Booking.com Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, primarily due to inadequate customer service and a lack of accountability. Many reviews highlight issues such as harsh refund policies, unresponsive support, and problems with fraudulent listings, leading to frustrations over lost funds and unresolved complaints. While some customers appreciate the variety of accommodations offered, the overwhelming sentiment indicates a lack of trust in the company's commitment to customer satisfaction. To improve its reputation, the company must enhance its customer service responsiveness and take greater responsibility for the listings it promotes.

Unfortunately, I was scammed after making my booking for a stay at www.mimhotels.com in Ibiza through booking.com.

I received a call from the hotels telephone number asking about my stay and offering a car pick up from the airport.

They asked to take a preauthorisation on my credit card which I agreed to. Next, I foolishly handed over a One Time Code to the caller who subsequently bought EUR 1935 worth of untraceable Crypto Currency.

I did address this with the GM of the hotel and he advised that there was no outbound call from the hotel to my mobile phone number, there was no or minimal staff with access to the hotel as it did not open for the season until 2-3 months later and CCTV showed nobody near the reception / office to make that call.

During the call the caller also took full payment for the hotel along with their Crypto gift to themselves at my expense.

So this experience leaves me feeling that either someone at the hotel or booking.com gave my info away and scammed me successfully, which would be the only reason I won't be using the hotel again in the future or ever using booking.com again. Sad lesson learned by me.

I raised with bookling.com who showed an interest and asked for more detail, which they simply sent to the hotel… who declined again…. The allegation from the hotel was that this type of scam is very common with booking.com…. USE THEM AT YOUR PERIL.

I booked a room at one of Booking.com hotels in Pennsylvania. I used Booking.com 6-8 times a year. I had to cancel the booking within the right timeframe and I received a written confirmation that it was canceled at no cost. A few days later I got charged for a night stay at this hotel. I was unable to get the charge reversed. The customer service person was giving me inaccurate details blaming me for cancelling the room too late. That person stopped exchanging with me. I couldn't find a phone number to call. Bad customer service all around!

The point of using a third-party site is to protect you from giving your credit card to a third-world country, and to help you if a problem arises. Turns out, booking.com DOES give your card directly to third-world properties and DOES NOT help you whatsoever if you don't get a refund.

Along with the property owner, they've done nothing but point the finger at each other and say I need to contact the other. Spoke w/ Agent A who promises he'll initiate a claim and request proof of refund from the property; call back 4 days later and Agent B says Agent A never did that, so he gets to "start the process over". Have been told to wait 5, then 7, then 14, then 15, now 30 days (FROM TODAY, not even from when I cancelled the reservation and was told the refund was initiated 18 days ago. So I get to wait 48 days to even START the process of a refund, which will then take another god knows how long).

Absolutely useless - cost us our 3 night trip to Manchester. I booked accommodation last year for trip over August bank holiday this year. A better accommodation became available so I booked that, paid in full and received accommodation. I cancelled my original accommodation. I then received a message to say due to an issue on their end, the new accommodation wasn't actually available and they cancelled my booking. They're completely unwilling to help and now I'm left with no accommodation, with very little alternatives due to it being a very busy weekend, unless I want to pay 3x the price I originally paid. Will be using alternatives such as airbnb going forward.

I cancelled this booking within the 24 hour time frame and then had my accomodation reach out about check in, i emailed back saying i had already cancelled this reservation and the hotel said to contact booking.com, i did and nobody got back to me. I then had $390 stolen from my account and booking.com are still absolutely no help. Don't trust.

Upon arrival at THE HIDE IN RANDBURG there was a lady standing outside at the gate who was wearing only a see through top (no bottom) waiting for a man in a car in the road... Meanwhile another lady with a shower cap on and wine in hand yells "Auntie, customer."... How unprofessional? Then the half naked one runs back to her room bare bottim jiggling past us! In my opinion it Iooked like sex was being exchanged for money there. We immediately canceled and was forced to drive around looking for other accommodation... The good rating on bookings.com is NOT what I experienced.
10 days after cancelation, still no refund...
Booking.com simply said I must contact the facility to receive my refund that was taken by bookings.com? They are quick to take money, but leaving me to sort out my refund, who the property representative now only wants to refund 70% of the full amount?

The worst company to book flight tickets with. The team is not trained to help the customers. Their only motive is MONEY! And their flex ticket is a scam. They charge you an extra amount to get the flex service, but that money is a total waste from my point of view.

They said that - with flex you pay only the price difference. But when you request for a date change, 99% of the time they say no tickets available. So you have no option other than loosing all your money spent on the booking.

Also they are very tricky in marketing this flex service. The advantage of flex ticket is mentioned as "Change your flight to another with the same airline for free'. But this only allows you to change the date once for the whole trip (inbound and outbound). After that, you will have to pay a penalty for each change. You are more likely to miss this, unless you have a prior experience with booking.com. Why don't they clearly mention that this service can be used only once. This is a cheating company and never fall for that.

From my overall experiance, I would suggest to book directly with airline. This is because, if you try to get any information from Booking.com agents, they says that we have to deal this directly with airline. But if we call airine, they will say that we have to deal this with Booking.com because they have made the reservation for you. This is very stressful and waste of our time. I had to make several calls to Booking.com and the airline just to get a payment confirmation.
NEVER RECOMMEND! NEVER USE THIS AGAIN!

The place is a dump, no getting around that. Appears to be a welfare hotel also. With all kinds of drug addict derelicts all over the place with god knows how many squeezed into every room. Its a totally unsafe place to stay. Drug dealing going on and people begging for money and food. Everything is old and barely works. No dishes or pots for the kitchen, had to buy my own. A/c didn't work and when I turned on the heat the fire alarm went off. Stayed 6 days and it was hell. Choice hotels has to know this is a dump but could care less.

I was refunded by a hotel I booked via booking.com due to issues with the room. The original payment was processed by booking.com. The hotel claims to have sent out the refund via booking.com (which also confirmed it initially on a notification email I received from them) but 3 weeks later when it failed to show up on my card statement I reached out to booking.com and they now claim the payment was never processed by the hotel and said there's nothing they can do or help about it. Outrageous.

What if you want to book a location and the website will not allow you to complete because there's a required field you can't fill out? You would try to call or email someone for support, however there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to get help UNLESS you have a completed booking. If you don't have a confirmation number or PIN, customer service refuses to help you. I personally work in IT/customer support, and the fact that they blamed it on my card/bank is asinine. I made all of my friends and family try to book a location on their own devices, with their own payment methods, and all of them got the same result: "Card Type" field required, but no options were there to select. You'd think I could get to talk to someone who would take my money over the phone, but this is literally impossible with this company. I was so excited for my event this weekend, and now everything is ruined because of this website. DON'T EVEN TRY!

Worst customer service EVER! I would give a negative review if I could.
Totally unacceptable - I booked a hotel room in Sep 22 for a Waikiki hotel room from 1 - 6 Oct 23. It was cancelled last week as Booking.com ALLOWED a scammer onto their site who advertised hotel rooms for a hotel that they had no affiliation with, allowed them to charged my credit card over 2k and Booking.com did not figure this out for 6 months later. Then, Booking.com would do nothing for me (this came from upper management) and no offer to find me an comparable room for the same price I paid. They offered me 50 euro and then 100 euro for their mistake...what a joke. Unbelievable as now the hotels in Waikiki are $700 + more than when I booked in last year.
Expedia upgrade my friend in San Juan last month to the Hilton hotel as the lower priced and lower star hotel advised there was no reservation for him once he got there, even though he can the confirmation from Expedia. Expedia cover the additional costs which is GREAT customer service. Shame on you Book.com as you do not value your customers. AGAIN all of this is 100 percent your mistake, what kind of background check do you actually do for hotels to advertise on your site?...obviously none. Reservation *******508.

I booked a flight with them today for $2887 and it went through. Next thing you know I get an email saying it didn't go through for that same price and they want me to pay $1260 extra for the exact same flight. That's $4147 for the flight that is being offered for $3000 directly with the flight carrier. Now I asked them for a refund and they said it would take them up to 5 days to refund the money…

I was looking for a vacation package from Canada and all the ay prices were showing in CAD. I went to pay page and moreover changed my flight time paying extra/ only after looking at my visa statement I saw that it is US. So basically you get CAD price and then when you want to check out you pay in US. In addition, the email had no notification about CAD or US dollars. I was calling customer service and after been two hours on the line with them I was told "so sorry, our hands are tight". Never ever using you again.

Not Reliable
April 29, 2023

The site is not reliable for 2 reasons which I personally experienced: (1) The pictures of the hotels are not accurate and do not look the same in person. My family & I had to cancel one hotel on the spot as it was way below our expectations; the Booking photos were very misleading. (2) The car rides (from the airport to the hotel) booked on Booking was a mess. Booking has 2nd/3rd parties connecting with them throughout the world for local rides to be booked. We clearly indicated the number of passengers (5) with Booking and paid for a ride that can accommodate such. When our ride got here, they were told by their company (the 2nd/3rd party in connection with Booking) that we only had 2 people. This happened TWICE (2 different Indonesian cities). Luckily for us, both times, the local drivers were very pleasant and willing to help and we managed to get a car that accommodated all 5 of us without having to pay extra as we told Booking the correct number of passengers. Both times, the 2nd/3rd party were advised we were a group of 2. It's obvious that the common denominator is Booking and the issue resides with them. Booking is not properly communicating to the 2nd/3rd parties the details & we (customers) are the ones that suffer. Another note to make is we highly recommend that you book a taxi at the destination and not through Booking. Not only is it a lot cheaper (50% less!), but there are so many different taxi services and locals were very friendly and helpful. Trust me, to save time and a big headache, AVOID BOOKING!
