Expedia Reviews Summary

Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

DONT RENT CARS
July 26, 2021

Apparently you can not change a reservation - TO ADD DAYS- I wasted two hours with both agents (Expedia and Dollar) to find out I can not make a change until the day I get the car. Who wants to sit on hold while traveling- to pay the absorbent "going" rate. This has happened before with airlines - fortunately the airlines was able to help me out!

Terrible Resolution
July 21, 2021

My family went to check in to our hotel to find out the water park attached to our hotel was permanently closed the day prior to our stay. Expedia told us we could cancel and get refunded only if hotel cleared the refund. Expedia sent an email asking for the staff members name and title, which I immediately emailed back to Expedia. Expedia then decided not to call the hotel for 4 weeks to verify the refund and staff member. Then they tell me the hotel can not be reached, no refund. Hotel was demolished 3 weeks ago. Expedia says nothing they can do.
Super awesome!
Way to do business!

AWFUL
July 20, 2021

Expedia was absolutely heartless and unhelpful. My father booked a rental car through Expedia two years ago and was anticipated to leave on that trip last year. However, due to covid, the trip was post-poned until this July (2021) along with the rental car. My father unfortunately passed away in June of this year. The trip was planned for he and the men in my family to go fishing in Alaska. My brothers still wanted to go on this trip in his memory, but Expedia was awful to try and change anything. The car was booked under my father's name and they wouldn't allow us to change the name to one of my brothers or even add a name because they insisted both people (meaning my father and brother) would need to be there to pick up the car. You can see how this was impossible. They then told us we would need to cancel the reservation and book it again at the price it was listed at now. First there were no cars even available to rent so they said we just had to try and book our same car right at the same moment we canceled or we were just out of luck. Another car became available and they let us book it for the price it was now, just plus another ~$1,000. Ultimately, we ended up canceling our reservation after countless hours spent on the phone with Expedia and going with another company. I will never use Expedia again because of the heartlessness and unwillingness to help that they showed me and my family during an already difficult time.

Expedia censors negative reviews
July 16, 2021

I had a poor experience at a rental car company. Nu rental cars actually refunded and corrected the issue, but Expedia would not let me leave a review to help other customers choose a company. DO NOT TRUST REVIEWS ON EXPEDIA.

I booked a hotel with Expedia a month ago. Today I was checking it and couldn't find it anywhere. Turns out my reservations were canceled a week ago and Expedia didn't even send me a notice to notify me of the cancellation. Spoke to customer service a guy named Juan and he was absolutely no help whatsoever. So now here I am a week before I need the hotel looking for one because Expedia couldn't have let me know beforehand and because Expedia apparently let's you book hotel rooms that aren't available in the first place. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH EXPEDIA, IT SUCKS.

I booked a ticket from my expedia account for my father in law to travel from Cairo, Egypt. I even purchased the insurance policy. Trip got cancelled for medical emergency. Expedia will not give me back the credit to my Expedia account so I can use it for future travel for myself or refund it to my account. They want to credit for my father in law and to be limited to him and his future travel from Cairo if even happen. So It it was all fraud. That means I will lose the money. The man may not even come back again. Something they never mentioned when I bought the ticket or when I purchased the insurance policy. If this is not fraud, am not sure wat else I can call

Very disappointed

We booked our acomodation with expedia yesterday, and at night we received weather info about the tropical storm Elsa is coming to our place. We can not travel. So in conclusion, we can not cancel our room in Lowes Philadelphia Hotel today although we can not travel to Philadelphia because Elsa tropical storm is coming. They say us it is because their policy but this is an extraordinary situation. Only 1 star for that reason

If I could give it zero stars I could. Let me tell you I've been a customer of Expedia for over a decade and recently I have realized just how shady they have become. Last week I booked a reservation at a hotel in Moro bay and by accident I booked it for the wrong date. In an attempt to change the reservation just so I would't loose close to $300.00 I spoke to the hotel. After speaking to the hotel several times they allowed a refund but the service agent from Expedia said they could not call the hotel to confirm the authorization and sent me an email where I needed to respond with the name and position of the employee that authorized it. I did what I was told ( I have screenshots) and heard no response for 8 days. Since they said it would take ten days to process and I had heard nothing I decided to call them again. What was really interesting (after my call being dropped of course) was that the person I spoke to simply said they had received no response to their initial email. When I said I could send a screenshot of the email i sent he would not provide me with an address and instead said he would process the request by asking for name and position of the person who authorized it. After being told to wait another 10 days to process my request I asked for his name and employee number and an email confirming that the process was started. The customer service agent (who's name was "Josh" and was clearly not American) would not provide any kind of reference or email proof that this time my request was being set in motion. So i'm basically stuck calling again with nothing to validate my attempt to call or any proof of what was supposedly done on the other end.
As an avid traveler I can tell you these days, from what I'm seeing booking through these companies... even though it might seem convenient is becoming more of a hassle when there is an issue. Airlines currently are offering flexibility when it comes to cancellations and changes because of the pandemic. But if you book through a third party their hands might be tied. Same thing with hotels, if you book directly with them and a mistake happens, they might be able to help you and treat you like a human. But if you have a third party vendor then you're stuck in a world of pain. Remember, these companies that might seem like a one stop shop that offers convenience are only convenient if everything goes well. But in reality, when there's an issue and it really matters they'll make you regret your decision to use them. Stick to browsing only and then leave the site and book directly with the vendor it's a much safer bet.

Terrible company
July 6, 2021

While trying to change existing hotel room from 1 king to 2 queen beds, Expedia told me it would cost me another $100.00 for the 2 night reservation. I checked the hotel website and it cost me only $64.04 more. Spent over 1/2 an hr waiting to talk to an Expedia rep on the phone and their online virtual chat is a joke. (it's actually a machine). I will no longer be dealing with Expedia.

Disgusting Thieves
July 5, 2021

Booked 4 flights on June 1st@ 11:50 p.m. Called in to change and or cancel flights on June 2nd@2:30 after the messaging service told me I'd needed to discuss it with a representative. Was on hold for 1 hour 45 min before I took the call back option. NEVER Received a call back. I called in June 3rd@8:00 a.m. FINALLY got connected to a representative who informed me that since it had been past 24hours THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO! THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS STOLEN DUE TO A PETTY SCAM OPERATED COMPANY. Travel insurance is a joke. I purchased basic economy, and with those you can't change or upgrade your tickets. This company is filled with disgusting thieves and a script. I will never go through a 3rd party site again.

I paid $417.54 for one night at the Huntley. After I checked in and got in the elevator, there was very loud music in the elevator shaft. Boom boom boom boom so loud you cold not talk to the person next to you. A sign inside the elevator "penthouse restaurant closed for private party". I had a medical appointment the next morning but could not sleep. The mattress was literally vibrating from the noise. I asked the front desk how long this would last and they said "I'm sure they will quit soon, I saw some people coming down the elevator". After the music subsided around 10:30 P.M., there were drunks in the hallways until 2:30 AM. At 7:30 I asked for my car ($55/night extra) (their website says "parking available") and told the valet I was not checking out. When I got back from my medical appointment (about 9:30), my room had been cleaned out. When checking out I asked for a 50% credit on my room and was told all they could do was not charge me the service fee or for the bottle of water. Anyplace in Santa Monica would have been much better.

Profit?
June 27, 2021

When examining the hotel bill there was a huge ($346) discrepancy between the hotel charges and Expedia fee. After a brief discussion with a representative it was determined that was their "profit"?!

Expedia is a scam!
June 26, 2021

Expedia is terrible to work with! Do not travel with them if you can avoid it at all costs! We had booked a flight over a year ago, and we were supposed to travel back in August of 2020. I had a medical condition come up, and I was advised by my doctor not to travel. With covid, and my doctors guidance, I requested my flight to be cancelled and refunded. When I booked this flight, I was told that it was 100% refundable. Here we are nearly a year later and Expedia won't do a single thing for us! We have had the run around and been told that we would receive a refund on several occasions, but still have not received anything.

These guys are scam artists, and will find a way to take your money!

Do not travel with Expedia!

Be sure to read Expedia terms and conditions. You might not get refunded for a cancelation even if the hotel, airline, or etc offers one. It is better to use their site as a search and then go pay for the service directly to the provider. I rented a car then tried to cancel with Expedia. After several hours of being on hold I gave up and was charged. Even though I was at the counter at the rental car company they could not help me because I book through Expedia. Lesson learned for me and hope this helps someone else.

PSA. NEVER EVER USE EXPEDIA TO BOOK ANYTHING

We booked a prepaid hotel for a course we had to go to this weekend. It was cancelled and we cancelled the hotel through Expedia. I had originally paid insurance in case the hotel got booked so we could get our money back. When cancelling I had to put a claim through with AIG who takes care of the insurance. I was denied my money back. It says right in the paperwork that if there is a pandemic then you are covered. I called and was told that because the pandemic was started before I booked that it wasn't covered as I was aware there was a pandemic when I booked. This is bull$#*!. The reason I took the insurance was because there was a chance it could be cancelled due to the pandemic. So they will not refund me 2 nights worth of hotel costs plus the money I spent on insurance. I plan to take this further. It will not stop here. But lesson learned, NEVER DEAL WITH EXPEDIA.

Do not use Expedia. They raised the price while booking and after they charged my Amex! You only can give in. Also, arriving at hotel, no room, and Marriott told me that Expedia is doing that systematically. Tried to reach them, but was impossible: due to high traffic etc, you know the story. Never use Expedia again!

I had a Friday-Sunday hotel booked to go to an air show. I decided to only go for one night instead. Well I couldn't change the reservation on the expedia app because it said the dates were unavailable. So I called expedia. Took about an hour for them to call me back. They said it was showing that because there was no availability. I asked why they couldn't just cut one of the days off of my reservation? They said "the system looks for more availability and the hotel is full." I replied with "Well, I already have the room for the weekend, why is it impossible to take a day off and open it up for someone else?" They told me I would have to cancel the booking and then make a new reservation. Well, that's a risk since everywhere else is sold out due to the airshow. She said "It's the only way". She said she tried calling the hotel but nobody was answering so there was nothing she could do. Because she originally said that she would tell them to not charge me for the first night. But since they didn't answer, that couldn't happen. So I had to cancel the reservation and now I am without a room because somehow it magically booked up in two seconds after canceling. I knew it was a risk, but due to an unexpected financial burden, I could not afford both nights. It just doesn't make sense how they cant simply remove ONE DAY from my reservation. F*%k Expedia.

I have dealt with a few issues over the -almost- twenty years that I have used Expedia. The last six months have been awful. Recently, their App glitched & used two different credit cards(one in my spouses's name & without a security code) for a hotel booking. When I finally got thru to customer service, the real person on the other end, kept saying that it was the hotel's cancellation policy that would not allow him to stop the double booking. He could, however, cancel & the fee would be the entire cost of the room. Is it really that difficult to cancel an unauthorized credit card usage(we have two separate Expedia accounts with the common denominator being a cell number)? Yes. At Expedia, it is. I have an insane amount of screen shots of my absurd interactions with him. Apparently, there were no supervisors on duty to help.
With another, separate & soon to be upcoming trip, the hotel has been asking for the balance of my hotel stay. My credit card was charged(by Expedia) for the entire amount & thus far, no one at Expedia can explain why the hotel has not gotten their money. It's been 5 weeks. Lo & behold, again, not one supervisor in the entire company to help.
I wish everyone happy travels & I hope that Expedia is good to you. After many years, I am saying Goodbye.
