My wife and I have been trying to introduce Chinese to our daughter, as our parents all came from China and we'd like her to carry on speaking Chinese... at least as a 2nd language.
You know how kids are, they don't like to study with mom and dad or give in to pressure from us. We'd have some trouble motivating her to speak Chinese, since none of her friends at school learn Chinese or have Chinese heritage.
We signed her up for a Free Trial with eChineseLearning since they had the most good reviews and seem to be the most established company of its type. The Free Trial went well and we signed her up for the Chinese Language for Heritage Learners course. She is now learning Chinese without pesky Mom and Dad butting our heads in. I think she likes the privacy.
Her progress has been impressive and we plan on continuing with this company to keep her motivated. They also offer plenty of supplementary e-books and learning materials. Highly recommended from my family's experience!
Been studying in the UK for the GCSE for a while, now. But Chinese is HARD. My eChineseLearning teacher selected the best materials for me to use to hammer out the stuff I struggle with (I'm actually more advanced speaking, but my writing sucks). Totally passed, thank you Helena!
I had gotten up to HSK Test Level 3 with various classes, subscriptions, and other online and community resources. But I couldn't pass level 4 no matter what I tried. I found eChineseLearning and my teacher was able to correct my reading, writing and speaking enough to finally pass. VERY happy and grateful.
Hi Kenny,
Congrats! Thank you for your kind words! We love having you as a student.

I had learned Spanish in high school (slowly) and French quite quickly (two years in Montreal).
I wanted to learn Chinese, but my job can't allow me to live in Asia. I signed up for lessons with this company and it worked extremely well. 1-on-1 face-to-face lessons at my convenience. Worked incredibly well and I continued into my second year this week.
In the future, I hope to go to China when I retire to practice with I've learn the ECL. Not only have they helped me with my language, they've also inspired me to learn more about Chinese culture. If you join them, your language skills will improve, but also your motivation.
Suddenly I found myself living in China. My job transferred me from NY to Shanghai. I was glad to make the move--it's only for a few years--but I felt under-prepared because of my language skills. I knew no Chinese before I arrived, and when I got here I was overwhelmed. Being that I'm busy with work, I signed up with eChineseLearning to improve my Chinese in my free time. I'm pleased to say it's worked. My Chinese is getting better each day, and I'm adjusting to this new environment easily as a result.
I was torn between learning Arabic or Chinese from my home city of Dallas. I decided to go with Chinese due to my interest in their culture and country. I took some free trials with various online learning groups and decided to go with echineselearning.com.
I've been very happy with the results! I had some scheduling and internet issues and this company was so understanding and responsive. Really great customer service that helped my progress very well. My Chinese is coming along and I'm even ordering in Mandarin at my local Chinese restaurant. Overall great experience and highly recommended!
English is not my native language, and its always an experience to learn a new language use a second language. The staff at echineselearning really go out of their way to make me feel supported. My primary teacher and other teachers are lovely and very helpful. Chinese is my 5th language and I enjoy learning languages online. I did a 6-month intensive course before signing up for classes and find it is a good way to keep improving month by month. If you are short on time and really want to get a good grasp of the language this is the route to go.
Good service. From signing up for the free trial and getting almost instant feedback to set up a meeting, to starting classes, the echineselearning team is always on call. They try to ensure you are getting their full attention and help. I really enjoyed this aspect as taking classes online can seem like a scam (less likely nowadays but still possible) or like you would not be able to get the full range of the product as you might if you are discussing it in person. The classes are quick, clean and efficient. You get what you pay for and honestly its ridiculously convenient.
I'm a city planner and I've started working in China on Chinese projects more and more over the past 10 years or so, due to all the growth there. I looked into Chinese classes to help communicate with the Chinese engineers that I work with. Unfortunately, the basic conversations weren't related to my work. With eChineseLearning I was able to choose my topics and focus on that face to face. In my spare time I studied basic Chinese, but this company was able to give me exactly what I wanted. I'm still renewing my lessons.
I've been liaising with chinese partners for over 3 years and finally decided it was time to learn how to address them properly. I took 6 months bi-weekly one-on-one classes with an eChineseLearning teacher. I've already landed 2 more contracts--and I'm pretty sure I owe that in part to the lessons learned here.
I started with eChineseLearning after having failed time and time again to learn on my own. I was trying to teach myself using Rosetta Stone and a few other methods I read about online, but I got nowhere. It just wasn't working. After taking my free class with eCL, I realized I wasn't learning because I didn't have a teacher. This was the best investment for my Chinese studies.
My family's been putting pressure on my to pick up Chinese or Arabic. I decided to go with Chinese because I think the culture is fascinating. Been using this company online from home for the past few months. I get more guidance and feedback than I did when I was in the classroom. I'd highly recommend it if you want to improve your speaking skills.
I stumbled across eChineseLearning while searching for chinese lessons for my kids. The site has so many free resources--nursery rhymes, children's stories, etc. I've been using these while homeschooling. I also just started the one-on-one lessons for my daughter, and she LOVES it. Has so much fun skyping with her teacher. Thrilled!
Really cool thing! You can learn a lot more one-on-one than you can in the classroom, so I dropped my community college Chinese class and went with online courses. After some free trials with other groups, I went with ECL, as they're the most-established of the online Chinese language schools. So far, it's been great. I'm saving a lot of time by not driving to school and just staying in. I get immediate feedback with each lesson... that never happened in college!
I've been learning Chinese online for awhile. Just following podcasts and blog articles, picking up things here and there. I didn't want to put money down for it, as it was just a hobby at the time. But along the way I decided I really enjoyed learning it and wanted to give it a real shot. I tried a couple of different trials with different online services. I settled on this on because my teacher was really funny and made learning fun. I also found the automated way of learning as it is with some sites a little too lacking. I've been taking classes for 2 weeks now and am really excited about the prospects. I think I will be fluent in no time!
The free trial surprised me--by how much time the team took to assess my level of mandarin and create a learning path that would fit where i'm at. I'm through my first month and really look forward to it in my weekly schedule. It's great to be able to schedule language classes at exact times that suit me. If you're on the fence, do the free trial.
I'm a Korean exchange student in Seattle. My classes in America are time-consuming, so I was worried that my Chinese lessons in Korea would suffer when I am in America. A friend of mine told me about echineselearning and that I could start it in Korea and continue the lessons in Seattle. It's been great. My Chinese hasn't suffered while I'm immersed in English classes and the time zone differences don't seem to matter. The classes can be scheduled at the times that are convenient for me!
Adopting is a learning curve on so many levels, but these classes with echineselearning truly made the process so much less stressful and so much more exciting. I knew I'd be able to understand my daughter better--and that first visit in china was priceless. We could communicate! This first year with her has been so enriching since I can still understand bits and pieces and can encourage her to keep speaking chinese. So, so glad I got referred to echineselearning for my lessons. Best decision I made (besides adopting my daughter, of course!)
I live in rural Saskatchewan. It's probably one of the few places on Earth with no Chinese people. I decided to follow my girlfriend to Taiwan next year to teach English. I wanted a head start in learning Chinese, since I hate relying on hand gestures and looking stupid in foreign countries. This site has been working really well for me, as the teachers can work on my schedule and I don't have to drive to a city to study with a native Chinese teacher. The classes are progressively helpful and the teachers are enthusiastic and very friendly.
I was struggling in my chinese course and really worried about passing the SAT Chinese test until I found my teacher here. She has been the best guide to get my confidence up and really soak in the language. Now I'm a pinyin pro, know how to differentiate between the simplified and traditional characters and can get the tones. Plus, I passed the test. Icing on the cake! Learning mandarin is fun in and of itself, once you get the hang of it.
Answer: Not free. It is a Chinese school where only Chinese can be learned, not Japanese. I haven't studied Japanese and I don't know which Japanese language schools are good.
