Is too late as I write this review my books is been delay for 3 weeks and first few emails was ask me to be patient with the shipping even it is 2 weeks delay. I was suppose to read the books while having my vacation, after my vacation it has been 2 weeks and it is no where to know where my books are.
Now I am into third week and latest email came in to say that there was no stock and the waiting time is indefinite. WTF. Regret should have read up this review before buying and now there as no refund. If anyone out there who wish to buy books go to the real retail book store, dont ever ever buy online scam.
I ordered approx 13 books on 6 December and paid via PayPal. I then received a message from the Book Depository claiming there was an issue with my PayPal payment? They cancelled my order without even bothering to contact me before doing so. When I checked my bank and PayPal account the money has been paid to Book Depository and no refund has been received in either account. I have therefore paid for 13 books which I have not received and when I contacted customer services at Book Depository I was basically fobbed off. I have raised a complaint with PayPal about this company.
In the last years, I successfully bought at least 4 books at Book Depository. The experience were mixed.
I never fond of how bookdepository doesn't include any tracking code on every order, which gives me low expectation on the promised delivery day, and makes every purchase felt like a gamble.
But, it is still a blessing for me, because most of online bookstore doesn't deliver to my Country, Indonesia, or if there was one, the shipping cost is so expensive it cost more than the book, while Book Depository do deliver to Indonesia at no cost. For the books themselves most of them arrived in a very good condition, and the other one was cancelled (and refunded). And right now I've tried their pre-order service and still waiting for it to come in the middle of next year. Finger crossed, right?
Ordered 11 books at the end of August.
Got 4 in total (that too with huge delays between them).
Been waiting for my 7 books for a long time. Until they decided to send me replacements.
But those too didn't arrive. Managed to get a refund in the end.
All in all, 14 books never reached me.
Avoid at all cost if shipping internationally.
Neither they have sent my book nor they have refunded the payment. It is nothing but defrauding people.
I was allowed to order a book that was not in stock. Their customer care department failed to notify me, I would have just paid them $53 For nothing, I ended up having to contact them. Don't buy from here as you may never get your item
Order did not arrive after 2 months and customer service just replied it's been dispatched.
No tracking number, no delivery vendor provided to track. Ridiculous company! Stay away and don't order from them, it's not worth it
I placed a pre-order on the website a week before the item was due to be published. Two months later from the publication date and I have still not received my order.
When I contacted them a month after it was supposed to be delivered, they informed me that they were awaiting stock before they could fulfil my order.
It's frustrating as a customer to place a pre-order for an item and have the company inform you that they oversold their stock. There was no prior information when I was purchasing my items, warning me that there was a possibility that they could be sent at a later date.
If you don't have the product, then do not sell it.
A pre-order suggests that you will receive the product when it is released and gives you a guarantee that you will get the product before it hits the shelves of other stores.
I have wasted my time and money and should have gone through a different company.
Same thing as many, order a book that never arrived, they said they will send them back but never arrived, two months of emails asking for a refund but nothing happened. Total scam
I will not order from Book Depository again. It does feel like a scam, since the books I've ordered and paid for on Aug 8 have yet to arrive. However it is marked in their site as "dispatched". I sent an email to refute the status as I never received any books, neither did I receive any notifications that books have been sent my way. I received an email saying they will "resend" the books within 7 - 10 business days. It's now been 15 days. Meaning, more than 2 months since my orders have been placed. Have not received any books. Do not trust this site. The cheap pricing isn't worth it as they are not honorable neither are they trustworthy.
I won't sugar coat this the place is a scam after X number of "business days" still haven't received a measly 3 items sounded weird from the beginning:
1. Order was split into two sections.
2. They had to deal with a "third party" who was willing to work with them.
3. There's no way to trace any purchase.
4. So many conversations over a small order never heard anything like it.
5. After a lengthy muck around I'm now awaiting a refund that has "processed" excuse me if i don't believe a word of what this company says after seeing all the reviews "across different websites".
I've contacted the British Authorities it would appear this company is doing it to everyone well the curtains are coming down ill shut these buggers down don't care about the 51.83 ill burn you guys down to protect others.
Beware of "free delivery"... you will get slapped with unknown taxes upon delivery which do not show up on your order purchase when confirming. Customer service extremely poor as well. Many reputable companies to choose from, this is not one. Never again!
It's been a more then a month yet to receive my books. I've contacted the customer service via email they did reply few times but no action after that. It's ridiculous to know that the shipping is taking more than 2 weeks or months in this era where everything has been technologize and digitallized. Usually this type of shipping wouldn't take more than a week.
Is it a scam?
My opinion, based on my experience (2 purchases which never arrived) - they send out books to selected customers, so that they get a few good reviews and stay afloat, but the majority of customers pay for books which they never receive.
Everyone seems to go through the same steps:
FIRST - they don't provide a tracking number - believe it or not! Even the cheapest Chinese suppliers on ebay provide tracking numbers.
SECOND - their customer service tells you to "look for your delivery at your local post office". What?
THIRD - After that they refuse to reply.
Don't know what country they operate from, but these guys should not be allowed to operate this scam - seems that have been at it for years!.
Ordered a month ago. Never arrived. Contacted their customer service and had no response. Scam company. Never ever use. I am seriously mad at them. Incase I haven't made my point across, plain terrible
This company just creates problems and then denies them and creates more and admits them but doesn't fix anything. Utterly ridiculous and the poorest customer service I have ever experienced. Please get some customer service training for your staff!
Ordered a book one month ago. Still waiting. Got in touch with Customer service. They did absolutely nothing to resolve the situation, Wouldn't answer any of my questions they simply dodged them. All of this going on whilst still advertising the same book as available and ready to be dispatched.
Absolutely useless and terrible service, i personally will not be using the book depository service again it was that bad

I have made pre-order of The Recipe book in April and it was stating on website at that time that book will be published in 19 days. I have cross checked with Customer Service team in June about the order and was informed that book has not been published yet and I have to wait or I can cancel the request.
At that time, I have explained that I have left the country I was residing in and the card is no longer valid. I have checked if there is any possibility to swap the titles but it was not possible.
I have decided to wait as there was no other option for me.
Only few days back (4 months later) I was notified that book is ready and it will be dispatched soon from your warehouse. In the same email it was mentioned that in case if the shipping address changed - I should contact Customer Service.
As the reply to the email, I have inquired if it possible to change shipping from Oman to Ukraine and particularly stated to let me know.
Next email I received was informing me that my order was cancelled and refund has been processed on my credit card.
It is extremely disappointing that Book Depository has taken a liberty to cancel the order which I was patiently waiting for 4 months without asking me. In fact, the original address could have been still used as my boyfriend still would have gotten the book but i thought that maybe I can get it first.
Book Depository is suggesting me to go to the bank to claim my refund after I have mentioned them on several times that I have left Qatar and no longer is resident there so it is impossible for me to claim it back!
This is the worst customer handling I have met in my life.
It is surprising that company has not been sued under consumer rights act yet
Ordered books like a month ago and it was supposed to be shipped from the UK to Malaysia. How is it in this day and age that a parcel can be sent without a tracking number? Really? Post 9/11? Total scam site!
I had received the books after a month plus, with normal post. Very new copy and good condition.
It was totally fine for me as I am not in a rush to read them, as well as the price is very worth if compare to other online portal and retail price. Definitely will look for book from them again^^

Answer: Honestly, no idea, seems like their staff are very untrustworthy I had problems with them before I even ordered something, because they would keep changing what they told me about stock on a book, I wouldnt trust these liars with valuable information like your personal card (have ordered it in the end, but never arrived, they lied about the stock apparently and its gonna be a much longer wait, regretting buying it from here)
Answer: I always pay with a credit card and I never had any issue whatsoever.
Answer: Honestly, no idea. I also have them but I fill them again (I don't put my credit card info because I don't want to, and the address it's just filled in because Google remembers it).
