The worst company I ever had, never trust this company or give them any money, legit scam never pay claims
After Choice Home Warranty coordinated the replacement of a residential furnace (policy paid 50% or $6000), I expected them to easily handle a malfunctioning furnace 12 months later. Instead, after 3 attempts by the local 3rd party to find the problem (faulty circuit board), Choice claim reps advised 3rd party to replace the circuit board BUT expect me to pay $200! When I filed a complaint, the case manager explained the circuit board was "under warranty" so I should have went back to the furnace manufacturer! What? Of course any customer would have expected the home warranty company to handle that exchange with the furnace manufacturer but not Choice Home Warranty. BEWARE!
Choice Home Warranty uses deceptive tactics.
I have been paying $55 a month to Choice Home Warranty since 2023. In February 2025, I made a claim for my leaking water heater. A plumber came, inspected the issue, and collected an $85 deductible, stating they would order some parts and return within 24 hours. I thought the deductible was standard, as I had paid similar fees with American Home Shield.
However, I later received an email stating that I would have to pay $953 for "modifications" if I wanted to replace my water heater. I called customer service, and they assigned me a case manager, but I didn't receive any help. I was informed that the only way to replace my water heater was to pay the $953.
When I called back today to discuss the situation further, I was told my account has been canceled, and there is nothing they can do for me. Choice Home Warranty employs deceptive tactics to lure customers in and offers no support when claims are made. I am going back to American Home Shield and will be sure to warn everyone I know about how shady Choice Home Warranty is.
They prey on the elderly. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE, EVER! I bought a 3 year policy from my 81 year old mom. We cancelled the policy and got a refund check. 3 years later, I noticed the charges to my mom's auto draft and called to see what was up. They said sorry, we'll give you back the last 2 months and we're keeping the rest. The account was thought to be cancelled, but instead went to a monthly that was never agreed to and they billed monthly until I caught the problem. 36 months later. There was never a call for services ever since was thought to have cancelled.
So I just made the mistake of getting a policy today. I should have read reviews first but the sales guy was so high pressure that I caved. Then I went and read the reviews and saw that they are NOT accredited by BBB and has thousands of complaints with them as well as so many other review sites. So I just called to cancel the policy and the "resolution" dept would not even cancel without a fight! She argued with me that all companies have bad reviews and that theirs was about the same as all the other home warranty companies. I tried to tell her I was not interested in her arguments and to just cancel, but she would not even let me get a word in and talked over me! I had to yell to get her to shut up! That made me furious!
I could not find any good reviews for them on the BBB site. I'll be looking for a warranty company that has better reviews if there is one out there that I can afford. Beware of this one!
"Choice Home Warranty denied my furnace repair during Christmas holidays when temperatures were below freezing. My blower motor failed - a common wear and tear issue. Despite having a licensed HVAC technician provide written documentation that this was normal wear and tear (covered under warranty), they denied coverage claiming unproven "pre-existing damage."
The company admitted having no technical expertise on staff, yet dismissed a professional technician's assessment. I was forced to buy space heaters and eventually replace my entire furnace to protect my home from freezing pipes, all out-of-pocket.
Key warning signs from my experience:
They denied coverage without proper technical evaluation
Refused to provide evidence supporting their denial
Dismissed licensed professional's assessment
Made technical decisions without qualified personnel
Left us without heat during freezing weather
Currently pursuing complaints with PA Attorney General and BBB. Consider carefully before purchasing their warranty - in my experience, they look for reasons to deny rather than cover legitimate claims."
I filed a claim for plumbing and paid the service call fee. Which Choice stated that claim was approved. Choice then told me that i would have to pay an additional $250. Which they said for uncovered parts. I'm still trying to figure out what were the uncovered parts, because the cabinets and sink were removed so the plumber walked in & cut about 3" of a small pipe(not PVC) a very small pipe then added a new small section the same size he cut out. Took maybe 20 minutes. If i had known they were gonna rip me off i could've hired my own plumber for about half the price of what Choice charged.Or i could've done it myself after knowing what i know now. I want at least have of the total refunded to me. Word of caution is this company are not truthful and loves to take their customers money. I've had this company for many years and if they refuse to right their wrong i will be canceling immediately!
I engaged with Choice Home Warranty four months ago, I submitted my first claim for my garage door opener on the 14th of August 2024. I initially submitted the claim through customer service and was informed that they would locate a technician for the job. Shortly thereafter they informed me I could use my own vendor and get a reimbursement, but the vendor would have to submit a diagnosis of the problem and a quote for work before they could approve the project. My vendor never contacted CHW with the required info so I located another vendor and had them do the work. When I tried to submit the receipt for the project to CHW they assigned a "Case Manager" to me whose sole purpose was to inform me that they denied my claim because I used a company that was not approved by CHW. It's obvious to me that their business model is to maximize the number of customers with inflated or fake reviews and the use of sales people to contact potential customers and convince them to use the service. The "Case Manager" was even able to cancel my policy and when I reengaged with her to appeal her decision she informed me that I was no longer a customer and could not appeal. Choice Home Warranty is a total scam. Buyers beware
This home warranty is completely highway robbery, they make pay deductible for declined services. They say because the technician from Moonstar Appliance lied to them, they just still your money and won't repair anything. First customer service is rude talking to you like you are trash where supervisors are asked to speak to them always say to tell them no supervisor is available but will call them back. Where weeks go by and no call at all. Moonstar Appliance works hand in hand this way all their claim are declined. I believe they know I'm Latino and treat me worse recommend being careful or staying away from these highway robbery companies.
Run away! I have hade Choice for a while now and have nothing to say good about them. They are crooks. Just had a claim for a GE induction cooktop that would not power up. Their technician diagnosed a bad power supply, and it would need to be replaced. When they submitted it to Choice I was told that it could not be fixed. Offered ~$370 dollars to replace a $2400 cooktop. With this information, I ordered a new cooktop (new model of same unit) and had someone install it. Now we have a brand-new cooktop that still will not power up. Called an electrician and only problem was a tripped breaker. So, I'm out the $2500, $300 to install, and $200 electrician bill. This is only one of the many claims that cost me money and never got a repair done through them. They did the same thing when we had two central AC units get hit by lightning a few years ago. They sent out 3 technicians and none knew what to do. The last Choice tech never did came because the appointment was set up for a month down the road and Choice said we were stuck with them. We live in Florida, and it was summer. I called a real company and got then fixed quickly. That is just two things, there were others.
We have an insurance coverage with Choice Home Warranty to cover repairs and or replacement for our main home appliances and equipment. We recently had issues with our AC unit and contacted them and requested for a technician to come and have a look at it. Their conclusion was that the AC unit required cleaning and adding refrigerant. We were not satisfied with the technician that Choice Home Warranty. We subsequently hired another technician, separate from Choice Home Warranty, which evaluated the system performed the cleaning and adding of refrigerant required Choice Home Warranty. The AC system still was not cooling properly so we contacted Choice Home Warranty. They required us to open another claim and pay for another technician which we did. The technician concluded that the unit coils were old and needed replacement and that the unit had minor leaks. He suggested add a substance to seal the leaks and adding of refrigerant only after that could he measure to show that the coil is the problem and not working efficiently. After he submitted his information to Choice Home Warranty they immediately closed the claim and refused to work with us without any explanation. We have had a similar issue before with them, where they took 3 months and numerous visits to fix a problem we had with our range/oven. We again filing a complaint for this issue as they are not willing to resolve it. They are very happy to take our money but never when it is their turn. I Have been told by people do work for them that they are famous for doing this and waiting for the customer to give up in order not to pay.
They suck the big one! Liars cheats a bunch of fringing a holes. Find the smallest thing to deny claim! I hate this company. This is why they are not licensed in California! Screw these son of $#*!es!
If I could leave a 0 review I would. Prior to contracting with Choice Home Warranty I called and spoke to a representative. I asked several questions of the representative that I spoke with one being "if one of my appliances goes out does it cover full replacement"? We were just relocating and buying a house in the Houston area and the representative told me yes that it would be replaced with a like item minus our service fee. A couple months in the house we reported a problem with the dishwasher. A technician came out, told us he'd have to order the part and would return when it came in. Shortly after, a representative from Choice contacted us and said that the part could not be replaced and they would cover 249.00 towards a new dishwasher. Never mind that the dishwasher in our home originally cost 1100.00. I elevated the claim and was still denied saying that there was not another dishwasher that had all the same functions. Not only that, to get the 249.00 it would be in the form of a gift card to Lowe's and it would be 30 days before getting it. Talk about furious! This company is deceptive. This past week I tried to file a claim on line but I could only list one item on the claim even though the items were all plumbing related so I called to speak with a representative. He did away with the claim I had filed and started over listing all the issues so that the plumbing tech could address all the issues. One of the problems was water coming from the side of the sink with the disposal on it. I told the representative I thought it might be coming from the disposal connection or maybe not. When the plumber came and assessed the problems he called to get the ok to fix them. They refused the repair on the disposal connection. It is not the disposal but the connection. I called and argued with them because the plumber had the part to fix it but they claim it would have to be another claim. So they wanted me to make another claim and pay another fee so the same company could come out and fix the problem. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
Absolutely horrible! Five weeks after moving into our house, the A/C did not work. We filed a claim with Choice - which was denied in less than 24 hours. They stated,"This unit has not entered the policy in proper working order." Given we used the A/C for the 5 weeks, I am not sure how this is even possible. They make their own decisions and you have ZERO say in the matter. They made a determination that there must have been a "slow leak" that was already in place before we moved in. However, the HVAC people stated the issue can happen overnight. In short - Choice Home Warranty will take your money, deny your claim and you have NO recourse. DO NOT spend your money on Choice Home Warranty!
Sat filed claim 12:37 pm with choice.
I called at 2:30 still looking for a tech.
2:45 received reimbursement option via email; not sent via text even though my main number of the claim is a mobile number; so I did not see this email until I got home at 9pm
Survey received via email but no option to input comments on why the rating was given.
Blower motor out with cold temps could result in a possible water pipe issue; without a blower we are using a lot of propane to bring the rooms up to temperature.
Sun 10:52 still no tech assigned and once the claim in submitted the phone number cannot be updated; I wanted to change the phone number from my cell phone number to my home number now that I am at home all day today. I had made plans to visit family close by for the rest of the afternoon yesterday.
Monday 9:20 – still no tech assigned to the issue; I am starting the claim reimbursement process and a tech from my propane provider has assigned a tech to come out today; however, my local tech does not deal directly with insurance or warranty companies; I will need to submit the information myself and take pictures my self once the local tech has provided their assessment. They state that no one in the area deals with Choice because of slow or no pay.
Choice Home Warranty is a scam! My water heater went out and they sent a tech out to look at it. I needed a new water heater and I live in a mobile home. I didn't realize that there's a difference in water heaters for regular homes versus mobile homes. The previous owner has installed a water heater that goes into a regular home instead of one that goes into a mobile home. Since the previous owner, NOT me, installed the wrong one, Choice Home Warranty said that they would replace my water heater with what was currently in here. WTF? Yeah, that would void out my insurance if a flood or fire happened from it. So my question is, why won't Choice Home Warranty do the right thing and replace it with the correct one? I ended up paying out of my pocket for a new water heater and Choice Home Warranty can suck it! This is a horrible company with no morals or values. Run far far away from them and don't ever buy into their lies or over priced plans!
Signed up in early 2023, by March I had a pipe leak under my kitchen sink that I tried to fix multiple times, finally decided to use Choice, put in my claim, everything went downhill from there. I called about every week or so because I kept getting the INFAMOUS CHOICE REIMBURSEMENT OPTION! I called a couple of local techs, bad idea! 1 of them flat out told me they REFUSE to work with choice after being burned by them, another one literally yelled at me once I mentioned the reimbursement option. One Day I finally got an email saying they scheduled a tech for me. I waited all day, no tech shows up. I call the guy, and he FREAKING YELLS AT ME! That he does not ever work with Choice, I called Choice, and was sent on the Escalation Highway once again. About a year later now, sink has not been fixed, just keep rigging it, and my rental house needs work done on the furnace. Tech actually gets scheduled, shows up, tells me what needs done to the furnace. Submits the claim, DENIED in less than 24 hours. I call Choice, they set me up with an escalation, was a waste of time, they did not care what I had to say, and when I told her to cancel both of my accounts, she couldn't have cared less. Never missed a single payment to them, they never offered a single penny to me in money, or assistance with the entire reason I purchased a home warranty to begin with. I hope this finds EVERYONE!
I have a washer that retailed for $1400. They made the decision not to repair it. They sent me a check for $547. It took twenty five days for the check to arrive.
Choice Home Warranty promises protection in the event of home emergencies. They fixed my washer early on into the term of my contract, though slower than I'd have liked. I then contacted them this January after my furnace went out on a Friday, and temperatures fell below zero. It took them over 48 hours to assign a furnace technician to me, while my home fell below 45 degrees inside. The appointment was scheduled Tuesday the following week, and upon review, the technician said the earliest available date they could get my furnace equipment in was February 13th, nearly a month after my initial claim. To date, CHW has yet to resolve my problem and customer service continues to evade my attempts for restitution. This is unacceptable and not worth the value put in whatsoever.
I requested a technician to repair my washing machine. One week later the tech shows up and determines a part needs replaced. Two weeks later the tech shows up to install the new part. The new part does not fix the problem. He removes the control panel and determines the control panel needs replaced. Due to the make/age of the machine the control panel is no longer made/available. The tech did not respond to calls/texts/emails. The company phone has been disconnected and the BBB rating is F. After another week of waiting to hear the final verdict from Choice Home Warranty I initiated a phone call to get an update. After broken responses from Choice Home related to get in contact with me, I finally got an appointment to talk to a customer rep. This conversation went as expected. The story the customer rep presented was not the occurrence of the events and even the customer rep had to put me on hold twice to correct her inaccurate list of events. As such the claim was denied. I canceled my contract and would never recommend this company. I suppose I would characterize my experience as a complete disappointment. Poor choice of screening repairman, poor communication, fabricated history from the tech (not even sure they talked to the tech as I have not been able to get in contact with him),and an experience of screw the customer at all costs.
Answer: 2-10 is more expensive but of very good value. Good people. Our plumber has recommended Old Republic. I do not know anything about them though.
Answer: A definite scam. Will not pay, use any excuse to not pay. Takes days to acknowledge a service company is being assigned. Service personnel will not work for them as they do not get paid.
Answer: PRICE AND THE GOOD REPUTATION OF GEORGR FOREMEN… Pls don't blame him. He couldn't know they were crooked when he signed up!
