All books are supposed to be charged at one credit per book. However, when I checked out earlier today, I had three credits, bought two books, and it showed that I had 0 credits.
I called customer service to complain, and they told me that obviously there had been a glitch in the system because I should have only had two credits. I have kept track of my credits carefully, so I knew this was not the case. The woman told me to look at my order history and membership history to see that she was correct.
I looked at them, found I had paid for 8 credits and only used 7 on books. She still insisted there was an error and that the right number of credits had been recorded. So I essentially spent $15 and waited a month for no reason.
I signed up for Audible's 30 day free trial. All was well, but I forgot to cancel, which I admit is my mistake, but what happened next is ridiculous.
I cancelled 1 day in to my paid membership after the free trail for $14.95 which I was charged. When I cancelled I realized I had 1 free credit and did not use it hoping for a refund as I no longer wanted to use the service. I then went in to the customer service chat to see what could be done.
I told the customer service rep that I understood I did not cancel in time, but if I cannot have a refund, I would at least like the free credit reinstated. I was told that could not be done as I cancelled the membership. I repeatedly asked the rep what exactly I was paying for if the first month was free, I paid for the 2nd month and now I have no membership benefits or the free credit. The only answer they could give was that I paid for my gold membership of $14.95 and had cancelled it.
I then asked the customer service rep how that makes sense? What if I would have used the free credit and then cancelled my membership, wouldn't I have a free book and still be charged $14.95? The rep replied yes. I then asked how it makes sense that I cancelled without using the credit that I am now left with no book or membership charges despite being charged. Same answer.
Throughout this conversation I asked multiple times what I was paying for if 2 days in to the month I now have no credit or benefits.
At this point the rep offered to reinstate my membership and restore the credit which sounded great as I had been charged for the current month. However, then he proceeded to tell me it'd be an extra $7.49, but I'd have 2 credits!
Most membership sites if you cancel after the renewal you will charged, but you still have benefits for the month you paid for til the next renewal period. Apparently not at Audible. If you cancel you only hurt yourself. Use the free credit and then cancel. Get as much as you can out of them.
I understand they are trying to make money offering free books with a 1 month trial, but if the trial isn't making money maybe they should discontinue it. Shady business practices is certainly not the way to make up for the losses.
For years I purchased books for 5 family members each with two devices. As an extremely active customer we enjoyed sharing our books & listening on our phones, I pads & computers depending on the time of day, as we would with any paper book. We just upgraded our devices, asked to discontinue some broken or missing devices & activate their replacements. No more no less.
We were told NO. We can only have three droids 3 Appkes. We had 10 total before. I purchased books on good faith that all five of my family members. Now two are denied access.
This is fraud
This is dishonest
This is Amazon eating another good ompany!
I have been purchasing audio books from Audible for a number of years now and find their selection great and their customer service outstanding. Whenever I've written to them about something, and yes, they actually have an email contact us, which is getting harder and harder to find on sites, they have replied to me by the next business day. And now, they're even better because, if you don't like a book you've purchased from them, you can actually return it and they will allow you to exchange it for another book. This is a great site.
Offered a free download if joined and wanted card details. Closed account within the 30 days and was still charged. Contacted Customer services twice and heard nothing from them and no refund.
Had problems downloading a certain book. Called several times, they all promised they would get back but they never did!
I drive so much and listening to books is the best way to get through those long hours. Audible is exactly what you want as a customer. Customer reviews along with critic reviews. Free downloadable App with great options like adjusting narrator speed.
Awesome pricing plan. I pay $7.49, and each month I earn a credit to use on any book I want. I'm basically getting $30 books for $7 and change.
Don't be fooled by their promotion. Read the fine print. Once you sign up with these guys. They will charge you 14.99/month. Starting up was a little confusing, but the customer service were very helpful.
I have been a member of Audible for a while. First joined them after heading a promo about a trial they provided - 2 Audio books for free with no obligations and or charges to your account. I got the book I wanted and had no problem canceling my subscription before the trial period was over. Few months later I found out about a promotion of theirs that allowed you to subscribe for a month and get a $15 coupon for free. I did that - and when I get the coupon I picked some good books ( the site has many excellent titles) - paid a bit extra, but found out that they had changed their policy and instead of clinking a link to cancel your subscription one was supposed to call them. However when I called them they were very polite and I had no problems canceling my subscription. Currently I am checking for another promotions they may have which I could take advantage of.
I was desperate to find an audio copy of Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything and didn't want to take the risk of downloading it from one of the many sites that are likely to be scams. So I decided to try Audible.com. With the "free 30-day trial", the $40 book would be free, and that I believe. However, when I discovered I would have to download an Audible manager and that would be the only way to listen to the book on my computer, I decided to bust out of that popsicle stand. To their credit, I was able to cancel my subscription easily. It should also be noted that there are other ways to listen to, on your phone, IPOD, etc., but as well, you have to download special audible software.
