The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

I have bought about 20 items from EBTH. They have all been BARGAINS. Once was a box of ornaments I bought for $51. I had to drive quite a ways to pick them up, but was thrilled to find 150 total in the box. I sold the first one for $175. Tables, chairs, barstools, garden items, holiday, I have been happy with all of them. But I would caution everyone to stick to the true estate sales. I have carefully avoided all art, electronics, sports memrobilia, rugs, and especially JEWELRY!
ETBH not only puts rare treasures and collectibles up for auction, the site actually educated names and details about items I've never seen.
Wonderful site, fun, with a huge inventory to choose from. Mostly upper-end merchandise. The UPS driver and I are on a first-name basis Thanks to EBTH
I live this site. It is simple to use. There is a nice selection of items. I love to look for jewelry. I can mark all the items I'm interested in as a favorite and then watch the progress of the auction. I just won a beautiful garnet and pearl necklace for $50.
I also like to watch crystal and other glassware. It's loads of fun!
Read every single word in their listings! I recently purchased a Ball Watch Co. Watch that stated the watch was in running condition... only thing is way down in the listing it stated the crown was dented and loose. Well, the stem is trashed and therefore it will cost me a couple hundred dollars to get the watch repaired! They had the watch authenticated (according to the listing) so they knew it was bad! But to get their 30% they got a sucker like me to bite! When I protested they said the watch was as listed. This is the FOURTH time I've had a problem with EBTH.COM and the first time they've refused to make it right. I'm done with them.
Two pottery pieces were dumped in a box with no packing, I mean NONE! Of course arrived shattered. Called sent pictures and no response. Next, BBB and my credit card. Do not buy from them!
This is an auction site. The site is one of the most well designed of the online auction sites I have used. The auction is on a timed schedule, with extended bidding for 5 min if a bid is received just before the stated end time. The quality of the photography is uniformly excellent, if not outstanding. Identification and description of the items is generally extremely good, given the range of objects that appear. Many of the items are what you might find at a house or estate sale. I visit the site because I'm an antique collector. This site is a lot of fun, and brings back the experience the days when I used to haunt estate and garage sales. The condition of the items is generally accurate, and I have used the site for over 2 years I recently did have an issue with an expensive vase I bought that was heavily bid on. This was because of an omission in the description, and this was quickly resolved to my satisfaction, noting that most auction houses have firm disclaimers with no recourse. The person I spoke to and subsequent email correspondence was clear and excellent.
For first time users, note that most auction houses charge the buyer a premium, usually 25%. EBTH does not charge a buyers premium, which is a big deal.
Shipping. With most auction houses, you have to arrange for shipping yourself, and you are in a hostage situation, so shipping costs can be high, for even the smallest items its hard to get away with less than a $50 pickup, packing and shipping charge. For large items, the cost is prohibitive. On EBTH, your shipping charge is calculated so you know beforehand what your total cost will be. They use a variety of carriers, so there is a variation in cost especially for bigger items, but generally for small items I've found their charges to be below what I've experienced.
I have purchased few items from EBTH and very happy with my purchases however, My last purchased was a table yesterday and I noticed the auction didn't end at the time that was Listed. The auction was suppose to end at 6:27 but instead ended 6:34. That few minutes cost me $150 more I've never experienced this at any auction before. Not sure if it's illegal but very dishonest. I believe that table is my last purchase from them.
I bought a very rare and expensive lens from EBTH. It had the original box that was scotch tapped around the box which I knew about (simple bit of tape around the edges to hold it together 75 year old box) When I received the item they had retaped with shipping tape over the top and bottom of the box (ruined the box which was 50% of the value) I had to cut the tape to get to it. I complained and went back and forth with them, they said they would issue a refund, but then they decided I was lying about the box stating it was like that in the pictures. Nope! If so how did they take pics of it? They essentially called me a liar. All I wanted was accountability from the shipping department, this was the most severe of all the shipping problems I had with them. I warned them against losing a good customer over something like this and demanded an apology, they stuck by their guns and took the word of the shipper over mine, worst of all questioned my character. Done with them.
The amount of items are many and varied. I am a collector of African art, and at first I was surprised at the number of different artifacts, and once I received the items, very happy with the choices I made. EBTH offers something for every taste and budget.
I recently purchased a pair of 14k ear rings at a very reasonable price. I am Very satisfied as I have been with my other purchases.
Purchased an expensive item in good faith that it was evaluated by EBTH as claimed and did not seek an appraisal right away (which would be an additional cost); Later when ready to give as a gift took it to a reputable source for authenticity and was told it was a fake. Second opinion by another reputable expert confirmed that. Contacted EBTH and told them abou thier item being fake and they rafused to take it back (since it was over thier 30 day allowance); So because I trusted them and did not immediately go through an expense of checking the item, I am stuck with the counterfiet product. They should be banned form selling anything! Scam!
I have bought several pieces of jewelry and several lamps. I have never been disappointed. I have never had an issue with the items description and found the photographs to accurate. I spend hours at a time browsing this site looking at jewelry. I appreciate the fact, if you bid, you are notified when your outbid and if the sale is coming to a end. I have contacted customer service only once to expedite shipping, The package was received in a matter of a few days and the customer service rep was very professional and polite. I am rather surprised by the bad reviews posted.
I have been enjoying EBTH for a few years now, always interested in what they offer, keeping an eye on everything, specially in the art section.
On May 12/2019 I was the lucky winning bidder of an 8" X 10" oil painting by famous American tonalist, Charles Warren Eaton. One just like it, same size and similar scene, was sold at Shannon's Fine Art Auctioneer in Milford Connecticut on 10/28/2010 for $ 4800. 00
My lid on this auction was $ 5000. 00. I could not believe my eyes when I got it for only $ 600.00.
This was at EBTH in Dallas, Texas.
The artwork arrived three days later, perfectly packed, in St. Louis Missouri, and is being housed ever since in my studio for my total enjoyment.
I could not be happier!
The necklace I won was exactly as described. Happy with the experience. Shipping can be followed using the tracking number, and that progress is fun to watch.
I've purchased multiple items and every single item arrived in a condition much worse than what was represented at the time of auction. In case on of one item, it's very apparent that that damage was photoshopped out from the image in the online listing. All of my attempts to resolve these issues with the company were ignored, and resulted in legal action against them.
Customer Service action resulted in immediate shipping time of the won item, instead of the previously scheduled 5 to 10 days waiting period from the purchase date.
Purchased a "Cartier" bangle from EBTH. I took it to my jeweler who is a certified appraiser and gemologist. She said it was not real. We sent it back and requested a refund. EBTH cannot provide proof of authenticity but will still not provide a refund. SCAMMERS!
Won an auction that I was thrilled about the item. Received a message several days later that the item was accidentally sold as a duplicate. My money was refunded but wow, so upsetting! I will not be back.
I gave this company a number of very high-quality household items and jewelry along with some antiques that I bought in Paris they were not shorted correctly they were not labeled correctly I reached out to the sales rep twice three times finally reached out to the manager Helgi,
Asked for clarification on the commission everything they told me was faults they took double but they promised I asked them to correct the listing on some items that were incorrect they refused
They broke and I don't that was high-value they refused to reimburse me for now they refused to send a couple I am his back they decided they didn't want to sell
I would be more than happy to work with anyone that's looking to put together a class action lawsuit against this company so disappointed lost thousands of dollars because of their stupidity
They said their people know their merchandise and they don't
And to add to this couple items that I purchased there was nothing on the listing that they were damaged they came in damaged and one was actually a fake compared to what they said it was
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
