I am writing from Australia.
I buy around 20-30 books a year from them, since 2015. Never had a problem, delivery usually takes 10-15 days. I am really surprised that some people had trouble with them.
I wouldn't say I am lucky, I bought hundreds of books from them and they have been consistent in their customer services.
Has purchased two book from them. Without any reason they sent only one although the second one was on stock as well. Back in the country I currently reside postal services are not able to deliver without the contact number being mentioned, which I specifically asked them to do. On the request the couldn't provide the tracking number as well as they simply didn't have it as they tried to explain which sounded bizarre. Anyway it's been more than a month since the item was sent and I don't know where is it, which postal service handles it and nobody has contacted me, obviously. Absolutely horrible.
Ordered two books, they were supposed to arrive whithin the same week but i only got one. When I contacted customer service they changed the order and only one of them appeared. Never got the other book nor a refund.
Customer support has agents that do not care about solving the problem at all! And if you buy online, this is the least a company has to provide. For a company to hire such terrible customer support is usually a problem with the owners and how the business is run. They put people in place that prevent actual communication and valuable help to clients! Book Depository only cares about one thing: getting our money and providing terrible support in case anything happens! This is the worst company I ever worked with!
Each customer support agent I talked to kept sending me the same message over and over, not even reading my questions or providing any help! They have a massive lack of value in their business! They don't even have the information they can't provide B2B invoices, only B2C during the purchase process and they do not take responsibility with those clients that had problems due to poor communication on their website!

I ordered back in April and after 2 and a half months of waiting they decided to cancel my order even though I never asked for it. (the estimated delivery was supposed to happen 2 months ago) They said that they cant get the items, than I checked their site and ALL of my stuff were in stock ready to ship within 4 business days. The problem is that their prices became almost double.
I wrote them 8 massages so far for compensation but they just sent back almost the same letter every time, they didn't really want to help. If you want good for yourself never order from them.
This will be a long review but I want to be fair.
I ordered 13 books for over $180 USD on 5/13/20. It was a UK import of the WoT series, I wanted all 15 books, but only 13 were in stock at Book Depository (BD) so I went in for all 13 and ordered the other 2 on eBay. Prices at BD were the cheapest I could find them online, cheaper than eBay even. The site was recommended to me by a trusted source, but I later learned that source hadn't bought from BD since 2017. After placing my order, my bank auto-texted me saying I had to confirm this was not a fraudulent purchase. This raised suspicions, as I order a lot of merch from around the world and my bank never intervenes. I got worried and started Googling reviews of the site which led me here. I read almost every review and was horrified at the stories of people getting inadequate service or outright feeling scammed. I immediately contacted my bank and told them I was concerned I had just made an overseas purchase that wouldn't be fulfilled, and they assured me they would assist with a charge back in the event I was scammed. I then saved all my correspondence with the bank and my email confirmations with BD and decided to wait and see.
The first thing that surprised me was that after a couple days, I received tracking numbers for all 13 books. This went against what I had read in recent reviews here. I wonder if BD decided to start tracking some or all orders due to all the issues they were causing in getting people their books. Hopefully management there has cracked down on their shipping process.
As of 06/01 I have received all 13 books. They came packaged separately, 13 form-fitting cardboard cases that each fit one book. That definitely increased the chances that they could've been lost or stolen, but it seems like I got lucky. Overall I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, as I got a hard-to-find import of my favorite series that would've cost me twice as much elsewhere. I hope that others start receiving their orders promptly and that BD has decided to try improving their reputation to where it used to be. Crossing my fingers for all my fellow overseas readers out there.
My order was delayed in arriving, I contacted the customer support and they very quick to get back to me and were very very helpful!
We ended up agreeing in doing a refund as all deliveries have been delayed during these difficult days and the refund was completed and confirmed within the same day!

I purchased two books for book depository, Ginny Moon and Girl, Missing. The two books arrived in excellent quality. They arrived a week after I bought them. The only thing is I bought the two books at the same time but the arrived on different days. I can honestly say I would buy off them again
Just got a delivery today from Book Depository. This is the fourth time I have ordered from them, and I have never had a problem.
I reside in Thailand and English titles can be limited. The main 2 book stores here (won't mention names) either never have what you are looking for, pre-orders can take over a month, or they never give discounts on books in English. I received this order almost 3 weeks to the day (UK-Thailand), keeping in mind that shipping may be slow due to Covid.
Customer service have always gotten back to my inquires within 24 hours or less, and have always been very professional.
I ordered a book on the 1st of April to the Republic of Ireland. The website said 4-6 days for delivery. It is now the 9th of May and the book still hasn't arrived! I have contacted them numerous times and was asked to wait a further 5-7 days on 2 occasions. On my latest correspondence, I was asked to reconfirm my shipping address and the name of the book I had ordered despite the order number going throughout the email thread. Wouldn't inspire confidence. Will not be using their service again.

Son unos estafadores, ladrones, basura de servicio.
I am still waiting for my order 6 weeks later. No real assistance from customer service. This is ridiculous! Never buying from Book Depository again. Sigh, you used to be a good company.
I wish that I had read up about the reviews of this company before I ordered a book with them. I placed an order on the 4th of February 2020. It is now the 5th of March and still no correspondence about when the book will arrive. I honestly think that I would've done better to order a 2nd hand book from ebay and have had better results than ordering with this company.
After waiting the 10 days for the order to arrive I accessed their 'anything but' order information Then I noticed that the entire order had been canceled without a word to me. When I wrote a rude response they gave me some B S about not satisfying their routine credit security check. I think that is a little strange since I used the same credit card and mailing address for a similar order last year. I don't think it gets any deeper than that. This is worthless company who does not deserve your business. Don't go here.
I ordered 4 text books on the 4th Dec 2019... still waiting on the 14 Jan 2020! No tracking details provided after order. Answers like "have you checked your local sorting office" Really? My daughter is now at university without any books for the year. Great business model, "BookDepository"... take the money and do nothing. I wish I read these review posts before ordering! Be warned, STAY AWAY!
To all my fellow South Africans, PLEASE DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY! If they had a negative rating option, I would give book depository a negative (-) five stars. I ordered a textbook one and half months ago, and I'm still waiting. My mom ordered 4 textbooks from book depository and it took her TWO MONTHS for her to get her order. Furthermore, she had to pay an extra R486 in VAT. NEVER AGAIN!
I have an emergency request to my friend to buy me a book for my MDiv program and he did it and give as a gift. But one of the 2 books was not the one I prefer. I prefer a hardcover version of the book but my friend took paperback. I want to return and exchange it with the version (hardcover) I desire but I struggled. Not like amazon, it's so easy to return and get what you desire without making any disturbance to the one who is giving a gift to you. Will make sure to tell my friends in the future, amazon is better I can exchange the book easily. Anyways an experience that I learn and will keep me reminded always. It was my first time and honestly it's a bad experience.
I will urge anyone considering using the site to completely avoid it - you simply risk receiving a completely different book than the one you have ordered after which YOU have to pay the return of the book, which in most cases will be close to the price of the book itself.
I ordered a book on the 25th of November and received it last Friday, 13th of December. After seeing that the book is completely different from the one shown on the website and included in my order confirmation, I contacted Book Depository who finally agreed to reimburse me for the book if I send it back to them, but they refuse to pay for the shipment back, which makes the whole reimbursement pointless as that means that I will effectively not receive any money back. This is simply a matter of misleading customers.
One thing is sending a completely different item than the one ordered, but another is to subsequently refuse to properly reimburse the customer.
This is simply an appalling and miserable way of "driving a business".
They don't care about the customers and no sincerity. They list the items on their online catalog even though they don't have any stock/don't know when they would get the stock.
Answer: Honestly, no idea, seems like their staff are very untrustworthy I had problems with them before I even ordered something, because they would keep changing what they told me about stock on a book, I wouldnt trust these liars with valuable information like your personal card (have ordered it in the end, but never arrived, they lied about the stock apparently and its gonna be a much longer wait, regretting buying it from here)
Answer: I always pay with a credit card and I never had any issue whatsoever.
Answer: Honestly, no idea. I also have them but I fill them again (I don't put my credit card info because I don't want to, and the address it's just filled in because Google remembers it).
