The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

I enjoy "window shopping" on EBTH (would never buy anything due to shipping horror stories) but now I get a "could not complete item request due to an error" message every time I select an item or category. Completely useless now.
Products show false pictures, not the actual item for sale. Will not make good. Robbers. Once they get your money they do not care if the item is valid or what they promised. They got your money
On 4/30 I won a bid on item B-******* a set of 3 camera tripods. As of today 5/19 shipment still not received. Long story short I spoke with 3 different reps - one who got snippy and argued with me (Ashley) and finally it was escalated to a higher rep and they gave me different reasons why it didn't ship - credit card did not go through... and then yes it did - it will ship today blah blah and no matter what you say or how you plead to get a refund you are forced to pay for the bid amount. This is terrible unprofessional business conduct
WARNING: HIDDEN FEES. They will charge you an additional $30.00 PER ITEM for picking it up yourself at a warehouse. Three items adds almost $100.00 to your total for using your own time/gas/vehicle to pick it up. This trend is increasing with EBTH as they add more and more fees to the buyer. The warehouse fee USED to be paid by the seller as it is their choice to use their home or a warehouse. Why the sudden change to stick it to the buyers? Every time I look at something there is an additional fee for pickup, an outrageous fee for shipping and it can be 6 months before I receive something they ship to me! Items in my home state are shipped to OHIO to a warehouse, which increases what they charge for shipping. They have TWO warehouses around the Nashville area. Why should I pay you to take the item from Tennessee to Ohio so I can pay from Ohio to Tennessee? Used to be a good place to buy. Now it's not worth the hassle or extra money. Win an auction for $12.00 and end up paying $150.00. No thank you.
I have bought from EBTH a few times and have been slightly disappointed when receiving the product. The last time was a total disregard for a description of the product. I will never buy again. This sight can cost you thousands in losses and they don't care.
After waiting for weeks, EBTH shipped me the wrong piece of artwork from an auction. I contacted them to alert them to the error. I was told that the person who incorrectly had received my art had already called and was sending it back to EBTH (I eventually got it). They sent me a return ship label and I drove to the UPS Store and sent the wrong painting back to EBTH. About 10 days later, the SAME incorrect painting was sent back to me! I again called customer service and was told by a woman that she would check on the problem and get back to me. It has been two weeks with no contact and no return shipping label. If you contact me and can properly identify your missing artwork, I will arrange to send it directly to you and we can circumvent the incompetence. Just in case Sitejabber doesn't have an option to contact me, I will watch this site for a few days to see if anyone responds.
Pickup is during working hours and during heavy traffic so if you get a few items it could cost you hrs of time and $$$ for fuel. This site is for people that get things for nothing and are not working and can afford the time. Bad for the seller. Do not bid on anything, If you cannot pickup during their restricted hrs they will get you to forfeit the item saying it goes to charity. I did not pickup and they billed me $154 for shipping an Item I bid $54. I had already told them I could not make it and to donate. They billed me on my credit card anyway. Did I mention that they billed shipping for $154 and I am 20 miles away! As a professional I had something come up. Life throws curve balls sometimes and be assured that EBTH will not help in any way. And if you are needing to do an Estate sale you will do better if you have a local buyer for the whole estate
I have been a customer of EBTH for a couple of years now. I have made some fabulous purchases. I am in Cincinnati so the first year I only picked up at the estate. What fun to pick up your item. You meet many nice people from EBTH and from our city. The houses are also fun to see often in the same room the seller had them in. One time item a little to big for our vehicle so another buyer had an extra strap and gave it to us and we have seen him several times since.
Next you must check the shipping cost if purchasing from another city. Sometimes cost is way to much so i do not make a bid.
The last purchase i made did get lost but with a little patience and a prayer it did come finally. My mother always said patience is a virtue.
It did seem like customer service was a little overwhelmed when contacted. EBTH has grown quickly and with all companies we must give them some time to get the kinks out and their logistics working more efficiently. It all takes a little time.
You can find some great items. There will always be those last minute buyers/dealers that are waiting to swoop on it at the last minute just the opposite of an estate sale/garage sale early birds. I just put my max in I would pay for it if I win I win
If I don't I don't. If you read on their site they tell you it adds the minutes.
Bottom line I LOVE EBTH
Be careful. It is written Charleston or Month Pleasant sale, but accually the sale is from Ohio. At the end of the auction if you did win, they charge you the shipping whithout your will.
Call to schedule a pickup at warehouse and told I need to get today 5/11/17. I explained that I have a doctor appt. Rep didn't care, get the item today. Once again I explained impossible but I could collect it next week. No exceptions rep said. When I asked for someone over them refused saying she had the authority. Was going to ship a 40 $ item for 200$. RiICULOUS service. I have cancelled my order. And will no longer be a member of this low class auction site.
I too have made several purchases with EBTH and I will not make another. Too bad too because I do like the concept and the website but the items I have received in the mail were damaged becaused they were packed so poorly. The times I drove to Cincy to pu also disappointing.
My experience with EBTH has been very disappointing. I have spent over 3,000.00 with this company in one year and I will NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN. Every shipment has broken and shattered pottery, missing items that were listed in my receipt, damaged vintage hats and the list goes on. EBTH would only refund me what they determined to be ther value of the broken pieces. The companies that do the packing vary city to city so customer service for EBTH will say they are sorry but they have no control over how it is packed. I have had much better luck with Etsy and wilL no longer buy from EBTH
ParticularlyEBTH has local sales in my area (Boston) but they changed their policy so now they charge a "small fee" of $30 to pick up large items at their warehouse. You don't have the option anymore to pick up small items and have to pay for their overpriced shipping. Some small items that are in local sales aren't even available for shipping and only have an option to pick them at their warehouse in Blue Ash, Ohio. I have purchased things in the past when I was able to pick them up but I won't be bothering anymore. They weren't particularly clear in describing items like dishes that ended up have cracks and damage that were not fully disclosed. Why even list sales as being local if it doesn't matter?
Bought many many items- many showed up broken and had to fight - but some great deals so stuck with it. Always carefully checking shipping rates and would only bid on pieces with reasonable rates. Bought pair of prints for 360- shipping came back at 300- emailed disputed rate given new rate- paid- 3 1/2 months later no prints spoke with customer service- refunded shipping, but not auction price- claimed we violated the 7 day payment window - we were waiting on adjusted shipping cost. Horrible, horrible dishonest experience
Their shipping costs are outrageous as everyone here points out.
They don't answer emails when requesting info on an item won but not delivered.
They do not honor their end of the auction rules, but if you make a mistake they will not retract your bid even a lousy $2.00 one. And charge you $7.79 for that crappy $2.00 item you did not mean to bid on.
I spent 10 minutes waiting for customer service to answe me on this big issue and the kind young man apologized profusely and told me he would escalate the issue and would take 3 days, well m Amex card will honor me in a jiffy.
Stay away from online auctions they rip both sides off.
Bought 4 items of art glass. Paid $1,766 without tax or shipping. Paid $183.34 in shipping for UPS Ground. Credit card charges on 4/8/17. Items not shipped until 4/26/17 and I still don't have them! Seriously. No really, seriously.
I have purchased several item from this company in the last month. Everything has arrived very well packed and in a timely manner. Items have been so far as described. I see there is complaints on the shipping charges but they quote you upfront with your zip ode and I have found if it's more than I want to pay in shipping I just pass and don't bid on the item. As far as the warehouse pick up charge they also tell you that upfront. I bought item to be picked up at the warehouse but I got the items way below retail so I don't mind.
Continually putting blue ash ohio on as indianapolis sale charging exorbitant prices for "warehouse pickup" blue ash ohio at least 115 miles from indianapolis..
You see a sale near your home. They have nice things you want to bid on. Now really read the listing. They have moved the product over 80 miles a way to a warehouse that will cost you an additional $30 to pick up each and every item. I understand moving the goods if the house has sold, but, why 80 miles away? Now this impacts the seller as well as the buyer. If EBTH is getting a 45% commission and charging $30 for pick-up any rational person will adjust their bids to accommodate the up charges, leaving the seller with even less money in their pocket. Don't be fooled into thinking shipping is a breeze, either. Their shipping is usually twice what you or I could ship for. Don't know if this company is a scam or just has a lot of kinks to iron out. I won't buy again from them until I see big changes.
I was looking at a local item for pick up and when I went back to the full list I was taken to "you might be interested in this." I looked at and indeed I was!
But only after I bid did I see it was in another state. Now I pray I am outbid. It's bull$#*!!
Beware!
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
