this service again! I even purchased the protection plan but I'm sure that doesn't work in my favor. I just wish they knew how to navigate better as a big company when their is a crisis; instead of leaving consumers in suspense. All I can do is fill out the cancel request form, hope I get my refund, hope for the best.

Was going to Hawaii first class for a 25th Aniversary, had to cancel since Hawaii is shut down. No one is available to talk to me live.
I tried the chat line two times, and each time I get their response. " I can't help you with this yet, so let's get someone who can. "
So far, no-one has ever got back to me. I am within the 72 hr time frame that my flight would have left, so I tried the phone. The phone disconnected me since I now do not have a departure time. Terrible way to handle your customer service issues. You need to refund everyone's money and take the hit like the rest of the Country. Once I get my
$3800 + back, I am done with Expedia!

Nothing works
March 25, 2020

No problem whatsoever in booking a flight, but the problem comes when you try to cancel a flight. They tell you to do it online through the customer portal. Just one problem, it does not work at all no matter what route you take. You can try to go through what they call a virtual rep., what a joke that is. No problem buying insurance on the flight. Witch is supposed to give you your money back if you cancel your flight. Or at least that's what you are told. I even tried to call and held the line for over 3 hours. Now I can understand some delay because of this pandemic, but not that long. That was just one day. I've been trying for over a week. This is ridiculous Expedia.

Due to vivid 19 we have to cancel we have been on phone lines trying to get through for 2 days straight and phone keep hanging up on us after being on hold for up to 5 hours. This is ridiculous. Raking not serving

At good times raking money from customers, now just showing no care or respect towards customers. Impossible to get answer to a phone call. Completely disorganized.
